Another seasonal gouging establishment, nothing organic, $ 12 for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. No love for the locals… Your call

Great for a slice or whole pizza, call ahead for a whole pie. Plenty of other eats & treats. Yummy fresh baked baguettes, grab one for the beach and one for your freezer. The porch is a nice place to sit and eat if you can score seating(easier at dinner than bfast or lunch). It is pricey because it’s the vineyard. But it’s good food and great people watching. Hint — watch your toes, everyone stubs their feet on the rocking chairs as they scout for a place to sit.

Great egg sandwiches, great little store. Even better service, with a super smile and kind words and enjoyable, albeit brief, conversation. No one here is too cool for school, thankfully.

There’s a nice although limited selection of basic needs. People are friendly. Parking is miserable but can work. There’s a restaurant thingy as well as a market. The prices are painful but there isn’t any competition for quite some distance. If you need it now there’s a chance you’ll find it here. If you don’t need it right away and can wait to get to Edgartown or Oak Bluffs you’ll probably save some money and find something closer to what you are looking for.

This review is for the pizza & sandwiches, and the general atmosphere. As a grocery/general store, it’s very expensive and not terribly useful. The pizza is just perfect — I feel like I’m back in NYC except way less stressed. The porch is the perfect place to eat your afternoon slice.

Cool little store on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Convenient when you’re in this area, where there aren’t many places to buy things. And the food is great if you need a quick lunch. It’s very rural. I enjoyed coming here when I was a regular on the island. Bring a GPS then drive around and get lost. There are great and fantastic views everywhere, with plenty to see. Driving through the woods the deer are plentiful, and would come up very close to the truck if I were to stop and eyeball them.

The pizza here is off the chain. So good. Perfect crispy crust. Not a lot of pizza drippins. I had a few slices of the cheese and then went for the Island Grown of the day(onions, moz, and potatoes). It was a super hearty slice. They also have caffeine free diet coke which I love because I am a subhuman mutant.

Love the cheese pizza at Chilmark General Store(big enough to comfortably feed two adults). My husband liked the Turkey Cranberry and Chicken Parm sandwiches. Food takes a little while to get ready(made to order), so get there a little early to grab seats if you’re looking for lunch on the porch. Right down the street from Chilmark Chocolates — another up island favorite.

Hmmmm where do I start. A hidden gem in the island which everyone knows about. Had the chicken parm, fresh bread, fresh sauce, chicken was pretty good. Nicely toasted bun. Highly recommend. Staff is friendly.

Eat here if you want, the pizza isn’t half-bad, but unless you’re paying with Monopoly money the $ 25.50 for a large pie seems somewhat criminal. I get that it’s «the Vin-yahd,» but last I checked tomato sauce is cheaper by the gallon than gas and most of the ingredients are locally harvested. The whole atmosphere(attitude) reeks of tourist exploitation and true islanders know to stay away for the summer months. If you’d like a real vineyard experience, that speaks to how things used to be, try the Orange Peel Bakery on a Wednesday night. Family friendly(and not just for $$$) they provide a wonderful pizza experience for islanders to celebrate and feel proud of. My advice — skip the Chilmark General Store and find something more quintessentially island.

So coming up-island enough, this place might as well be Chilmark Town Hall. Great food, great people watching, good supplies spot, all smack in the middle of Chilmark. The pizza gets a lot of love from me, being a New Yorker. The version they dish out is classic NY style, minus the greasiness. Cheese, specialty, pepporoni, etc. are all good in my book. The sandwiches are great, the prepared foods are delicious and the coffee is always on point. The actual store portion stocks anything you would really need for a weekend/week trip in terms of supplies. The big draw of this place is hanging on the porch. Now, there is a method to the madness with hanging on the porch. It can get super aggressive and you can be sitting hanging out and have numerous groups hover over you waiting for you to get up — which completely does not lend to a laid back, up-island atmosphere. Don’t come with a group of 15 trying to lock down half the porch to hangout on during the lunch or breakfast rush. If you have a larger group, come during downtime(i.e.between meals) and hang. Otherwise, you’ll be one of those annoying people hovering over people rushing them to finish. Even better, come off hours during a good beach day, when it’s really low key. Then you can eat your delicious food in peace, go through a Sunday NY Times and soak in all the up-island vibe in and around the General Store. Lesson to be learned in my review? Don’t be that«hovering» gal/guy on a busy Saturday/Sunday morning.

I love it here for an early morning breakfast after walking my dog on the beach. The breakfast sandwiches and coffee are delightful! The muffins are nice and fresh. Reading the paper on the rocking chairs on the porch while having my breakfast is a great start of the day!

Reviews about best pizza ever? Not sure where else these people have ever had pizza before. Sure, it’s a convenient space on a road with nothing else on it so you are delighted to have somewhere to stop for a quick bite. The big porch and rocking chairs are nice but the throngs of obnoxious, pretentious NYers with their bratty kids would prevent me from stopping again when crowded.

Best pizza on the island. Been going here for years. Calling ahead to order is key. Definitely worth the drive.

The deep dish pizza I had was so great, unfortunately the poor service soured the experience. They shorted me in change until I pointed it out to the manager who had to speak with the employee with the attitude problem and I waited thirty minutes for a slice after she«forgot» to place my order. Hopefully, this was not an accurate representation of the store because their pizza was quite delicious and the pizza makers seemed to have a great work ethic in the back.

Very good pizza but you have to call ahead. That’s the trick. I had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes but I can actually say it was worth it b/c I had nothing to do anyway.

The Chilmark Store has its devotees, but I can’t say I’m one. The scene on the porch, with tow-headed rich kids from the Community Center day camp running wild and Alan Dershowitz holding court, harries the ordinary shopper, and the lines for pizza(pretty good — not world-class) can get intense. The grocery selection is adequate but limited; best to call ahead if you’re in doubt. Sub-par produce. I love the Vineyard for its low-key charms. Up-Islanders who prefer a higher wattage find this place more to their liking.

When people try to convince others that Martha’s Vineyard is not just an island version of Cape Cod, this is one of the things that comes to mind. Cape Cod has a few markets like this, but the caliber of this little market blows them away. It’s like someone went to a bodega in NYC, brought all the best specialty and locally made items to stock the shelves with, threw in a bistro style pizza counter(the vegetarian one was delicious) and some organic coffee and gave it a proper New England porch to enjoy it all on. Yes, the prices are outrageous, but if you’re one of the New Yorkers visiting, you probably won’t notice much difference. Even the Cape Codders have suffered from these same overpriced markets, but in our case most of them have Uncle Ben’s and Folgers on the shelves at those high prices. Whether you’re there for the summer or just for a day, this place is a great stop on your itinerary to Menemsha or Aquinnah.

Best vegetarian pizza in the known universe. When I vacationed on the Vineyard, I had to have a slice a day. Whole wheat crust, and a variety kinds of vegetables, and not too much cheese. The pepperoni is also delicious, and none of it is expensive. Great relaxing on the porch, and good ice cream in the freezer make this picturesque store a convenient lunch hangout.

A store to relax A great place located near Beetlebung Corner. Can’t ask for a better name than that. It’s just a little store with the usual coffee, ice cream, and other grocery type things. Of course it’s expensive because after all it is on the Vineyard. Two things about this place stand out. First the location. It is conveniently place so when you bike out to Gay Head you can stop there for breakfast and then stop again for lunch on the way back. You can take a break, sit outside and watch the world go by. The second great thing is the pizza. They have superb pizza with a zillion different toppings. All kinds of veggies including egg plant, mushrooms, broccoli, pineapple and even goat cheese if you have a masochistic streak. You can get just about every combination imaginable. A great place with local flavor that is worth going out of your way to seek.
