I loved this store, I was lucky enough to purchase many great books while pregnant. I bought books on parenting, baby subjects, just books about everything on that genre. I went this last weekend to see what was new, to buy some books & read now that I have time to while baby naps. I discovered that this store is now C L O S E D!!! No fair, it was the new cool place in that sad, abandoned mall.

All I can say is that I went here to kill time while in Chula Vista on business, and needless to say, I ended up having to buy a new backpack to cart my purchases home! Excellent selection, wonderful staff. Will come back when I return to CV!

Before I go along writing my anecdote, I’d like to say that this tiny bookstore is, wow, a book lover’s dream come true, and it’s NOT recommended for those«judging a book by its cover» snobs xP… Really, I’m walking around Chula Vista Center mall to enjoy eye candy when it comes to seeing fabulous apparel displayed behind glass windows. Then the yellow-colored wording, «$ 1 Dollar Bookstore» immediately caught my attention, & I was ecstatically curious knowing what’s in store. Holey moley, EVERYTHING is really $ 1, from classics, to textbooks, to NY Times Bestsellers, to novels both old AND newly published, every freakin’ genre, you name it! Well actually, 0.01% of the stock costs at a range from $ 2-$ 5, but they’re all hanging out at the very bottom section across the cashier haha. Why it’s $ 1 is because some kindly folks donated tons and tons and tons of USED books, plus the inside of the store is dreadfully mundane while the books are only categorized by genre – so better expect alphabetical disorganization. So if you prefer owning new & pristine covers, don’t bother checking here & just pay the original retail value at B&N or Borders x]. So after spending almost an hour inside I got $ 9.79 worth of them(I included tax, btw), & they ranged from $ 5-$ 35 per book if you get them in original retail price. Hands up for huge savings, man! And what I got, you might wonder: some novels(½ of them NY Times Bestsellers), inspirational and psychological books, and medical stuff =). Oh, and my bags were as heavy as carrying 2 gallons of milk I had to immediately load them in my car, which was fortunately parked close to the store, before strolling all-around the mall for the rest of my day. I asked the kind worker if there were any other stores like this, and from what she’s aware, there are only 2 in L.A. and this [hidden gem] is the only one in S.D. Not only that, a customer asked when did this open, and worker replied, «7 months.» Dang, this is indeed worth more than 5 stars. I can’t believe there was hidden treasure located in Chula Vista Center, of all places, and inadvertently I found the X Mark.

So I walk into the Chula Vista Mall for the first time and notice a $ 1 Dollar Book Store so I had to check it out. I asked the guy at the counter, «Are all books really a dollar?»(hard to believe) and he said«All of them except for the ones you steal!» How can you not love a store where everything is only a dollar and they have a character like that running the register!
