Mariano’s

I’ve given this location more than enough chances, sometimes things just happen but this stores been open for a while now and they should know better. Other mariano’s seem to be a bit more deluxe than this one. I agree with other comments, they just threw some new paint on the walls and that’s about it. Oh yeah new artsy crates in produce… so what.
Remember when they first opened they thought they were the greatest thing ever to hit the southwest side. It’s all about location, besides jewels there really isn’t any decent grocery stores in the area. If they threw in an Ultra Foods, it would be just as busy.
I’ve definitely seen expired food on the shelves, which is shocking. There are never employees around to ask for help anymore. You can usually see them huddled somewhere gossiping.
Everytime I get home I find my tomato and avocados at the bottom of the bag and needing to always call to complain about that, isn’t that Bagging 101?
The other week as I was checking out and the register stalled and the night manager (short hair with some pink on top) couldn’t get it to work. No big deal but how about a simple apology for the inconvience of now taking everything to the next register. Just common Courtesy. Instead she ordered the girl that was trying to ring us up to move our things. Rude.
Night management needs customer service training courses apparently.
I miss the old dominicks… before all the employees went bitter about everything.

This was a dominicks for many years, and they left, it was good to see that Mariano’s took its place. I don’t shop here except for a few things because Mariano’s is pricier than food4 less, however, I like having nearby options and Mariano’s has a better meat and seafood selection. Plus they have seasonings I can’t typically find at food 4 less near me.

I’m a huge proponent of Mariano’s expanding in the city and especially in my neck of the woods, and I shop here at least biweekly, but I must say Roundy’s and co. missed the mark on this location. It seems like the stores constructed in, well, wealthier or whiter parts of town were beautifully built from scratch, where this one they just painted over all the old Dominick’s crap.
Mariano’s as a company has great products, though, and aside from one staff member at this location that is a constant problem, I welcome these new stores to Chicago and the McKinley Park area!

This place is awesome! Way better then the Dominick’s that’s used to be there. The hot foods is so delicious and the freshly squeezed juice is so good.

This place could be awesome if they only learned that 5 items or less does not include morphodites with full carts of groceries thereby making this checkout point useless. I have walked out of this store several times and put my two items wherever was closest. This store obviously lacks credible management. This problem is ongoing and like a cancer. Everybody is cleaning up at 8:00PM and far too busy to wait on customers without grocery carts full of items. Two hours before closing. Horrible!

Wonderful location. One of my go to grocery stores in the area! Prices are in line with Jewel. Great selection of fruits and vegetables. Employees are friendly and courteous — you are always greeted on entry. I’ll keep shopping here!

It’s my local Mariano’s grocery store I love shopping at this location. The butcher, named John, is great he knows his stuff. I was able to order a bone-​in-​beef– standing rib roast with no problems. The beef roast was nicely trimmed and tied to perfection. It made my life a lot easier when I got home to cook it the oven.
I say come check out your local Mariano’s if you have not done it. They have great customer service comparable pricing on their products and delicious ready made food.

I like the layout and offerings of this store, though I only shop here for regular groceries occasionally — the prices are a bit out of our budget at this time. I love the produce, especially.
The bulk of this review is for the florist department. I’ve used it twice in the past month. Both times the women staffing it were fantastic. They were kind and helpful, going above and beyond what I had requested. They were especially sweet with my 3-​year-​old daughter, engaging her in conversation and showing her how they did the work. The flower selection is varied and lovely. There are pre-​made arrangements or enough choices to make your own.

This is a scaled down version of my two favorite Mariano’s but the staff was pretty nice. The Organic fruit/​veggie section was a bit of a letdown but overall, I appreciate having the option.

Typical grocer store… except they have samples!!! Yay for samples! These samples have actually convinced me to buy a few of their products (ex: cheese, hummus, apple cider). The store is very well organized and is usually pretty clean.
It is never really busy whenever I come and there is free parking. Prices are pretty comparable to Jewel Osco and they have many more options than other grocery stores, especially organic products.
Great store if you live in the area and are wanting to have many options product wise.

Garbage store! Employees are conceited pricks who look at you like they are better than you or somehow know you already. They are stupid and ignorant. Probably watched a ton of tv and think they know how the world works. Sad, pathetic creatures.
Prices are also too high. Get your lousy store out of my neighborhood, you pretentious losers. Bring back a Jewel-​Osco without the stinking attitude that your employees throw at their customers.
Customer service — specifically cashier attitude = garbage.

I really love the Mariano’s location on S. Halsted; this one has some serious work to do. The produce is DISGUSTING. I was here most recently on Friday evening, and the cilantro was so dry and yellow and wilty I couldn’t find any worth buying. The rainbow chard was all limp and rubbery. Old Brussels sprouts rolling around in the bin — no fresh veggies to be found in the fresh produce section here! The fresh herb and spices selection is similarly filled with a bunch of dead plants they should be embarrassed to have on display. Decent liquor selection. Not up to snuff with the Mariano’s brand I know!

My review is for my experience with the Pharmacy. Our family has been filling our meds at this pharmarcy over the years, since the time when they were managed by Dominicks. We have tried other pharmacies in the city such as Walgreens, CVS and Target. This is our favorite pharmacy.
The staff here is very courteous and caring. I also would like to point out that on many occasions the staff goes beyond their normal duties to help us out; they gave us helpful advice concerning our medication options, something that we did not get from the other pharmacies. Working with our doctor, we were able to switch to better, more suited medications for my parents. Their valuable suggestions also help reduce my mom’s medication copay. The experience we receive from this pharmacy has been extraordinary. We feel they treat us more than just customers. If I may, I would like to applaud these excellent employees working at this Pharmacy. Mae, Grace, Alexandra and Brianna… You guys are the best. Thank you!

Numerous occasions where purchased items are opened at home only to find stale, poor quality and even rotten! Previously only found in produce and some cheese, most recently in butter that was sealed and had an expiration date of May 2015. The item was purchased in December of 2014. I will be uploading a picture as well… Mariano’s senior leadership really needs to reassess the management talent of this store as it does not seem to be up to par with what I’ve experienced at other locations.

I wanted to be a hater, I even had a boycott going because they were supposed to open up in my neighborhood and ended up opening in the sloop. Well after they announced the location coming to 39^th and MLK I decided to end my protest.
This location used to be Dominick’s so it still has that feel, however I’d call it a Dominick’s on steroids. The salad/​hot bars are clean and have more items. I’m generally not a fan of anything buffet style that the public can get their hands into. But in a pinch I’ll give some of it a try. I did try their 6 $ Chicken Pot pie, a completely packaged item, and found it to be very good. Lots of chicken and veggies and not swimming in gravy, I like it to be moist, but not looking like you need to throw it a life preserver. We used to buy the one at Costco, not only does everything float around in it, it’s too salty and too big, (but that’s Costco it has to be big) this one is right for one person, or better yet eat a salad with it and split it for two or into a second meal.
The produce looks good, and can save you an extra trip to the produce market, it may be a few shekels more but what is your time, gas money or pedal power worth?
I can’t wait for the one to open up by my house so I can walk or ride my bike to it, can’t wait to see what they do building a store from ground up. We do have a Jewel nearby, yet they still call this a food desert, it’s because the Jewel isn’t really good and people here end up shopping outside of the neighborhood. My hope is that this doesn’t put Jewel out, but it gets them to clean up there act and compete. There are enough residents in the area to support both.
I’m glad Bridgeport/​McKinley got there store and didn’t end up without options, and if I’m coming home from that direction even after ours is built I’ll support it because they did a good job with it

I had a wonderful experience at Mariano’s. As soon as I walked in I was hit with tons of fresh produce (ummmm not literally) and the fact that I came in in the evening and yet it was still stocked up with hot foods at their salad bar was really nice to see. As I walked around I did notice that someone was always stocking up their aisles with even more items, as soon as it was taken by a customer. That to me says a lot of any establishment because it shows a real dedication to the consumer on so many levels. Big clap of hands to the workers who are dedicated.
Many of their isles are packed with items that are hard to find in other places so of course that will bring me to come back over and over. Nice displays, vibrant colors all over and great customer service will always make me come back. And the fact that the girl bagging, offered to help me register for a points plus Mariano’s card was nice. As busy as she was she still helped out.

I know a lot of people in the area was excited to have a Mariano’s in the neighborhood and kept wondering when it would open. Once it opened, a lot of people were disappointed since it took so long and it felt like a Dominick’s still.
Everything like the gelato, grill station are smaller than the other Mariano’s. I don’t recall seeing sushi available. They just sell the fresh juice on the shelves.
I was a bit disappointed too, but still glad to have this in the neighborhood.
Workers are friendly.

So my sister-​in-​law brought me here to get flowers for my mom. I was kind of blown away by their selections & the friendliness of their staff. I know they’re all new, as they had just opened & that they may not be this friendly come a few months from now, but I was still wowed by that.
Their bakery area was phenomenal. I couldn’t get over how pretty their decorated pastries were. They also offered items I could usually only find at Whole Foods. It was pretty nice. Their selection of cooked items that you could eat were grand! This is a total welcome to the old neighborhood! I wish they had this near me!

It’s brand new! It’s nice! I really like our new neighborhood Mariano’s!
I visited early in the morning, just after 7am. There were only a few other shoppers in the store beside myself, but chipper & friendly employees were everywhere. I was greeted by security as I walked up to the front door, then handed a flier with specials as soon as I stepped inside. I had walked maybe 5 feet (almost zombie-​like towards that BEAUTIFUL display of gelato purposefully placed right there by the front door…) when another bright & cheerful employee offered me a sample of fresh orange juice.
I quickly grabbed a decaf iced Americano at the Vero Coffee & Gelato café (delicious!) then proceeded to mill about & shop. It was so nice shopping so early in the morning; no crowds & fresh fresh fresh items that have not been picked over. I eyed the salad bar & everything looked great. I was happy to see a large organic produce display, & I even found the organic baby food I was looking for. No need to drive further out of the neighborhood for quality organic products!
Our new Mariano’s replaced the Dominick’s store that used to fill this space, so this Mariano’s is definitely smaller than other ones I’ve visited around the city. I definitely noticed the absence of cute places to sit & eat fresh items, & I wondered about their beer & booze selection as I didn’t make it over to that side of the store. When I do, I will certainly report back! Momma wants a tasty brew while she shops, & at other Mariano’s around the city, I have enjoyed a cold, freshly poured beer with my shopping.
I welcome Mariano’s to our neighborhood, & I think it’ll be a very nice addition to our selection of grocery stores. I was impressed by all the friendly employees, how clean everything looked, how nicely everything was displayed, & also the visible presence of security guards at the doors. I enjoyed my first visit, & look forward to more!

This Mariano’s is a bit smaller than the other ones that I’ve been to. Today was their grand opening and it was bustling with shopping carts going in all directions. It was definitely crowded, but despite the overload of customers, Mariano’s managed to keep everything clean, tidy, and efficient. I was in line waiting to pay for my groceries and a Mariano’s staff assisted me to a shorter lane for a quicker check out.
