3 stars for the prices… that is ALL. Food was meh. Cali burrito(although it’s 5 bucks and some change) literally had cold fries + meat which = supeeeeeeer dryyyy!!! Carne asada fries were cool I guess but I’ve really had a lot better(El CILANTRO’S is on point). Probably will come back because my husband is a super cheapo pants BUUUUT good people of SD, I assure you it whilst be veryyy reluctant. And that is all.

Had to drive all the way back because they got my order wrong. I told the guy it was wrong when he read the order back to me, and it still came out wrong after I corrected him. Sad

As much as I enjoy the food here and have been a frequent customer at this location I think today is the day I will search for a new Taco Shop, especially since there are hundreds to choose from in SD. My Grandmother and I came here for some grub and she was in the mood for a Machaca Torta. My grandmother being allergic to avocado asked the cashier(some girl) what was inside the Torta as she did not want any guac. The girl told her not to worry but the Machaca Torta didn’t come with any guacamole. When our order was ready my grandmother asked if the cook could please cut the torta in half as it would be easier to eat. They do and my grandmother sits and takes her first bite. There was not only guac, but a huge amount of it. She gets up and goes back to the counter and lets the cashier know and if she could get it replaced since she never asked for guac. The cashier made this disgusting UGLY annoyed face. Like if it was my grandmothers fault there was guacamole in her torta. She turns to the cook and updates the order. Instead of being professional and doing this without any hassle the cook proceeds to bad mouth my grandmother as if she was the cook and made the torta, or as if she was the cashier who made the mistake and added extra guac. By the way he said everything loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear. The new Torta arrived without guac but instead of Machaca he gives her Carne Asada. Why are all these incompetent people working here? Very disappointed. This cook needs to apologize and so does this cashier.

I have been coming here for over 20 years. Almost every time I come home to Chula Vista a stop at Roberto’s is required. I have NEVER had bad food here, EVER. Some of the people in the dining room late at night look really shifty, but I have never actually seen a problem there, and I have been going for a really long time. My favorites here are the carne asada burrito, machaca burrito, rolled tacos, and carne asada fries. Given the choice between Roberto’s and any other restaurant in the area of any kind Roberto’s will always win in my opinion, no contest.

San Diego is renowned for our taco shops, we may have the best mexican food this side of the boarder and while shops like Roberto’s are all too common there are a few reasons why this shop deserves a 5 star review. It is a good San Diego 24 hour taco shop with all of San Diego’s signature favorites on the menu like the Surf n Turf, roll tacos, or the California burrito. But one doesn’t have to look too far in San Diego to find one of these gems and locals all have there favorite places we’ll drive across town to get too. But if you are new to San Diego it’s a good place to get your feet wet. The hot sauce here is divine and and has three flavors light red(mild and garlicky) green(medium sweet) dark red(hot and blunt) they are all delicious. Lastly the perfect carne asada is a matter of extreme debate on one side they say it should be wet, in fact the wetter the better, drenched in it’s own greases to the point of it being more of a drink wrapped in a tortilla than a solid food. On the other side they feel the meat should be flavorful but cooked lean and the greases drained and the burrito dry and not messy. Roberto’s is a good in between place for carne asada beginners. in time you WILL become more decisive and lean one way or the other but as for me I can always appreciate good old roberto’s, right in the middle, And that hot sauce!

This place was better than it is now… I don’t know if it’s a new cook or what? I go for the combination #1 the 2 beef tacos with rice and beans. The tacos are supposed to be crunchy but even when I ask for them«EXTRACRUNCHY!» They are to tough to bite into and no crunch, with the thickest tortilla in the world… How they manage to cook the inside meat to dry jerky is totally unnatural… Please go back to the way you used to cook food!

Worst place to eat at They are super cheap with the meat, guacamole, and any kind of topping ! The only worth thing going for are the carne asada fries, hands down best but theat rest of the food sucks, my quesadilla had no cheese and slightly any meat the tortilla Rey use require more than what they add

4 ½ Stars! We come here often and not just because it’s 24 hrs. We like the breakfast burritos, carne asada quesadilla or fries, bean & cheese burrito, and rolled tacos! Their lighter red salsa is pretty good too. My boyfriend would prefer to come here instead of Lolitas that he considers too«americanized.» Love that this is a drive-thru joint! Customer service isn’t anything special but not rude either. Their speaker needs an upgrade! But overall, we’ve never waited long for our order or had any mix ups. Order the carne asada fries and quesadillas on the side to make your own burritos! Bomb!(:

Went on a Monday night about 8pm… Ordered the chicken burrito wasn’t really impressed. My friends both ordered plates those looked better but I can’t say because I didn’t try it. Not too sure where the bathrooms were — didn’t see any inside, I’m guessing they’re outside? Probably not coming back here.

Super crunchy rolled tacos! I like the simple just cheese and that it’s easy to hold when you have only one hand free. My foot place when tacos el Gordo has the longest line ever.

Really sad to see the decline of this Robertos. Used to go here after high school football games and sobering up from TJ. Carne asada us inedible and rolled tacos look like they picked up from a Costco. Señor Robledo is turning in his grave. Sadly the drive thru is busy but inside traffic is non existent.

Decent taco shop. Better places to order from. This is maybe 0.75−1.00 cheaper than other places, but not worth it, because you have to pay for guac+cream+cheese in burritos that would normally come with it in other places. E.g., Roberto’s Carne Asada burrito is $ 5.50, but it only has carne, Pico de Gallo, and a trace amount of guac. Plus, the burrito is sort of small. A carne Asada burrito at another taco shop might be over $ 6, but at least the size is big and comes with everything a carne asada burrito should. You basically have to build your burritos, meaning they charge you extra for guacamole, cream, cheese, etc. Go somewhere else if you can. P.s. I’ve been here multiple times, and on all occasions, the food has only been adequate. The tortillas are dry and disappointing.

Bomb, don’t know what else to say but to look at my photos. Got one pork taco each and shared the carne Asada fries. Each also one $ 1.50 horchata. Doesn’t come with ice, but that’s cool. It was great.

I know these are all over the place, but you can do better. It was after 10p so my choices were getting limited so I said why the hell not. I went for the the asada, egg and cheese breakfast burrito. Got the burrito in just a few minutes. It was much smaller than the traditional SD burrito size. The asada was not very flavorful and there was much less of it than expected. The burrito was mostly triple folded tortilla and egg. There is no salsa bar, only two sauces in those those classy diner squeeze bottles. On the plus side, they are open 24 hours, there is a drive through and parking. Overall, when if I was hankering for some food at 4am, I’d might consider coming back… otherwise do yourself a favor and hit Colima’s on University. Stay sexy fellow Unilocalers!

Roberto’s is one of the most famous taco chains in San Diego. Open late, not too busy, nice, fast service and great prices. Salsa bar, which is always a plus. Still, just not a fan. I have tried several of their locations now, just because they seem to always pop up where ever I am in SD, but nothing has ever stood out as needing to have again. I have had the tacos and burritos, tried all of their meats and none are that stellar. Nothing bad, just not worth going out of the way for.

My coworker has been raving about this place for quite a while, so when it was lunch time down in the Chula Vista area for us, of course he wanted to drag me here for some taco Tuesday. This Roberto’s restaurant is apart of the original ‘legit’ chain of Roberto’s that started down in San Ysidro back in the late 60s. It was Tuesday and this place did not disappoint with their tacos. I first tried to order their pollo asado tacos and the guy told me that they did not have pollo asado here. Why oh why wouldn’t a San Diego taco shop joint not have chicken? Anyway, I gave into the carne asada ones, the Tuesday special was about 7 bucks and change for two tacos, beans, rice and a soda. I don’t drink soda, so I declined it and opted for a water instead. The taco plate( ) came with two large carne asada tacos with one corn tortilla, guac, a bit of cheese and pico de gallo. The rice and beans were pretty decent, they definitely tasted good like they threw some seasoning in there. I just wish the beans were not so runny, I don’t care for that texture of beans so much. The tacos were great, fresh tasting tortillas and pico de gallo. The guacamole had great texture and tasted good I just wish they added a bit more. The meat here is awesome stuff, the cuts of beef were diced into smaller pieces which made it great for taco meat. The asada was seasoned and cooked well. My favorite thing here was the hot sauce they provided us in a squeeze bottle for our table. This stuff was great, and had a lot of spicy kick to it. I threw that stuff all over my food. Its too bad they only gave one for our table, I kinda took it all from my coworker. I really enjoy taco shops that take the time to make quality hot sauce, it really helps set them apart from the other shops in SD. The downfall to Roberto’s here is their limited small menu, other taco shops seem to offer a more of variety of foods, along with offering pollo asado and not just beef. I did enjoy my tacos here very well and the food was okay, but it wasn’t «great». The only reason this place is getting 4 stars is cause their hot sauce is damn good.
