Mary’s Downtown Plaza

The Chula Juana sandwich is really good here, as well as the Italian torpedo. Friendly staff and pretty decent prices are only some of the reasons that I keep coming back here.

Just stopped in for lunch; roast beef sandwich was great (could only eat half). However, the BASIL LEMONADE was absolutely fantastic; refreshing, light, just perfect! Thank you.

We’re having lunch, ordered philly cheese (bell peppers, onions, pepper jack cheese, plenty of sliced beef steak) and chula juana (avocado, onions, queso fresco, plenty of roast beef, and a fresh chipotle sauce like home made.)
The place is vintage style, relaxed environmet.
The sandwiches were delicious. We’re definitely coming back to this place.

Mary’s offers such a good quality sandwich and salad when you need one. I’ve found myself going on a lunch break longing for their veggie panini with Greek salad.
I believe soups are also on their menu and often get switched around but it seems those are out pretty quickly.
Most recently this place is closed «temporarily» and I really hope it is temporary. With so many fast food places in the area it’s nice to find a nice café with all the basics.
The neat thing about Mary’s is they also prepare coffee drinks (big plus), separate from food items. Usually I ask for my drink and sip on that while I wait for the food.
If you’re in a hurry or don’t want to wait for about 15 – 20 minutes I would order ahead just because this place makes sandwiches to order and they can get pretty busy, at least during lunch hours.

Came in with the wifey and had the T. Bird sandwich, BOMB! Mixed berry smoothie was great. Place has a café, ice cream, and a deli! Will come back.

I had one of their Hot Turkey Sandwiches today and I must say it was not only fantastic looking but tasted like the Sandwich Gods mad it themselves, Bravo Mary! I will be back, It’s good to see people working hard at providing a quality product again.

Very neat place to eat! It’s clean and super friendly! Food is fresh and tasty, I get the T bird sandwich or the Greek salad! Right in the heart of Chula! Everything is nearby!

Drop plenty of change in the meter! Only 10 – 12 people in the entire restaurant but it took over 20 minutes to receive my sandwich order. I got what was billed as a Pizza Panini which looked like it was heated in a panini press but made with sliced sourdough bread. It was OK at best. Dining Room lacks any ambiance. On the bright side the staff was friendly. Might give them another chance based on the staff and other reviews and hope they can turn an order in a reasonable time. Lucky that I wasn’t pressed for time today.

This is definition of average. The food is good but nothing head turning. Always get a sandwich that’s a bit too small for price with a good enough smoothie. Also it smells like a barn or hamster cage but I guess they’re going for that. Also if your daddy’s little fatty the ice cream is a must, don’t get a double scoop though unless your life is a Donald duck cartoon in that I mean you will have a sad time get a damn bowl

What a great place! Was passing through Chula Vista today with two hungry kids and happened upon Mary’s. I blindly ordered «turkey sandwich» and rather than just slapping one together, the guy behind the counter took the time to delve into the various «turkey sandwich» options they offer, even suggesting one that might work best for my kiddos. I went with his suggestion but opted against the special molasses bread, not sure if my kids would like it.
A bit later they brought out the sandwich, carefully split into 3 portions on 3 separate plates for us to all share. What a bonus! Then the lady making the sandwiches came out with little pieces of the molasses bread for the kids to sample– sure enough, they loved it! Though even with the regular wheat bread my kids ate every bite– yum.
After lunch we ordered a smoothie and I let my 6 year old place the order. The lady working the smoothie counter was so sweet with her, patiently letting her order and then encouraging the kids to watch and see how it was made. And of course it was delicious.
On top of the fabulous service and food, everything was very reasonably priced, and the décor was cute and fun. Although we’re hardly ever in the area, next time we are there’s no doubt where we’ll go to eat!

Hands-​down these are best sandwiches in town, my son and I love the turkey sandwich with avocado and my wife loves the freshly-​made chamango. Everything in this place is fresh and the place is spotless, you’ll want to hang out and eat here.
Mary, Yessenia and the rest of the staff are amazing people, who will treat you as family. I can’t say enough about how nice they are with everyone.
Oh and the ice cream is delicious. Try this place, you won’t be dissapointed!

Great selection sandwiches, salads and soups. Also has a fresh juice bar and smoothies.

The new spot. We found this place through Unilocal and decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed! We’ve been here twice just this week! They have everything here. They have smoothies, coffee, a good root beer assortment, tons of chips and snacks, desserts, and of course, the amazing sandwiches. The turkey mex on toasted sourdough is my favorite, and I always pair it with a smoothie. Last time I got mango banana-​amazing! Everything here is made with fresh fruits, ingredients, and extra love and care.
Mary’s has a very home-​y feel, the staff is very welcoming, and I love that it’s a family-​owned business. The location is so convenient, right in the heart of 3^rd avenue and close to F street.
Also – extra points because one of the employees there paints and she is so great at it! (And her daughter is adorable).
All in all, Mary’s Downtown Plaza is our new favorite smoothie/​deli and we will most definitely be back. We love it here! :)

This place is just down right aweosme. High quality foods, great prices! The lady is super nice and friendly, Yesmina (daughter) of owner. I will be coming back for an awesome sandwich. Bread was super fresh and every bite of my sandwich was great. This place definately beats Hungry Hanks.

Did I mention the deli, café, and hair salon all in one… and it’s good… ugh I’m done great service. .friendly faces. the establishment is just starting out but it’s getting there. the food and the kind faces make up for everything. i see your vision Mary and I appreciate the Dream. keep it up

One of the best tuna sandwiches I have ever had. «Killer Tuna» on toasted sourdough is my new go to sandwich. Albacore Tuna, hard boiled egg, peppers, bacon, avocado, onions, lettuce, tomato. The combination to my happiness

Second time here in the past 2 weeks! I’m so glad my guy and I stumbled upon this place! It was a toss up between Mary’s and Hanks I believe which is right up the street, but guess which one we chose?! (Thank you Unilocal!) :)
1^st time: Killer Tuna (customer recommendation which is now my FAVORITE) and the Basil & Artichoke Panini w/​a Cookies & Cream Frappé
2^nd time: Killer Tuna and Mary’s D’Lite (owner recommended) Who would have a thought a sandwich with so many veggies would be so good? A MUST TRY
Huge portions, excellent customer service, cozy atmosphere, good location, etc. Mary is awesome at what she does and I will definitely recommend this place to many!

A nice hidden gem. Ordered the pastrami sandwich, and it was really good. My wife also loved sharing her turkey mex with our son. Will come again for the ice cream.

Totally random find. I was on my lunch and asked my phone to find me a new deli to try.
So cute and welcoming. I ordered the lemon artichoke chicken panini with homemade lemonade. It was bursting with flavor and grilled to perfection. I will def be coming back as I love a good sandwich. Being from New York I find I have a higher standard for sandwiches, but do give this place a shot.
