Their platter(thali) is good and have been going there just for that reason. But customer service is horrible. Would not return back.

Food was fine, nothing special. Felt it was expensive for the portions and quality. I was even charged for the refill on my fountain soda, which was on the small side to begin with. Don’t feel the need to go back.

Hit or miss, supposed South Indian fare. It’s odd and funny to me, that I cannot understand what and how they prepare foods here when I’ve eaten South Indian food my entire life. I’ve enjoyed it in India as well and yet find the menu, somewhat foreign. I find that the meals are a North Indian’s interpretation of what South Indian cooking should be. The food is a mere okay but if asked if I would recommend it to anyone, that’s a resounding, «hell no.» Their preparation needs some retraining as many items are oily. Sometimes I like to order appetizers from random diners, motels, restaurants and snack shops on Devon. I’ve found the flavors here to be less than average but occasionally their entrees can be good.(I was cringing when I said good, because in my mind I was thinking. «no. it should be, decent») My experiences of good are met with more experiences of bad. Why do I keep returning? This is a good question. It’s because I’m a South Indian that’s hoping to find a decent Chicago location that serves South Indian fare. I don’t come here routinely or in any sort of schedule. I come those once in-awhile times, hoping with fingers crossed for the best. If the IRS is watching, on one(recent) occasion I was asked whether I wanted to pay in cash. If so, I could save some money and save them some money as well. Odd, so odd. Lastly, this place could use a thorough cleaning. I wish more places would use some warm water when cleaning a sticky surface.

I stopped last week there with my wife. It was really cold and we wanted to have some hot tea. Tea was not hot but mild warm and it tasted like it was made yesterday, They have varieties of sweets and I took two of them(gulab jamun and carrot cake), which I could not eat because it was hard as if a month old. We also ordered samosas but the stuffing in samosas was rotten and was smelling bad so we had to return it back. When we came back my wife got a severe pain in stomach. The only 1 star extra I am giving is because the guy hosting was decent.

Enjoyable Dosa at reasonable price, sambar is a bit on the spicy side but great flavor. No complaints on service. We went at off peak times and mostly orders for take out from customers. They have Indian sweets but haven’t tried it yet. Not sure if this place is halal? But Veg works!

Great food — bad management. The manager had very little knowledge around the quantity of food served and actually started shouting and calling names when tried to negotiate on a catering deal. Go to dine in or carryout — don’t get catering done — they will charge you a premium on the market rate and won’t even talk nice.

We _used_to love the entire menu here. In fact, often even better than the Viceroy, of which they are the fast-food arm of(I believe they actually share the same kitchen). Unfortunately, we recently were trying to work with them on a catering order and were absolutely appalled with the customer service. Sounded like the manager actually worked hard to lose our order! I’ve noticed Viceroy has been running an ongound LivingSocial for some time now… wonder if they customer service is coming to haunt them. Anyone else, had similar experience with them? Unfortunately for us, we really liked the food there, but I simply wouldn;t go back to a place where we cannot feel welcome.

Two hour wait for delivery from a place less than 1 mile away. Arguing with them when they say the delivery guy is standing in front of my house when I am in fact standing in front of my house all by myself. Inability to apparently handle the basics of literacy including reading addresses. Once all that is going on, the food could make me crap gold and be able to teleport for my morning commute and I’d still likely never go back there. But when you wait two hours for pedestrian Indian food, that just rubs salt in the wound.

On a whim, I stopped there today for lunch and was very impressed. This place specializes in South Indian cuisines and I will definitely be back. I got the $ 7 thali lunch special which came on a big tray with small bowls of dhal, another lentil soup, a version of mattar paneer(peas and cheese), a potato dish, yogurt sauce, two kinds of rice, pappadums, flatbread, dessert, and a soda. Everything was fantastic and more than I could eat at one sitting. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. The place was clean with a pleasant décor. Definitely give it a try.

Sagar is my FAVOURITE dosa joint in Chicago. Scratch that — Sagar is my FAVOURITE dosa joint in North America. I shit you not. Located right on Devon(the Little India of Chi-Town), Sagar is a restaurant that has two parts to it. One part is the restaurant itself, and the other part is a Mithai shop(sweets shop) located right next door where you can purchase a multitude of sweets, as well as where you can pick up food to go. The staff travels back and forth between both shops. The service at Sagar is excellent. It feels like it’s a fast food joint because the dosas arrive at your table within minutes of you ordering them. And when the dosas DO arrive — don’t be alarmed. They’re supposed to be double the size of your head. At first glance I never think that I’ll be able to finish one, but I always manage to. The pricing at Sagar is unbelievable. You can get a dosa, yes the aforementioned one that is double the size of your head, for $ 7.95. Say WHAAAAT??? Seriously, you wont need to eat for the rest of the day. I especially recommend the Onion Rava Dosa. You will die and go to heaven. It’s that good. I miss Chicago every day, but one of the things I miss most about living in Chi-Town is getting my weekly fix of Sagar. It’s good to the last bite… that’s assuming your stomach can make it that far ;)
