Kim the owner is amazing. I came in for a relaxer and a hair cut and she did such an amazing job! There is another lady there who helps Kim out, I believe her name is Angela, she was so nice. They both are very welcoming and make you feel at home. The store also sells jewelry and clothing that are quite unique. It’s hard to find a good hair salon that takes care of African and African America hair, especially in Hyde park Area. I definitely will be returning to this salon.

I love coming here for unique finds! I am definitely a fan of Kimberly’s thoughtful, engaging, and fun customer service. She treats you like you have known her your entire life– and the way she approaches you as soon as you walk in makes you feel so welcome and fabulous at the same time. Stamp’Lays is a one-of-a-kind boutique and salon on 53rd Street that adds sass and glamour to Hyde Park. Kimberly treats her customers with utmost respect and helps bring out the unapologetic, confident side in you when you are looking for a special outfit and accessories for a «night out with the girls» or even date nights. I would definitely agree that the fabulous clothes she offers are«wearable works of art» for special occasions and events. She also offers pieces that work into everyday wear, and can be considered«classic– with a touch of glam.» Her prices for clothing and jewelry can be pretty steep for the average customer, however, the average cost per wear is extremely reasonable in my opinion– especially if you find yourself in love with any one of her fabulous finds. I bought a gorgeous burnished gold plated bib necklace embroidered with turqoise and brown enamel accents(looks very Egyptian) with matching earrings that I STILL get compliments on from strangers and friends alike! I also think she has a good eye for what women want, and you can tell she is always on top of the latest trends. Her boutique is dark, edgy, glamourous and dramatic. She has a changing room if you want to try something on too– which connects the boutique to the salon in the back.

Stamp’Lays’ cool window display is just a small taste of what this small salon/boutique is all about. The owner picks truly hot, fresh items from L.A. and New York for her formidable collection. While prices can be a little high(tops are usually $ 80 – 150, and dresses and blazers can be as much as $ 400), the clothes are well made and seriously fashionable. Materials are complex and high-quality, designs are unique and cutting edge– what can truly be described as «wearable art”– that is going to stay in your wardrobe for decades. As the owner explained to me, «You need something that when your friends say ‘Let’s go out,’ you can pick up that outfit and tell your friends, ‘Okay, I’ll be twenty minutes.’ «Virtually every piece in Stamp’Lays is one of those pieces. You know it’s going to work. The shop also boasts some gorgeous bags, brilliant(and inexpensive) jewelry, and really friendly and fashion-forward staff. It has a growing and faithful clientele, and for good reason. Some of my favorite items from there are a green woven tunic dress from Nuvula, a giant bejeweled spider shirt encrusted with jewels(trust me– it’s so cool), and a gold necklace with a big swordfish as the front panel.

This small shop in Hyde Park is both a hair salon and a boutique that is definitely worth a visit. Most of the items are pretty pricey, but some of the jewelry is quite reasonable(I bought a pair of earrings for $ 10) and they have a great selection. The staff is friendly and fun and this store is a great addition to the 53rd St. shops.
