As a San Francisco Californian I know good food. We were in Chicago for a weekend and decided to go to the Taste of Randolph. Arriving starving we were looking at all the food on everyone plates as we passed by people. One girl had a shish-kebabs with grilled onions under it. Looked delicious so I asked where I could get one. She pointed me to the tent wit the longest line and said it was the Lamb one and so good. I decided to go for it. The line was long yes but It moved very fast. I ordered the lamb ones and they were SOOO good. I definitely recommend them. Now back in California I wish I had them at my fingertips or get the marinade recipe. I definitely recommend them.

This place is a foodie paradise! Nicholas meats is a mom and pop, no frills, real deal butcher shop. This is where many of the high end restaurants get their meat. If they don’t have something(which is rare) they can order it. You walk to the back and can see the meat in the case as well as meat hanging in the fridge behind the glass. The meat is super fresh, cut to order and a fraction of the cost that you would pay at a grocery store. Best quality, best selection, and best prices. How can you go wrong? There is street parking and during busy times it is packed but well worth the wait. I found out that they open at 6am on weekdays, so I often get up early to get a choice parking spot in the front and can be in and out in 10 minutes. I only buy my meat here now. One example of something I like to buy are whole chickens. I buy 4 fresh whole chicken, have them cut in half and pay about 13 dollars for them all. I used to purchase 2 frozen whole chickens at Costco that I had to cut myself for 10 dollars. The first time I asked for ground beef they asked me if I wanted select, choice or prime beef. I had no idea since you just just pick up any package at the grocery store. They took a beautiful piece of meat out of the case and ground it right there. I was in love! People are blown away with the quality of meat and the cost. Save your pennies and make your belly happy at the same time.

Outstanding, custom cuts of meat… and the«no frills» store is something I get a kick out of. WAY better than Paulina/Whole Foods/Etc. I like to go here when I’m making cheesesteaks because he’ll take the giant ribeye over to the deli slicer and cut it real thin for me so it cooks up quickly. Not to mention that about 4 lbs of great ribeye costs only about $ 8 – 10. Unreal prices. Highly recommended.

Huge selection of fresh meats and a variety of other bulk grocery items like beans, cooking oil, cereal, etc. The meat is fresh and they will cut it to your liking. Only downfall is they don’t accept credit cards. They can get pretty busy they first weekend of the month but they work fast and get you what you need as quick as they can.

Nicholas Meats is a secret of mine, but after what happened yesterday I had to write a review. I went in asking for 4 slabs of baby back ribs. I tild him I was making a special meal and was wondering if he could cut them fresh for me. Not only did he cut them fresh, he also was willing to leave an extra thick layer of tenderloin over the ribs. They are going to be dynamite… as long as I dont screw them up. This is your old school city butcher. Go here if you are a bbq enthusiast and want excellent cuts at a reasonable price. The husband and wife are so friendly if you take just 1 min to say hello and let them know a little about you. All I can say is forget the yuppy over priced meats at Gepherths, Paulina, etc… you can get the same stuff custom cut for a lot less.

I tried the gyros cone at the Taste of Randolph. It was a bit tasty but I wish I would have tried the kabob’s. I definitely will try them again.

Haven’t bought any meat here but, for 3 bucks the pre-made sandwiches aren’t bad for on the go and quick. Many items in bulk available, interesting shish kabobs and specialty meats. Quick and fast service. Cheap! Check it out… it’s next to my favorite produce store N & G.

Every year my roommate and I go to Old St. Pat’s World’s Largest Block party get the kabobs. We always look forward to them and talk about how good they are. It’s always the longest food line at the festival, but we wait patiently in line, because they are sooo good. Anyway, until this year we never actually realized that the kabob stand was an actual place, Nicholas Quality Meats. This year I branched out from the chicken kabob and also tried their rotisserie bbq pork which was delicious. I’m glad to know that the next time I’m craving a great kabob, I don’t have to wait until next summer.
