I was on a hunt for furniture and this was next door to the Merchandise Mart so I stopped in. With a name like«Antiquarian» I suspected everything would be out of my price range but you never know, right? The antiques were mostly Asian style — room screens and heavily carved wooden tables, chairs and occasional pieces. The first storefront I entered was deceptively small. But in fact, the building extends down, back, and up two more stories, with creaky wooden staircases connecting the floors. It is fun to explore and possible to get lost. In a dark alcove I found several nice pieces of Art Deco and mid-century modern furniture. Another space had piles of large ceramic cache pots. There are porcelain and ceramic pieces, again, mostly Asian, in locked glass cases. I saw odds & ends of good French glass(Lalique) and a very few American items, everything more high end than not. There was even a bearskin rug with the toothy head of the bear still attached. I wondered what my dog would think if I brought that home. Prices were high but the proprietor was friendly and seemed willing to bargain.
