I know nothing about skateboards but my son asked for one for Christmas. I went to Wilson Yards after reading the reviews and I am SO glad I did. The owner, Gabriel, is SO nice and really wants to get you the right board and make you happy. He listened to me describe my son and then pulled three boards down and described what he liked best about each. He listened again while I went into detail about my son’s needs and then recommended the one he thought would be best — even though it was less expensive than a similar one he had taken from the wall. He also pointed me toward the slightly larger one explaining that my son would grow out of the smaller one too quickly and that if we took good care of it, I might not have to replace his board for several years. He cares more about making people happy and helping the next generation of skaters than he does about making lots of money. It was, hands down, my favorite holiday shopping trip of this or any other year. Kinda makes me want a skateboard, too…

Two of my bearings seized up and needed a replacement for skate practice on the fly. This was the only shop that was showing open at 6:15pm on Sunday. Drove out to this shop in the snow tonight to pick up some new bearings store was closed.

I took my daughter to get her first skateboard and another for me. After visiting a few other shops, we chose to buy our new boards here. Gabriel was super kind and helpful. The prices were more competitive, with a better selection. But mostly the customer service was top notch! Not as polished as some of the other shops you’ll visit, but consider me(us) customers for life.

Been to many a skate shops and can say that the sincerity and service you get from Gabe is the best! This is a small spot that serves the needs of the skate community in a personable way. Gabe is also generous with mags and stickers. Whatever it takes to show love for the sport. Reasonable prices and excellent advice!

I knew the owner coming into the store because he was a regular at the starbucks I use to work at. gabriel is a very unpretentious and skate knowledgeable man. He doesnt try to oversell you anything and always looks out for your wallet. The prices at his store are beyond reasonable. I got a set of Bones Reds for $ 17! The selection on boards is a bit tight but the vast knowledge oozing out of that store is priceless. When I strolled in, the walls were decorated with street art from local uptown artists and there are some chairs and couches for customers to sit and chill. A lot of the neighborhood skaters come in and offer some great advice on skateboards too.

I took apart a skateboard in order to decorate the deck, and then couldn’t get it back together again. When I brought it into Wilson Yards, Gabriel(the owner) told me the reason why I wasn’t successful and put it together free of charge. Now I know I shouldn’t have taken it apart in the first place. Gabriel is super knowledgeable, friendly, and fair. His prices for gear(helmets and pads) seemed to be on the low end — $ 15 for old-school Rector knee pads in dope colors!

I visited three Chicago skateboard shops in one day. The first shop was an expensive boutique: high-end stuff for rich people who just want to have spent the money. At the second shop, the skateboards were there to add street-cred to the t-shirts that were the main business. The third time(Wilson Yards, Inc.) was the charm. There was a range of products. The guy there was very helpful. He seemed more interested in the quality of his merchandise(i.e. how good it is for skating) than in the branding attached to a particular package of screws and nuts. He up-sold me on only one thing: I ended up buying the $ 12 bearings instead of the $ 11 ones because he said they were good, and I am not disappointed. It seems like his main concern was in getting people out skating on equipment that would serve them well. That’s what I was looking for. p. s. Write down the address before you look for this place, because it’s easy to walk right past this hole-in-the-wall store.

Wilson Yards, the best skate shop near you! Great owner, very friendly and eager to get you out on the best board for the least amount of money. He helped me struggle with a bad axel and re-threaded them all for free. They have some great old school boards and a nice selection of trucks… Stop by on your way to Wilson and get set-up. Not to mention, he helps out people that get boards stolen, by giving away donated boards.
