Just happened to be in the area and thought we’d stop in. Definitely not what the kids and I expected! Food was good and reminded me of a decent home cooked meal. Very nice personnel too. Check out the Mather’s website for full details on the business model and who they typically cater too. Love what they do and what they offer. It is more than just a café. With that said, it is probably not a place that would appeal to the younger generation.

It’s not a «foodie» kind of place, but humanity here means so much more than the food serves at the café. I was on the way to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago at Rosemont to pick up a set of necklaces for one of my friends. However, anticipating the mall wouldn’t be open by the time I arrived at the mall, I recalled passing by this place some time ago. After exiting the CTA Harlem(O’Hare branch) Blue Line station, we headed east on Higgins. Within a two(2)-minute walk, we were there. The hours on Saturdays are 0900 to 1400, and the kitchen will stop taking orders fifteen(15) minutes before the closing time. As soon as we walked into the entrance, hubby and I were slightly confused about what this place was. A nice older lady told us that the kitchen was open. We quickly figured out that the entire venue was a combination of café and community center. Another friendly older lady took our orders and the cook in the kitchen was very down to earth. He explained to me that he would be using the«ginger powder» for the pancakes instead of slices of fresh ginger. I told him I would give it a go… no problem. We had the regular oatmeal, gingerbread pancakes, two(2) serving of bottomless coffee for under $ 10. I believe they do accept credit cards, but we had cash on hand. The«patrons» who were hanging out at the café seemed to be regulars. One of the older gentlemen, Jack, introduced himself to us and was funny to talk to. Personally, I think it’s a place where the members in the local community come together. That’s probably why they coined themselves«Mather’s More Than a Café!» Attention Mather’s: I enjoyed my experience here this morning. Nevertheless, the« Unilocal» business page appeared to be outdated and the URL was no longer active. In order to be successful with your mission in outreaching the Norwood Park neighborhood and other neighborhoods in the proximity, having to list current business hours and website will definitely provide a significant boost. This«café,» in the end, has been approved to be legit… very, very legit.

I was a little surprised to walk into a café aimed at seniors, but was glad for it. MMTAC is a non-profit café that not only has an incredibly inexpensive menu(think seniors menu, but very fresh food, aimed at breakfast and lunch crowd) and has extensive programs for seniors to participate in and stay alert and active. They also have free wifi. With the prices and the safe, friendly, clean atmosphere, this place is ideal for a college student to get homework done. No one bugs you, the food is good, you bus your own table, no tips. They are right off the Harlem blue line(at the end of the block with a good TBK), and have their own parking lot in the back. The place is friendly, and a good place to work away from home in the morning. Parking lot plowed on snow days.

Didn’t really realize what we were walking in to but pleasantly surprised! I had a skillet with veggies and ham with a side of French toast. Husband had a skillet of I don’t know what with pancakes. Fresh ingredients and great prices. And it’s all for a good cause! Nothing to complain about.

I received some coupons in the mail from the restaurant. When I went there, I realized it was for the over 55 club. I am over 55, but I don’t consider myself a senior citizen. The place offers much for people to do and everyone seemed to know each other. The staff is friendly. The food is cheap and good. Give this place a try.
