My fiancée and I decided to choose a restaurant to eat at spontaneously without researching and we decided on coming here. It has that neighborhood, family owned restaurant feel to it. I had a nice meal and the staff was very nice! I wouldn’t say it was my favorite greek place, but it wasn’t the worst either. It fell in the middle. The saganaki was just alright, same with the spankopita dish. My fiancée ordered the Patstitio and it was very rich and filling. It’s BYOB. A decent size inside.

Long time Greek Islands fans, we have finally seen the light! Quality trumps quantity every single time. The saganaki doesn’t need a big presentation to be the best cheese you’ve ever tasted! Tarmousalata is the creamiest I’ve ever tasted, spanakopita melts in your mouth and the pastuchio is simply… heaven! They food is spectacular, the BYOB factor ranks high in my book, and Vicki and Toni complete any visit with their funny commentary, warm interactions, and heart laughs.

We haven’t been here in about a year, but it’s still as good as ever. While there are many good restaurants in Greektown, this is not your Halsted Street Greektown Greek food. So, don’t expect flaming saganaki. The menu is varied, and everything is explained. The pastitsio is superb(it takes about 40 minutes), and so are the shrimp dishes. And don’t forget the orange cake. It’s also a BYO, and prices are fair. Everything is freshly made. The owners/sisters are very cordial and make you feel at home. Can’t wait to go back.

I have been back several times since my last review and introduced many friends and colleagues to Mythos, and everyone loves it. The quality remains consistent and the owners and staff continue to be welcoming and friendly. If anyone reading this hasn’t tried it yet, I strongly recommend heading there for some kolokithokeftedes(squash fritters), pastichio(like lasagna, but better) and loukaniko(sausage). And don’t forget to bring a bottle of(Greek) wine…

My girlfriend and I spent our first Valentines Day here and it was awesome! Great atmosphere, great family owned business and staff… and the chef/co-owner is an incredible cook who really knows old school Greek style cooking. The food is fresh, very good quality and the lamb chops on the bone are the best I’ve ever hsd! Great neighborhood spot!

As others have noted, the pastitsio is a delight. We ordered the zucchini fritters and the dip trio appetizers, and were well pleased with all. We also got beef meatballs: very very good. I was underwhelmed by the honey-mustard pork dish, but that could be a matter of preference. The meatballs and the pork both came with green beans: good flavor but overly greasy. We asked for rice with one entrée, potatoes with the other, and got rice with both. Since no one was particularly curious about the potatoes, we made no mention of it to our server.

While I have been to Mythos many times since my last review, I haven’t posted an update until now. In short, go. Mythos is not only the best Greek restaurant in Chicago but now also one of the most enjoyable places to have dinner in general. The food is first-rate, fresh and very authentically Greek. Very few restaurant owners show as much personal attention to all their guests as Toni(front of house) and Vasso(chef). They make everyone feel welcome and will happily guide you through the menu if you are not familiar with Greek dishes. For something lean, have the lamb chops — they are outstanding and memorable. For something heartier, have pastichio(Greek lasagna), but remember to order as soon as you are seated because each portion is made to order and needs 30 – 45 minutes. Most other places in Greek town simply re-heat a slice, but not Mythos. Also, don’t forget that Mythos is BYOB, so bring a favorite bottle of wine and a group of good friends– you’ll have one of the best meals and you will want to return. Finally note: Toni and Vasso have been on TV again, so it is a good idea to make a reservation, as the restaurant has been consistently packed the past few times we have visited.

Loved it! No need to drive down to Greek town with this jem in the neighborhood. Authentic Greek food at its best! I’ve been to Greece and this is the real deal. Home cooked with love. Fantastic for date night, family dinner, or private party. They will attend to your every need. Mythos has become the top on my night out list! They will not disappoint.

I’m writing this review solely to tell everyone know that their pastitsio is to die for. I’m sorry Greek Town but you are not a contender when it comes to comparing pastitsio’s. This one has bechamel sauce that is so creamy and reminds me of whipped mashed potatoes on top. The restaurant makes you feel like you’re in someone’s home enjoying a home cooked meal. Seriously go here. I’m going to dream about the pastitsio tonight

My friend found this place while searching for a BYOB restaurant for my birthday that would accommodate a large group without expecting a per person minimum. They graciously took the reservation and exceeded my expectations on grouping us together. The food was wonderful. Service was great in the sense that the owner used her staff sufficiently. Rather than having one server for our group, we had 3 and each section of our group was presented 3 separate checks to avoid any confusion with payment. Bravo!!! Four of us wanted the filet mignon dish but they were out of this menu item which kind of weirded us out because it was only 6:30pm, but after realizing it was January 2nd, a Saturday and a day after a holiday, it made sense that they may not have received their delivery. I had the lamb chops which were delightful! Here are things that made my decision not to give 5 stars: 1) We would have loved to have the Saganaki flamed at our table, rather than brought out already done in the kitchen. 2) No Dalmades on the menu 3) Although I loved that each group had their own bill, the servers weren’t consistent in adding gratuity or not. One bill was presented already including the gratuity whereas the others did not so there was a bit of confusion at the end because the table who had it included told the other tables that it was included and we nearly tipped incorrectly. Other than those minor things, I LOVEDTHISPLACE and will be back.

We’ve been to Mythos several times because they do it up right. The two things that matter most to us when dining out are service and food. Toni and Vicky are the perfect combination to excel at both! We’ve traveled quite a bit around the world and have experienced restaurants at all levels. We almost always find that the small neighborhood places are the best. We’ll go back again and again.

The best Greek food ever! This place is a jewel on Montrose, and the owners are the best! They made us feel so welcome and the service was excellent! The best mom and pops place I’ve been to in a while and I will definitely return here. I love this place! Please visit this restaurant! Trust me you will love eating here!

Excellent food and super friendly staff. I highly recommend the bone-in chicken dish. Order one immediately upon arrival since it takes a little longer than the other dishes. Highly recommended!

Feels like I’m sitting in someone’s dining room, not a restaurant, enjoying great conversation, a warm atmosphere, embrace, and most of all good food. Bring your spirit of choice and come enjoy!

We came here last night for dinner and I was honestly blown away! My brother had been there before, and when he suggested going again, I wasn’t all that enthused. He swore to me it was excellent food. We sat down and ordered a ton! We had the Saganaki, Spanakopita and the Loukaniko. All three were excellent, but the Loukaniko(sausage) was SO flavorful and so amazing! We also ordered the greek village salad and it was so light and refreshing with their homemade Tzatziki on the side. To. Die. For. For my entrée, I ordered the half chicken — it takes about 40 minutes so be sure to order it when you place the apps order. My brother ordered the lamp chops and my fiancé ordered the filet. The chicken was honestly the BEST chicken I have ever had in my entire life. It was SOOO flavorful and so moist. The Lamb Chops were also so flavorful and I dont even like lamb. I chowed this down. The topper of the evening, by far, was the Pastitsio. Do not hesitate order this immediately. It was so light and creamy and yet sooo flavorful. I’ve never had anything like it. I will DEFINITELY be back. It is also BYOB, cant beat that!

Greek food outside of Greek Town?!? I was a bit skeptical about coming here, but the fact that it was BYOB got my wine drinking palate and foot in the door. We were greeted by the owner/head chef and I was pleasantly surprised by the attentive service throughout our whole meal. We came here with a group which gave us the opportunity to try a little bit of everything. It was all amazing but if I had to pick just a few that I liked, I’d have to say their zucchini fritters were a great starter. They crispy on the outside but still moist on the inside. The jumbo shrimp and signature chicken dish were my favorite entrees. The chicken takes about 45 minutes so order it as soon as you sit down so it’s ready by the time everyone else’s food comes out.

Greek food is amazing in itself so when my boyfriend said he is going to take me to the best Greek restaurant in town(which is nowhere near Greek town, btw) I just politely smiled, thinking, whatever he had in mind must be good, but I’ve never had bad Greek food. My god was I wrong. I’ve been eating Greek food at the wrong places all along! Without drowning you with a lengthy review I’ll leave it at this– I’ve only had Greek food as good as the one I’ve been served at Mythos when I was actually in Greece. Get the pastichio(maybe even call ahead to reserve it, they can run out!), it will blow your mind.

Skip Greek Town and come to a place that not only has the best Greek food in Chicago but also the friendliest most personable staff. You are treated like family when you are here and almost always the owner or her sister(who cooks) will come out and talk to you. You will see this in other reviews and it’s worth repeating against: Get the Pastichio!!! Never had it? Don’t worry– just get it. Word from the wise: don’t let the outside fool you. This place looks like a whole in the wall with no charm from the outside. They really need some better signage. Once you step in and sit down, you completely forget you are in Chicago. And seriously… skip Greek town.

BEST. GREEK. FOOD. EVER. PERIOD! Honestly, don’t even know where to start … Toni and Vicky are so welcoming and one of the reasons I love to come. talking to Vicky about her AMAZING cooking is always fun! The pastitsio is out of this world. the loukaniko is incredible. the lamb is too die for. I could go on and on … such a gem in the city, and BYOB! My Mom is greek and when I brought her, she said it’s exactly how they cook in Greece. Mythos is purely authentic!

I came here for the first time in 2013 after I had just moved to the area and I was magnificently surprised at the excellent authentic Greek food at this establishment. I LOVE this place and return repeatedly at least twice a month. Toni di Meola and her sister Vicky Zervas are one of the reasons I keep returning; for the wonderfully friendly ambience that makes me feel as though I’m back in my mother’s kitchen. I love it. The food is always astoundingly mouth watering. Vicky even let me in on her secret for preparing the tastiest rice EVER! Thank you Vicky. Let me be honest, this is a family owned establishment(which is BYOB) and its not strange to see Toni’s son as one of the servers or have her daughter pop in. With that being said, the environment is inviting and loving which adds to the magic of beautiful dining. This is by far the best Greek restaurant in Chicago, and I love my Greek food! Taxim is also a favorite but Mythos is far more easy on the pocket. The lamb shanks are their signature food item and the spanakopita is delicious as well A wonderful place for dates and Friday night dinners with friends. Toni and Vicky, your restaurant is the BEST!
