I had the Cajun Connoisseur cater a Mardi Gras party this past weekend. We had the shrimp jambalaya with andouille sausage, garlic chicken, and vegetarian red beans and rice. The food was excellent. The jambalaya had lots of shrimp and sausage and had a nice kick to it. The red beans and rice had plenty of flavor without any meat. The garlic chicken was nice and garlicky. We had more than enough food for about 50 people with those three full trays of food. The service was also excellent. Kyle and Regina were very friendly and thorough with confirming my order. They delivered on time and they accepted credit cards. Thank you Kyle and Regina for helping to make our Mardi Gras party a success with your excellent food!

As good as it gets in the Chicago area. If you like Cajun food, you will enjoy this. Well worth the money.

Guy at the truck was nice. Gave me a sample of lobster mac n’ cheese which was tasty. I ordered the king crab po’ boy. Lots of good flavors going on. And lots of real crab. It is pretty heavy on the butter, but(ter) that’s why I couldn’t stop.

I love the food on this truck. The cajun po boy sandwiches are amazing. The gumbo is delightful and definitely tickles your tastebuds. I’ve also had the scampi(garlic) salad and loved it. The portions are a good size for me. I visit whenever I see them. The one thing I haven’t tried are the shrimp(or lobster) and grits and I can’t way to do so. I promise you that on many of the extremely frigid days in Chicago, this food will warm you. Can’t say enough good things about the food, owner and staff. GOODSTUFF!

This food truck is super over priced and not very good. I got the shrimp po boy. It was extremely garlicky, basically just tasted like garlic and shrimp. Didn’t have any Cajun flavor at all. The shrimp was very rubbery. He accidentally gave me fries that I didn’t order, and then tried to ask me to pay for the fries. I would give it one star because it was so bad that I ended up taking two bites and throwing it away, but it wasn’t inedible. It just wasn’t very good and I would never eat here again. A waste of money.

I tried this truck for the first time waaaaay back in September and have since made it my mission to work my way through the menu. I am a fan of flavorful, spicy food and The Cajun Connoisseur has delivered that with every meal. So far I have had the Gumbo, the Baked Potato with Cajun Style shrimp, several variations of the Po Boys they offer(try it with cheese!), and my new favorite the Shrimp and Grits. The quality of ingredients and size of their sandwiches has been consistent on every visit. I have never had an «off» or «bad» meal from this truck and I regularly recommend them to friends. If you are looking for a hot, filling meal full of great Cajun flavor this is the truck to visit.

I wish Unilocal had negative star ratings. I really wanted to like this food truck simply because the owner has a winning personality. He had me convinced he had the«BEST Gumbo in the STATE!». I had a sample of the shrimp and grits and they spectacular. So why wouldn’t the gumbo be equally as impress. So, I gave up $ 12(Twelve) for the half bowl gumbo. The gumbo was dismal to say the least. It was nothing more than brown water with flickering of rice, shrimp and CORN. The dish was lacking the traditional«Gumbo» smell, texture and taste. Total Disappointment!

A bit pricey doesn’t begin to explain it! $ 10 for either one of the sandwich selections. Here’s the catch… that $ 10 does not cover anything extra to make your sandwich a meal. No drink, no fries, no sides, nothing. I chose the Cajun Shrimp Po Boy. The sandwich was good it came with plenty of shrimp & garlic inspired seasoning but unfortunately I can’t say that it was $ 10 good. I told the staff that I was looking for something that offered a real Cajun kick. I was in the mood for spicy food & I didn’t receive that at all. I also tired the gumbo. I’m a sucker for a good hot soup. This gumbo ticked me off. Yes it was flavorful but there was 1 too many missteps for it to cost $ 12! 1. I have a nagging feeling that the sausage that was used in this gumbo was the Aldi brand polish sausage. 2. Gumbo is one of those dishes best served with a dash of love. I should NOT be spitting out pieces of crab shells & fish bones. 3. $ 12& I can’t get a couple of crackers or some cornbread? SOMETHING!!! I gave 2 stars b/c despite the hang ups the food wasn’t terrible. It was definitely an experience I could’ve passed on though. Someone needs to rethink this business model to get me to try this spot again.

Had the Cajun style king crab po boy on Italian bread, with spinach and tomatoes. A bit pricey for a lunch meal, but was filling. I got it Cajun style, next time would try with the garlic style. Everyone should try their food atleast once. Seafood is fresh and you get a good amount of it for the price you pay. Ran into someone eating gumbo from here and they said it was delicious, so will definitely try that next tine. Owner took my order and was really nice as well and recommended this dish. Will be back!
