After seeing a picture of their Caldo de Pollo soup from a fellow Unilocaler i was dying to try it! There is plenty of parking in their private lot and it is located right on the corner of Anita and Broadway. I went up and ordered my Caldo de Pollo soup and the lady who took my order Jazmine was very nice. I told her i was just dying to try the soup. It came with flour or corn tortillas. She handed me a small plate and said i was welcome to the salsa bar. I went over to the salsa bar and got some lime and cliantro. They had a lot of selection at the salsa bar and it was well stocked. I sat down and the place was very clean and decorated nicely. There were plenty of tables and seating. A lot of bright warm colors and fall décor. She brought over my meal and i received a nice BIG bowl of soup with tortillas and small cup of rice. I did have to put in just a little bit of effort and take out the chicken, potatos and the vegetables and cut it up for easier eating. The soup was very delicious. It had a nice chicken flavor and was very savory. The vegetables were very tasty as well. It was definetly what i was craving for. The reason why i didnt give a full five star review was just for the price and quality. Dont get me wrong, it was very delicious, but it was pretty simple. It was $ 8.15 and I thought that was a tad bit overpriced for what i ordered. I will definetly return and would love to try the Caldo de Res next!

Sooo still being my spot for caldos. My daughter wanted the c. Asada chips which were hella bomb cuz most places dont use nacho chz but dam… ssssshhhiiieeesssty!!! I sware these were the sadest chips i have ever seen $ 8.99 for like 12 chips with a pinch of carne asada, spoon full of sour cream and the same with the guac. very disappointing:(i was upset because the food was on point but not hooked up. Idk if it was because it was a busy Sunday morning or if produce is just to. high right now lol. Next time i go please… HHOOOKKKKMMMEEEUPPPTHOO!

This place is one of my favorite little«hole in the wall» restaurants. Meaning it’s kind of hidden in south Chula Vista off of Broadway. About 98% of the items I’ve tried are really good. The Caldo De Res is so freaking good! Huge bowl and freshly made. The tortillas are insanely huge and I love them! The huevos rancheros could use a little work. Less veggies on them please. There is a decent amount of seating and there is no lound music playing here like in some of the other spots around town. Customers service is ok, though I would prefer a smile now and then to show appreciation. They are NOT rude, just a little blah on the customer service. Overall I really enjoy this place. My family tries to come here at least once a month or more(3 times this month so far). Enjoy!

The cooks do a really great job at cooking. The food tastes fresh and has a decent taste. What makes me not want to come eat here often is the depressing mood of the order takers. The two ladies handling the front of the table have no emotion on their faces. It almost seems like they are emotionally dead. Horrible costumer service, but delicious food.

The food has no flavor whats so ever. The salsa was very watered down. The lemons were very dry. The chiles were over ripe. The silverware was dirty. The salsa bar section was disgustingly dirty. Salsa onions and other stuff spilled all over the salsas. Salsa spilled every where. The ladle handles were very greasy feeling. This place does not clean at all. The Kitchen prep area looked dirty condiments spilled all over. They charge for the chips(usually free every other Mexican food spot). Cashier was very rude. This place wont get a return visit.

Food, depending on what you get, some options might be better than others. Carne asada fries sucked(they were just thrown on a plate basically and had no taste at all). The asada quesadilla just had meat inside, no sour cream… nothing. My family seems to have enjoyed the Menudo and the tacos. So I guess not ALL options suck? Their CUSTOMERSERVICE. does suck. I went in there yesterday asking for a Lemon Water and before i could finish, the cashier responded«we don’t have change»… She didn’t seem to care to make any accommodations. NOTHING. She was a complete b***. I guess my 2 $ is not big enough and not worth their business… STAYAWAY if you have other options.

Great Tj style tacos. After the 3rd one I was done. Full and filled with yummy goodness. The al pastor and carne asada are delicious! Not to mention the Agua de limon. I’d so come back here.

Awesome food at this Chula Vista staple! The California burrito is the best around as are most of their dishes. I’ve been eating here for almost 20 years back since they called it Rafa’s. Great service too!

the menudo is instant hang over cure-feel a cold coming on? Order some Caldo de pollo for a quick fix. Its taco shop nothing fancy or gourmet, just good down home Mexican comfort food.

Not impressed and was completely disappointed with the food served and the rude customer service. I ordered the grilled fish plate with rice and beans and even though the rice and beans tasted okay, the fish was cooked with scrambled eggs and tasted like ass in my mouth. Yuck the phucc out. They also added a plate of salad on my fish combo plate but it was also gross with too much creamy salad dressing which I was unable to finish. I only finished my 2 pieces of fish because I could not live to see it thrown away in the trash wasted. It was an awful flavor that left the most disgusting flavor in my mouth and made me want to think of vomiting until I was able to chew a piece of gum and make it go away. They also took over 15 minutes for my plate of food to be ready yet several people and orders after me came and went for both customers to go and customers eating inside. No intentions of ever eating from Plazas again because they are a real low class taco shop. LACOMIDADEBUSURA O STARS and I have never said those words on Unilocal before.

/sigh/so i haven’t been here in years and i remember loving the carne asada tacos and always begging my mom to bring us here. When i went in today it was not the same. The place was a mess booths were sticky high chairs had layer of gunk on them the place smelled like bathroom it was gross. We ordered the carne asada tacos and a quesadilla. The Tacos were good I’d give them three stars. I didn’t get any fat in the meat and the salsa was really good. The service sucked, cashier couldn’t even hand me my cash back. And when i payed for a refill she asked me to hold on and then she went to the back while on the phone and finally came and refilled my horchata not even to the top put it down on the counter so rudely and walked away. Never got a welcome, thank you, enjoy your day, nothing from her. She pretty much made my decision for this and I’ll never go back.

This place was recommended to me by some friends. I manage 2 fast service restaurants, one of them is a Mexican one, so I was paying close attention to all the operation, of course. The place is ok, it might need a deeper cleaning overall to make it look better, that’s what I would do if I managed this one. Specially the restrooms needed some help, but overall. I ordered menudo, they have red or white. The flavor was fine, but it wasn’t hot enough. If they had the menudo in a steam table, it should have been at 135 F degrees(by law), this one wasn’t, I know temperatures. If they heat up every menudo to order, which I doubt, they didn’t let it boil to 165 F degrees as they should have(By law) This one was barely 100 F degrees, which is a very dangerous zone, bacterias are happily reproducing fast, it wasn’t steaming. I also ordered a Chile relleno. The batter and the sauce was fine, no problem there, but it didn’t have enough cheese inside the chile relleno. It had just a little white sticking to the chile in some walls, but you couldn’t see a single chunk of it. Disappointed with the chile relleno and I love them, I grew up in the City of Puebla, Mexico, notorious for Chile rellenos, so I know them. I might come back for a second try but will order something else. Their prices are pretty good.

Went here for a quick lunch and was a pretty good place. They only have 2 salsa selections but they are both really good. They have a small salsa bar with items on it that are fresh. I just wish that people would not use the other spoons on the salsa bar for the cilantro. Not every one likes cilantro people! The fish burrito was unfortunately fried. Which [while delicious] I would actually prefer grilled. All in all it was a good place and I will go back when I am in the area.

This review is for the menudo rojo and the chilaquiles, both have been consistently awesome the 10+ years I’ve been coming here. They also sell menudo every day of the week now, which is great because Wednesday’s deserve menudo, too! The menudo rojo is always fresh, hot, and full of flavor. They also offer menudo blanco, if your taste buds prefer. Different regions in Mexico tend to make it one way or another, and it’s great that they have the option. I prefer the rojo, because that’s all I was raised on. Each bowl of menudo is served with a bundle of tortillas. Your choice of tortillas de harina(flour) or tortillas de maiz(corn). No, the tortillas are not homemade, but that would be awesome if they were. As a menudo enthusiast, you will appreciate how well the menudo is prepared and cleaned. No stringy fat, no bad flavors or smell. The hominy to menudo ratio is usually spot on, and I never leave hungry. I’ve brought all my family and wife’s family here, and they all agree. The menudo is fucking delicious!
