I’ve been going here since its inception over two years ago. Overall this place is a good balance of practical fighting skills/techniques training and an adherence to the fundamentals of the particular style of Okinawan karate that it comes from(Matsubayashi Shōrin-ryū). Not dogmatic or cult-like, this dojo is good for anyone, from young to old, and from beginners to those with previous training in this or other arts. Practice sessions can be easy-going or intense depending on the week, but overall the training and style emphasizes a relaxed approach to the art that remains focused on good technique. Not a belt factory or a McDojo, this dojo emphasizes progressive development based on time-honored principles; i.e. doing things the old way. Facilities are modest, but the fees are minimal due to low overhead. Community involvement and engagement are emphasized, adding to the dojo’s measure. Overall, a good solid community institution in formation.

I’m a newbie to Martial Arts. Was nervous because I was expecting the Cobra Kai, but Erik(instructor) is more like a younger and much taller Mr. Miyagi. I’m sure he doesn’t want me comparing the Dojo to the Karate Kid. but what do I know. I’m a newbie. Regardless, I had fun and got a vigorous workout. Will definitely be back.
