Please go here and order the crushed beets in chili-brown butter before they sell out — so good I would’ve licked the bowl if I could. Staff is very open, friendly and super helpful. We ate outside, where there is communal seating, on a beautiful night and chatted with a couple of really nice customers. We weren’t really hungry and had just come in for drinks but the food sounded so good we had to order a few small plates. I started off with a glass of the Provence since it was a warm evening which was so refreshing(under the rosès) and delicious. Great wine selection for any price point-had a really wonderful time here and when you’re done go to the California Clipper lounge down the street for a Manhattan!

Helpful staff without being overbearing. They just tell you like it is – no fluff– and I appreciate that. An entertaining selection of wine. Delicious charcuterie platter options. Perfect for a quiet and intimate date.

The food is stupid good. Had the hand cut fries with that garlic aioli and house ketchup and damn, we ordered another one right when we took a bite. The burger was divine, love that it’s grass fed, the burger itself had tons of flavor and the bun was 10⁄10. And then the paaasstaaaa, wow. Fresh pasta for sure, none of that box nonsense, and some kind of mushroom garlicky unique house sauce. Wow, totally going back to Chicago for this restaurant. Still talking about the fries with my friend 3 days later so

Interesting wine list that’s nicely priced. Awesome charcuterie, warm friendly service, and late night kitchen(closes at 1am every night except Sunday). But the grass fed burger… is just wow. I’ve only had one so far, but it left me with a tremendous impression. It has potential to be one of my favorites in a city of great burgers. Can’t wait to go back for more.

I really like the environment. When I first went there it felt very welcoming and very home-y feeling for some reason. But overall food is good service is excellent and couldn’t ask for a better night. Highly recommend this place. Gets choices of wine. :)

Love it here! Have come in a couple of weekday nights and it’s always great. It’s never full, but decently crowded. We sat a cute little table in the corner with huge chairs last time we were in. Their charcuterie and cheese board is amazing! It’s plenty of food for two people, and I always appreciate meat and cheese offerings. We also got the steak tartar which was delicious! Our server was great when it came to picking wines for us to drink.

Great beer and wine list, and fantastic food! My boyfriend was impressed with their German beer selection, and I loved the red wine I decided on. The food was soooo good. We split fries, a salad, the burger, and the crispy duck. All was amazing. Will definitely come back for a casual qui

I highly recommend Rootstock bar, the food is FANTASTIC! Grab a table or sit at the bar, it’s cozy and you will want to just hang out all night. I can’t resist the Bouqurones when they are on the menu or try the charcuterie which has local organic cheese’s and house made pâté(YUM) with a glass of crisp white wine… Perfection! Jamie one of the owners is often behind the bar and assists with my wine selections… always amazing choices! I love the Bucatini with lamb, mussels and the Burger is my favorite in the city! The menu changes all the time with seasonal small plates and vegetarian choices that are so tasty! This is a great place to bring a group share food, drink and hang out. The wine and beer menu is exceptional, the staff is very knowledgable and will help you to choose something new that will not disappoint! I can’t wait to go back!

Rootstock is good. Really good. I’m never overly impressed with any of the service, but the food is fantastic. The servers are thorough in their wine knowledge and def recommend some tasty drinks. Tucked away in-between a residential building and a auto shop, I can always trust that Rootstock is gonna provide a quality Sunday brunch with no wait and only half the hipster sas.

Hands down best Fries in Chicago. Also despite being located in a central hipster location the service is exceptional and friendly. Also if you like booze they have an amazing wine and brew selection. Get involved.

I usually sit at the bar and can say the level of awesomeness is always consistent. Im a huge fan of the chicken liver pâté, and I never fail to find a red wine that suits my needs. Keep up the good work and I’ll see you guys soon! Thanks for being good neighbors.

My friend lives around the corner and had heard about this new place through a co-worker. At least I think it’s newer? We went on Monday evening when it was opening at 5pm and stayed until 7:30! We really enjoyed our time. We sat at the bar and were the first ones there so we chatted with the bartender for a little whom was very pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable on her wines. God, I love a good bartender! They are too rare these days. They have a great drink selection– Wines, cocktails, whiskeys, bourbons, beers! My friend and I both ended up trying and loving this white they had and should’ve got a bottle because we ended drinking 4 glasses each, yikes lol. It was unfiltered, almost like a cider. YUM! They specialize in old-style European wine which I thought was fun and different. I love to try new grapes and not have to see the same wines on a menu– I had never seen any of these before! For food we ordered their sheep’s milk cheese plate, steak tartar(with hard-boiled eggs, like a homemade pickled relish, dill, so good), and a burger. I was very happy with the food although we did have to send the burger back(HATE to do it) because my friend is very particular about her meat. I like mine bleeding so I would’ve been fine but to each their own I guess. The bartender was more than happy to do so but we did expect some kind of discount on that since we had to wait to eat until hers was done. We did not receive that so I did deduct a star, a little disappointing. Other than that though it’s a small menu that probably changes a lot with New American type small plates. Will go back, if not for the drink list alone!

I’ve passed by this place so many times and finally made it in… Great dark ambience, non-pretentious, candle-lit, huge wine selection and nice cheese/charcuterie plates. The staff is knowledgeable about all of the wines, which I always find to be a plus.(they also play good music) :) I highly recommend this place!

I sat at the bar on a busy Tuesday night. I started with a glass of cava before moving to the flight of five sherries for $ 18 I started with an amazing cheese spread for the appetizer which comes with amazing house made complements Main course was the bucatini carbonara, nice and thick The Dessert was chicken liver patè and an order of their homemade chocolate with some type of blueberry complement. So so so good Will return soon

The food and beverage are still good, but the service has gone down a little. On our most recent trip plates were dropped with no explanation as to what’s what. We ordered chef’s choice charcuterie, and we played a little game amongst ourselves trying to bullshit each other what it was that was in front of us. Same with a couple other dishes. Everything was so beautifully prepared, bit of a shame.

Great vibes, extensive wine list and good small eats. The cheese and charcuterie board was phenomenal! Many homemade jams, mustards, and pickled veggies. The pâté is to die for!

MTV True Life: I went to a wine and beer bar for the burger. Now that that’s out of the way, I have to say the burger was delicious. Good meat blend, grind was not too fine/coarse. Maybe a little under seasoned but otherwise was great. I literally can’t comment on anything else because that’s all I had. Conveniently located by a divvy station. Would ride to again.

This has become a standard for us after a repeated visits in 2014. The wine list is extensive and the menu changes frequently enough that we would go back every 2 or 3 months and not repeat what we order. During the summer months, we often go on a week night the and sit outside to enjoy the cooler evenings. We like the romantic and cozy feeling inside if we are on a date night!

This place is great. Small menu, but that’s fine, since everything on it is so well done! Dark, cosy ambiance — this is a winter restaurant! Friendly waitstaff. The burger I had was just incredible. Juicy, delicious and savory — and really, enough for two to share. Short review, but just go here. It’s good.
