Dear My Pie, I am so sad to hear that you are gone. I know I didn’t visit you as often as I should have. Your insides were like a step back in time to wood paneled pizza parties of my childhood. I hope you are taking the decorations with you to the suburbs. The ambiance only added to your deliciously flavored pizza. I hope that someday, I can visit you again, and it will be just like old times. Love, Jamie G.

I’m going to miss you My Pie. I first got to know you in my late teen years. You were nice enough to rarely card me and serve me PBR with my Pizza. When you did card me, you gladly accepted my fake i.d. even though it stated that I was a African American Viet Nam vet. Through the years my visits were less frequent, but I always craved your deep dish Pepperoni pizza. And when I did visit, the first sip of beer, brought me back to those days in the mid 80’s when I felt like a underage drinking king. Now you are moving to the living hell that is known as suburbia, so I doubt that I will ever see you again. So in the great words of Bob Hope«Thanks for the memories»

Well I can’t believe the news, it’s been while since I went parents house. As a true native of Lincoln Park I am shocked. I have been eating My II pizza since I was 8 years old now I am 36. There where some minor changes over the years but for the most part the essence of what My Pie was about is the same. I spent many weekends playing Galaga in the front while Mark and this other Lady who had Blond hair would supply the quarters for my hours video game fun. But what it was the pizza that made me comes there again over the years, in the old days you have to wait hours to get table and all they where serving was pizza. Most of you don’t know that, but that’s the way it was. In the days when there was not competition My Pie was it, Edwardos, Bacinos, Aurelios, Nancys and so on have nothing on My Pie! I am sad that this location closed and I know that we have the Bucktown Location as an alternative; there is just something about the charm of the old place. It will be missed, now the other location has made it this far, but I worry about the longevity. I have never worked for the establishment but can tell that some of the employees have a rough time with mgmt because of his Napoleon complex. His father may have been a shrewd businessman, but that was displayed in front of the customer. Times are tough and maybe the Clark street location lost what made it so loved. I wish I felt the same way about the Bucktown location, however I glad that I a new generation of people can experience a little bit of heave as long as they stay from Napoleon and just maybe I be able at 65 to say I have been eating this pizza 60yrs. Just a thought!

I am devastated to hear that My Pie is no more. All hail the property owners of today who only care about turning a good profit. A-holes. Anyway, My Pie had really good deep dish pizza, an amazing salad bar, and a great ambiance. I’ll miss the fireplace, I’ll miss hunting for spies while waiting for my pizza, and I’ll miss going to one of the last places that has been around since my childhood. Maybe they’ll totally destroy that great space and put yet another bank there. I don’t think there are nearly enough in a 2 block radius.

I miss you. I miss the fact your sign is still right across the street from me, but i cant walk in, and have your unlimited pizza and salad bar special. I think you moved because of the evil parking garage above you is literally falling apart(and thus… its kicking me out of my garage parking spot for renovations) I hate you parking garage, for getting rid of My Pi, and my convenient parking spot …hearts for My Pi

I had no idea that this place closed down, but it was probably for the best. I had the unfortunate experience of working at this dump for about 2 weeks when I first moved to Chicago. Little did I know that they were only hiring because they were ALWAYS hiring. I was there for two weeks but think I saw the entire wait staff turn over. That being said the food wasn’t too bad. The pizza was decent and they had good wings. If it wasn’t so miserable to be there every day I might have a better opinion. But alas, 2 stars.

First, thank you for using the symbol for Pi. When I was a little girl, there actually was a My Pi in my neighborhood that eventually got torn down to put a freakin’ IKEA. But it was an institution for my family. We went all the time, and it was one of those happy little childhood memories that if I were to draw it, it’d be yellowed on the edges and we’d all be smiling. I completely forgot about My Pi until I visited my buddy in Chicago one weekend and walked out of his apartment to find the Pi symbol beaming in front of me, greeting me like an old, departed soul. And I remember how I used to ask my parents what that symbol meant. And how they would tell me it was«something I would understand later in life.» Teehee. Math. I ran in and ordered my deep dish, I’d presume similarly to how I used to when I was a kid, and one bite took me right back. It tasted delicious, and exactly as I’d remembered it. And I took it all in… wished that the slice would last a little while longer so I didn’t have to call it a day and pay for my food and go. But, alas, everything ends… It’s probably better that I don’t live in Chicago, or at the very least, that I don’t live near a My Pi. I think it serves me well that I have this fantastic adoration for it. It’s like a long lost love that I got to reunite with — and it may have been just that once. And while my heart pangs for it, and I *have* fallen for other slices since, and still will — you never forget your first love. And I just love that Pi symbol.(marketing idea: they should make one of their specials buy one pie, get the next for $ 3.14…)

It’s not hard to figure out why this is one of my favorite places in Chicago to eat by myself. Atmosphere: Panelled walls, wood floors, and the fireplace make me think of my family’s ski chalet. Gorgeous collection of Tiffany lamps. And for a touch of dive-y goodness, they keep their Christmas decorations up all year long. Food: I love love love the sauce, and can handle the crust. The salad bar is pretty damn good, and also has plentiful fruit for dessert. Value: The 10.45 all-you-can-eat pizza buffet — hello! This is the single diners’s dream! Cause a small would be too much, but one slice is too little. And as I am one of those horrible people who do not eat leftovers, it’s good for me to be able to take it home. Service: I will spend hours here reading a book and slowly chomping on a slice, and I’ve never gotten any flack from the servers. They just check in with me once and a while and bring me another hot slice when I need it. I have to say, I am a My Pie fan!

If My Pie were a man, he’d be that boring, pathetic sap that you call up when you’re all broken up, single, and very very bored. You know he’s gonna answer the phone and hear you out. He’s straight forward and easy to get along with. He delivers and has low expectations, so there’s no need to get all glammed up, put effort into yourself, or even leave your home. No sass. No muss. No fuss. There’s really nothing offensive about him… you’re just not THAT into him. You’re not going to rave about the toppings, the flavor, the crust. But, at the end of the day, a girl’s gotta eat… well…pizza every now and then, so I call ‘em up and order.

Who doesn’t love pizza?! Here in Chicago, we do it a special way, unlike no other! This is only for the serious pizza lover… Chicago Style Pizza is not your traditional pizza, but more like a pie. It starts out with a simple, thin layer of dough that’s laid into a deep round pan and pulled up the sides, then parbaked before the toppings are added. The crust is then lined with meats and/or vegetables such as Italian sausage(a Chicago staple), onions and bell peppers, usually under mozzarella cheese. Some restaurants lay on the sausage so thickly that it covers the whole surface of the pizza, like a giant sausage disk(amazing, huh?!). Then a layer of seasoned crushed tomatoes goes on top of it all and the pizza is baked to perfection. The delicious end result is a deep-dish pizza which is often eaten with a knife and fork, since its thick gooeyness makes it messy to eat with your bare hands. The exception is when it’s eaten cold the next day for breakfast(the way I prefer!). My Pie is our fave place for pizza and their really fresh soup & salad bar. The best part? We took advantage of the nightly special for all-you-can-eat soup/salad bar and pizza for less than $ 10. We’ve been here numerous times and haven’t been disappointed. We even celebrated my husband’s birthday here with a large group, which the restaurant accomodated perfectly. Service has always been pleasant, food excellent and their nightly take out specials are always a great perk if you live within walking distance.

Im torn between 3 and 4 stars. I went to My Pie a few weeks ago, and got a chicago style and a thin pizza to go. I was starving so I grabbed a slice of the thin style before i left the restaurant and it was heavenly delicious. When i got home, i tried the deep dish and frankly, it was awful. The dough was just ‘thick’. Not thick and chewey, not tasty. I dont know how to describe it other than to say it was just there. The sauce was ok, and cheese just tasted like a brick of stringy nothing. So I went back to the thin pie, which was pretty good. But oddly, as I ate it, and as time went by, its like it transformed. It went from delicious to positively horrendous as it cooled. The texture of the cheese went to completely rubbery, and the crust became like almost a brittle cardboard. So my final recommendation is– get the thin pizza, and eat it IN the restaurant(not take out) and dont take too long to eat it. If you do all that, its delicious!!!

I’ll be honest. I don’t remember if my pizza was good(i think i was too drunk). I don’t remember if they had a great beer selection(probably too high). But I do remember the ambience. Think Bavarian ski chalet meets Elvish hideaway. No windows, stained glass, huge fireplace in the middle of room. So cool! Definitely not something you think when you think of Chicago. If you find yourself in the area, it’s definitely worth a stop. Even if some of the pizza snobs on here don’t think the pizza is that great(come on, how badly can you screw up a pizza), it’s worth a visit just for the atmosphere!

I’ve dined in once and have once used the buy-one-get-one carryout special between 9 – 9:30 p.m. I recommend you dine in only because it tastes better freshly presented in front of you, as opposed to boxed up and delivered to your palate 15 minutes later. Oh yeh, you can also sketch on the walls and booths throughout the entire restaurant … ya know, if you’re into that sorta thing. Anyway, the sauce is always seasoned well, crust is always crispy(thin and pan), buttery, and garlicky. The crust and sauce are the two most unique things about My Pie’s pizzas. Its crust is like a garlic-parmesan cracker made with butter. Very thin and very good. Unlike most reviewers, I was slightly disappointed in my pizza from the pan. I ordered a spinach and mushroom pan pizza. Mushrooms were from the can! Ugh. Although I prefer a thicker pan pizza, I was open to the new taste of a thin pan pizza. I recommend they at least add more ingredients(i.e. spinach) so the pizza isn’t outweighed by the slightly thicker crust. The good news is the crust has the same flavor as its garlic-parm thin brother… The bad news is I sometimes got tired of the crust. I enjoy bits and pieces of intense flavor in my entrees rather than robust butter-garlic-parm flavors in every bite. I recommend the thin over the pan because it has less crust and a higher toppings to crust ratio. Also, the service always falls short of good. My gf and I waited at least 5 minutes each time(carryout and dine-in) before we were given any attention by the waiters or cashier. It seems like more of an understaffing problem to me. In summary: overpowering crust good sauce, maybe not enough of it good thin crust canned mushrooms not enough toppings on the pan pizza below average service great carryout special(buy 1, get 1 free daily, call-ins between 9 – 9:30 p.m.) if dining in, bring a silver/white marker or knife to claim your spot on the numerous spots in the restaurant for graffiti

Ok, let me preface this by stating that Giordanos sucks. Get over it. Gino’s, Uno, Due, and Pequod’s are loads better, and so is My Pie. I’ve only been to the lincoln park location, which reminds me of pizza places I would go to as a kid: kind of dark, dank, and cool. I really don’t mind the atmosphere at all. It’s a little mysterious. Who could be lurking in that dark booth in the back? Brangelina? Mobsters? The mind reels. They have a pretty good selection of beers by the pitcher and the pizza is AWESOME. The crust has this lacy bit of cheese on the top which is to die for. It’s not too gooey like giordano’s can be and it has a reasonable amount of cheese on the deep dish, not overload like some places. The sauce and toppings always taste fresh and we’ve never waited long for service. You just gotta love this place! the only thing i would say is a downer is the salad bar. I think they should get rid of it. it’s nothing special and reminds me of a buffet restaurant like shakey’s or ryan’s. blech. sneeze guards just don’t do it for me i guess. i prefer for people to BRING me salad. actually, salad is really not that high up on my list. It’s makes me too full for pizza.

I agree with Ryan — this is better than Giordanos(admittedly good for stuffed). I grew up in the area(I am talking 70s, pre gentrification) and haven’t had their pizza in a looong time. This is one of the few establishments that still remains on the ever changing landscape of Clark St. Visit last week was great. Thin and pan was delish. The CRUSTISAWESOME, indescribable. I will return, sooner this time. True, dining room is dark and without my glasses, I needed the candle light to see the menu! =c)

Fact: My Pie is better than Giordano’s. Fact: I was not born nor raised in Chicago and can make obscene statements about your pizza. Fact: My Pie is still better than Giordano’s.

The pizza is cheap and on some nights an hour before closing(I think) its ½ price pizza. Its OK pizza. Nothing you would go out of your way for. The salad bar is more attractive than the appetizers. Beer is blah. Inside: Not too attractive. Lots of wood. Tables, chairs, décor. Not so comfortable. Last time I was there they had a Foosball table. Its hard to notice, located just near the front entrance around a wood divider. If I knew you were headed in that direction would I send you there? No. Cab it elsewhere. If you are lactose intolerant or even mildly, the cheese will really pain you.

Pizza was decent at best. Everything else was just… sad to me. We ordered the stuffed pizza. The crust is similar to Lou Malnati’s, and the sauce is excellent(I am not sure what is in it, but it tastes much different than most other pizza sauces I’ve had), but I was sorely disappointed in our overall meal. The crust was not very thick, and it was actually much thinner in some spots. Same goes for the toppings. One half of the pizza tasted great and the other was very similar to a thin-crust pizza/Weight Watchers«it’s better for you but really we cut out ½ the amount of cheese and toppings on it» type of meal. I like it thick and juicy, and it was more like floppy and naked. We also ordered the spicy garlic bread at a nominal $ 1.95. Seriously, spicy garlic bread??? Amazing — reminds me of some stuff I used to get at home. Unfortunately, we ended up with cheese garlic bread at the $ 4.00 something price. WITHOUTKNOWING. Argh. Maybe it is GrubHub’s fault, but this place should have updated their menu online.

Two for one deal is pretty sweet. Kind of not so sweet that you have to pick up the pizza yourself. But that’s okay. They were fast, man, finished right when they said they would, and the server was polite and efficient; friendly to boot. Pizza was good, although I gotta agree with some past remarks about the mushrooms being canned. Gross. And the Lincoln Park location doesn’t have pesto sauce, which is rather orgasmically good with a thin crust parmesan pizza. Décor looks like my Uncle Joe designed it(he loves that fake wooden paneling. And RV’s). Salad bar looks like biohazardous waste. Stick with the pickup and delivery options, and you’re good to go, peeps.

My 3.14159265 has good thin crust pizza. They don’t do NY-style, so their thin crust is really medium crust and was a little dry around the edges, but I would order it again. The house salad was also quite generous, standard house with veggies. The thing is… I don’t eat meat, my husband does. So we usually order half veg, half with meat. And from my Pi, his half accounted for at least 2⁄3 of the pizza, which would explain why he has suggested ordering from here at least once a day for the past week. So, whoever is in the kitchen starving the vegetarians of the world, I will hunt you down and feed you Tofurkey until you beg for mercy. And then we will have a little lesson on fractions.
