I used to bring all of my jewelry here, until TWO pieces were lost. Since the store was only open until 4 or 5(there didn’t seem to be set hours) on weekdays, I would leave my jewelry with John for weeks & sometimes months before I could find a chance to get in to pick it up. John is very informal, & the receipts were handwritten & contained little information. I didn’t have a problem with this as I naively trusted that his system worked. The last time that I went in to pick up my jewelry, I noticed that one of my rings was missing. John told me that I had already picked it up & argued with me that I had lost it. He told me that he had been in the business 20 or so years & had never lost anything. There was no way for me to prove that I hadn’t picked it up because of poor record keeping. My heart sunk, as it was a REALLY expensive ring. I got a call several months later from John telling me that he had found my ring. When I stopped in to pick it up, it was a DIFFERENT ring of mine that he had found. Clearly he was capable of losing his customers’ jewelry. While I was happy to have one ring back, it was only a fraction of the value of the other one. You may be wondering how I did not realize that I was missing the ring that was later returned, but I brought A LOT of jewelry to John for sizing /repairs. I also noticed later on that one of the stones in a pair earrings he had repaired for me had been replaced with a different one. There was a clear stone(possibly quartz) in the place of one of the blue topaz stones, which I can only assume was cracked or lost in the repair. Bottom line: I would not recommend this jeweler.
