Transmissions 4 Less

I came to this place to swap faulty engine on my VW 08 Passat and haven’t regret.
First of all that is the only shop that allowed me to bring my own engine to install, not that they will find for me, so I saved a lot on that.
Second, labor cost was flat and cost me 800, this is 25% cheaper then in other shops.
Owner is a very nice person, he answer all your question via email fast and at almost any time. After job was done and I drove to my home on my new car with the new engine, I found that oil pan on my new engine needs to be replaced, so I returned back and they installed oil pan from my old engine for free on the same day.
From contras I can mention that this place is packed sometimes, so it’s increases service time. Also they dont accept credit cards at the moment I was there, only debit and cash, but may be this is not so anymore.
So this place is not a 5 star of course (how Unilocal suggests «Woohoo! As good as it gets!») but I’ll pick a 5 star to balance all negative reviews on this page. This is because people come to this page only if there are any problems, and don’t come if everything went smooth. When I was looking for service for my car, I was very suspicious about Transmission4Less becouse of all this negative reviews in internet, but looks like i’m lucky, everything is good with my car so far.

I hate mechanics. There, I said it. This coming from a guy who likes to drive 10 year old luxury cars. I live up in the north shore and there is a saying that you get what you pay for. That may be true, but I paid a lot for repairs done wrong in the past.
My trans started slipping. The BMW Stealerships wanted over 7,000.00 to rebuild the transmission. Another private mechanic in my area wanted 3,500.00 and he was going to ship it out to another guy. I started looking around and nobody would quote a price over the phone except these guys. What I liked the most was that they posted their prices on their website. They stick to their price. Another plus is that they have something like 16 bays to work on cars and all they do, I think, is rebuild transmissions. They must do over a hundred cars a month. This left me with confidence and I dropped my car off on a Saturday.
After a week and a couple of days I got my car back. I went on the expressway and drove home. I didn’t have one issue and was happy to be back in my 2005 645 vert.
I still have to go back after a week and then again in two months. I guess they do this with all cars for adjustments in case something is not lined up 100%. But as of today, no issues.
So why not five stars? I almost did.
The negatives
1. It’s in a bad neighborhood. But let’s be realistic. If you have to pay more for the property or rent, the prices go up.
2. I feel horrible saying this, but the on-​hold music is very difficult on the ears to those who don’t understand the language. Please don’t take that personally, but consider turning it off.
3. The signage needs to be updated. They say they only take checks, or cash. They take debit cards as well.
I still am on the edge of upgrading them to a five. So, for those of you considering hiring these guys… Please consider that (I’m guessing) they do 1,200 transmissions a year and upset people are the vocal ones. Since there are only a few negative comments on here, give them your business. You will end up with a car that is running good and you will save some money.
I’m going to wait and see how my check ups go and update this post then. But, for now, thank you for a good job and a great price.
Oh, as listed on their website, I paid $ 2,500.00 for my BMW 645Ci. Most cars are much cheaper.
Well the check up didn’t go well. The car still had problems. Six weeks of trying to fix my trains and then he gave up and refunded my money. I ended up going to another mechanic who swapped my transmission. The car runs great now. Funny thing is that the second mechanic said it was a ford transmission in my BMW. I didn’t think that could happen. I don’t know who put that transmission in there, but don’t you think T4less should have told me? In any case, I went on a roller coaster ride with these guys. From five stars to two stars. I would have given him one, but he did refund all that I paid him.

I would have to say I should of read the non recommended reviews before even wasting almost 15 minutes on the phone. But, like most when you are need of something and you do not want to get hustled by the in person shop you took car to, your sub conscience gets the best of you. What I mean by this is you shop quick to get a second opinion to find out that this was truly the con. I almost rushed into something I would of totally regretted after not only seeing these reviews but experiencing horrible initial customer service.
So, I call in about the $ 699 (most cars) no hidden fee, less than most transmission rebuilders in Chicago speal I saw on the website. The receptionists hits me with «where did you get $ 699 from cars start off at $ 799″! Really, so she must of not received the internal memo because their website was last updated this year. So when was the increase and why wouldn’t they have updated their misleading price? Probably because this is how they sucker you to get you in the door! So she quotes my vehicle with less than $ 1200 ($ 1050) „out the door, taxes included“ and then when she tells me about the free diagnostic and switches up my quote to $ 1200? So I contest this and you know what comes next… well you can take your car somewhere else rebuttal.
All I have to say my friends is read all the reviews and especially this one from Judith M. After reading that review right now I was appalled to even see that the owner wrote back to her and argued with her instead of remedying the situation. Oh, and it was really chauvinistic as well assuming that women should listen to men and such.
To end my friends, you know the saying…“you get what you pay for». $ 699 for a rebuilt transmission… oh yeah I forgot they conveniently raised this to one hundred more when I called!
RECOMMENDATION: STAY AWAY

I took my 1999 Honda Accord to Transmissions 4 less in December 2010 for a transmission job. They had the car for about 5 days and then called us to say it was fixed.
Upon receiving the vehicle we proceeded to drive it about 50 miles, with the transmission apparently fixed, but starting to get louder and louder. We eventually stopped about 50 miles south of Chicago on I-​57 and called the owner of the shop. He did arrange to have the vehicle towed back to the shop for no charge, where he did some more work on it. Although his shop is located in a rough neighborhood and they are not exactly customer friendly, I can overlook that if the price is low and they do a competent job. For example, I recall they did not want personal checks or credit cards, and that’s fine if they spell it out for you at the beginning, but they didn’t.
They did not do a competent job the second time either. After having my car in twice and proclaiming it fixed both times, I came back and took delivery of the vehicle. It was obvious there was still something wrong with the transmission. The transmission was very loud and rough shifting. At this point I just simply did not trust them to do a competent repair. Since I had moved to a new city and did not want to engage in a very time-​consuming dispute, I traded in the vehicle. It’s a real shame, because if they had repaired it properly I would likely still be driving it. Unfortunately, I had a new job in a new city and had just had major surgery, so I could not really deal with further incompetence. The test driver at the trade-​in place said it was obvious there was something wrong with the transmission, and I got very little for the trade-​in.
So here’s the takeaway; you get what you pay for. Transmissions 4 less may offer a very attractive price, but they do not know what they are doing, at least on Hondas, and you’ll pay for it in the long run. It still burns in my craw that they took a nice 1999 Accord with years left on it and ruined it.

After 13 months the trans is slipping again, tried calling multiple times and got the run around about the owner not being available. Finally got fed up and drove to their new location on the south side and got the same story and that if I had a problem they couldn’t fix my car for at least 6 weeks. I have two kids under 3 and can’t afford to get stuck anywhere.
Couldn’t afford to get my car fixed correctly so I sold it and now I take the CTA to work and when I need a car I just borrow my wife’s.
If your trans is slipping go get if fixed by someone who will stand behind their work, better yet go to a quality shop that will correctly fix the problem the first time.

FYI. I didn’t have a husband, it was my boyfriend and he didn’t agree with you, anyway. I couldn’t/wouldn’t even repeat what he said.
Anyway, I spent my $ 900, so I didn’t have to listen to anybody. Just making that statement is suspect. What are you talking about? Are you sayiing, I’m not subservient enough, in my listening skills, as it pertains to a ASSUMED husband? Didn’t you see where it said «I paid » .not anybody else. Me. I paid. What’s your point?
When we got the car back it was making a loud noise that was coming from the muffler. It was not making that noise when it went in. The brakes, the muffler and the transmission are three different things.
You didn’t do anything for me when you made the adjustment. You adjusted it because you didn’t do it right in the first place. IF SOMETHING IS DONE RIGHT IT DOESN“T NEED ADJUSTING.
The brakes got fixed and the transmission was still messed up. The car had to be driven in neutral. I’m not stupid, no one can tell me, that the gear was shifting incorrectly because of the brakes.
We didn’t have the time to bring the car, from Naperville to the north side of Chicago, to have it adjusted for 6 months. My son went to fight a war, he didn’t have time bring the car in to be adjusted over and over and over. When he got back, the warranty was over.
Nevertheless, the muffler was making a noise that it wasn’t making before, like a part was missing. You said the exhaust system would have to be replaced. Actually, seeing that you were driving the same car, that added to my suspicion. You sure remember a lot for a car you worked on from 3 years ago. Did you look it up, when you saw this review? Well, go look up the others too… lol
I don’t have an attitude. I don’t have to lie. I’m very blessed. What you don’t know is I’m in business for myself too. And I’m known all over Illinois and other cities, for my honesty and integrity. So where are you going with this? There are more bad reviews on you, that fall in line with my experience. Use the filter to see the other bad reviews.
PS. I never went to any place on State st. They are probably totally different mechanics over there.

I have a ’98 Honda Accord and took my car here 2 weeks ago after my hubby noticed my trans was slipping. I thought it was because maybe my foot was slipping off the gas pedal, oops! lol. anywhoo. we looked around and found that this was by far the best deal. For my car everyone was charging over $ 2,000. Ridulous! Although i still feel $ 1300 is still a lot of money. from what i hear for a transmission that’s cheap. I have had no problems since, and they also give you a warranty, After 7 days they tell you bring you car in for a check up, and then back to them in 2 months for them to refill all fluids. Pretty nice! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
