We have been going to Spencer Weisz Galleries for years. He has repaired one frame that we had done elsewhere that was curling up and has framed many of our French Posters that we have purchased in Europe. He is a good business man to deal with.

I walk by Spencer’s gallery nearly every day on my way to work and finally, having a few things needing framed, popped in to get an impression. Spencer, from the moment we met, was very friendly and professional. He steered me to a group of frame styles that he keeps in bulk to help keep the cost down for clueless folks like myself. He gave me a general quote, shook my hand, and out the door I went. This was a Wednesday evening. Fast forward to Thursday. I drop back into Spencer’s gallery with my art. He was out, but I was able to leave the pieces there. I got a call from Spencer not long after, letting me know that he LOVED my art and that he was excited to set me up. I came back after work and Spencer gushed over the prints I had dropped off and gave me a final number. Now I’m no framing expert, but I’ve asked about custom framing before and the responses have always sent me running. Spencer’s pricing was incredibly reasonable, even for a chain store like Michael’s. He promised that they’d be finished sometime next week and gave me a slip with the agreed upon price. Friday afternoon, I’m busy at work when I get a call from Spencer letting me know that the art has been framed and letting me know that I’d be very happy. After work I popped in for the 3rd day in a row to see Spencer attaching the brackets and wire to the back of my frames. When he flipped them up, I was blown away. His suggestions, materials, and final product beat my expectations at every turn. Now this isn’t your standard framing affair — at least from my understanding. Where can you get custom framing done in less than a day and at incredibly low prices? I hadn’t found it until the day I stumbled into Spencer’s gallery and I may never find it again. It’s worth noting, that Spencer’s frame jobs are totally legitimate. The materials are great, he makes sure he’s using acid free backing paper and uses Plexiglas that protects your art from UV light, and uses a heavy duty wire to hang the frame from. This is «museum style» framing. And if you’re interested in vintage art, you’ll want to spend some time in this place poking around. Great stuff. Spencer will take care of you — trust me.

I’m an avid poster collector and have worked with Spencer for nearly 10 years. Spencer is very knowledgable about his art and has a great collection/selection from which to choose, whether early lithographs or more contemporary originals. His in-house framing and restoration shop is also second to none. I’ve always found him to be honest, reasonable, and great to work with. I just wish I had more walls to fill! It’s always a pleasure visiting Spencer and his gallery.

Spencer«fixed» two vintage propaganda posters for me several years back. One had slight water damage that needed repair. He was very nice and convinced me that he could do the repairs and would use the best ink/archival ink that would not fade. The posters looked amazing when I picked them up and they went right into proper storage. About a month ago I pulled out the posters. The poster he repaired looks atrocious! The ink he used has more than noticeably faded. It would make sense if I had the poster displayed near a window with direct light on it for the past 3 years. Any art that has been properly stored with NO light should not look this bad. Very disappointed to say the least. Any company or person that is trusted to fix your cherished art should be ashamed when they use sub-par ink and less than promised techniques, basically ruining your pieces! Would NOT recommend!

If I could give Spencer and his employees 6 stars I would! First his team did a great job with a number of different prints I needed finished. He gave me a bunch of options and never looked to upsell me — just to find what was best for my taste and pricing options. Also When he found out I needed to ship one of my framed prints, he went down stairs and packaged one up for me at no additional cost — probably saving me $ 50 at the UPS store. These guys truly love what they do and will go out of their way for you. Top notch!

Spencer is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with all my custom framing questions! I had a couple items custom-framed. Not only did he do an excellent job, but the turnaround was very fast(a few days). Pricing was totally reasonable(as a comparison, one place near downtown quoted me a price 5x more with a turnaround time of 2+ weeks).

This man is amazing! Spencer is a wealth of knowledge with posters as well as antique furniture. He helped me and spent at least ½ hr and didn’t charge me anything to help me understand the lithograph I had brought in. I learned so much in a such a short amount of time. He is thorough, fair, and knowledgeable. He does not cut corners.

Great with selling you something. But if you want any help after that, you can forget it. Doesn’t call back when he says he would.

I met Spencer at a vintage poster exhibition in downtown Chicago earlier this this. Having been to the same exhibition a year earlier, I was interested in making a small purchase to start my collection. Spencer was the easiest gallery owner to talk to at the exhibition by far! After searching Spencer’s website for available posters; which by the way was very easy to do, I found what I was looking for. So I made the drive into the city and found his gallery… Awesome is the only word I would use to describe his collection, his support staff and prices of his vintage posters in comparison to others! There is so much to see, so many different styles to choose from… I guarantee, you’ll find something you like. Check out his website from time to time for new additions, I do!
