I am checking out the Hypocrites series for the first time after so many people have raved about it. What it definitely has is energy and spirit that you don’t see at many professional places. It is a little rougher around the edges but that gives it a very human and real effort, you feel part of the show in the intimate space that seems to involve a bit of audience interaction. I was a little unsure after seeing American Idiot(I saw the touring Broadway show first) as the sound was pretty loud and most of the lyrics were not comprehendible, but I was helped by having seen the other show first. Burning Blackbeard was a moving treat. I was sad to have my night cancelled for one preview but they will give me a ticket to another show. Definitely a great company to explore, the tickets are cheap, the crowd is younger and lively, and there is no stuffiness of the bigger theaters.

You will never go wrong seeing a Hypocrites show. You will never be disappointed. That’s an amazing, but true statement. I’ve followed this theatre company for almost 20 years, so I should know. We saw«American Idiot» at The Den last night and loved it. I am not fluent in theatre criticism, but I can say there’s great nonstop music, dance, energy, and feel good at the end if it-ness.

The Hypocrites for The Tennessee Williams Project at the Chopin Theater. Great Actors. Beautiful set design. Full integration of audience into the play. Dedicated. Elaborate make-up and costumes. Detail oriented. Functional and era appropriate props. Passionate. I am now a groupie! ;-)

You can’t leave one of The Hypocrites shows without feeling cool, joyful, and just plain entertained! Their unique style of performance and open attitude toward the audiences ropes you in from scene one. The theater is really cool, reasonably priced, and cocktails are served during the performance. This is a can’t miss chicago thing!
