Got Sher’s haircut here & they were so accommodating!
The haircutter was so precise and meticulous! He was almost obsessively methodical but yielding tremendous results. It didn’t just look like a hair cut but a transformation of the person himself. Literally the best place ever. ¹¹⁄₁₀ for sure.

The best place in Chicago for men’s and women’s hair cut! Highly recommended. Ben and team do a great job and are very friendly.

I’ve been looking for a new hair salon to try. No. 1 Salon, was rated really well. So, I decided to give them a try. I’ve been dying to get a long bob for a while now, since I recently bleached my hair and it was terribly dry! My boyfriend and I both got haircuts yesterday. We both love our hair cuts! This place is really clean and upbeat. Steven both serviced us both. He is a perfectionist! Overall, I’d come back to ask for Steven.

I’ve been curious about No 1 Salon since they opened, but noticed a lot of reviews from new users so I was a bit apprehensive. After my haircut, I noticed that they had a sign for 20% off for leaving comments on Unilocal,and that solved the mystery. For the record, I’m just wanted to share my experience and didn’t get the discount, and don’t believe it’s good business to offer incentives for reviews. However, I gladly took advantage of the new customer offer.
When I called to ask if they could take me as a walk-​in, there was a little of a language barrier, so I switched over to Cantonese to see if it would be easier but she spoke Mandarin so English worked better, just had to speak more slowly. It was the early afternoon on a weekday, and there was only one other person when I arrived — several stylists hanging out at the waiting area. Tina greeted me and assured me that I would have someone that I could communicate with. I was sent to be washed, where I got a very relaxing scalp massage.
Hugo was my hairstylist. He was friendly and really took his time working on my hair. I had asked a trimmed down version of the same haircut with fresh long layers with moderate thinning out, and he did a good job. The bangs weren’t what I preferred, but he recommended not to cut them too short or they would be unruly. Eventually, I decided to trim them myself after all. I would recommend bringing a photo as an aid, just in case the hairstylist doesn’t see your vision. Good experience, although I’m not sure if it won me over from the other competitors in Chinatown Square just yet.

Got an amazing haircut. Tina took a long time getting every detail exactly perfect. She was polite and fun to chat with. I didn’t have enough time this time to get color, but will definitely be back for haircuts and color. Better service than river north and the price is better. Loved it!

I got my haircut there over the weekend from Tina and I’m still trying to figure out what to do about it. It’s terrible. My hair is short, so an uneven, chunky hair cut is extremely obvious. Do I go back and complain? Do I ask for a refund? Do I let someone try to fix my hair? It’s already short, I can’t afford for it to be any shorter if they try to hack at it again and it turns out even more uneven. Honestly, when it left it looked okay. It wasn’t ideal, but I thought it was at least even. It wasn’t until I took a shower the day after and blow dried my hair that it became obvious that it was not even. My hair is pretty thick, so I’ve never really had to style it, I usually can just blow dry and go. Not this time.
I’ve been taking scissors to my hair to try to fix the strands that are longer than the rest of my hair in that area just to at least even some of it out. I’ve had to curl my hair so that it doesn’t lay flat, because the unevenness becomes even more evident when it’s straight. Even with curls, you can tell it’s uneven.
Nonetheless, I am extremely disappointed in my haircut.

Place looks modern, hair stylist are very accomodating and nice. The location is good, very close to my favorite restaurant !!! I love how she cut my son’s hair … Very trendy !!!

This hair salon is great! I took my mom here and she is quite picky but in the end she is very happy about the haircut. The front desk girl is really friendly and sweet, highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to cut your thick Asian hair.
