What a great way to spend a evening, good movie and even better people to discuss it with afterwords so my partner had been talking about us going on a date to a movie, I was like ok what ever he has good taste so it should be fine, but then he posts link to the film series on Facebook and says this is where we are going we are gonna see«all about my mother» a film I have been wanting to see for a while now but had not gotten around too so I look into it some more and read the reviews and what not and we pack up some blankets and snacks as it is outdoors(now indoors for winter) an we head out early to get dinner before the show, found a great Puerto Rican place just around the corner, we had a nice dinner then went looking for the place for the show, not knowing it was in a personal residence we circled the block a couple times, but luck would have it they had put a sign on the front gate we had a great time was fun and a good core group of people I am sure we will be back for more as they are doing this every Sunday check out there Facebook page next show is the 14th of Nov so Grab some Beer whine or sodas maybe gummy bears and come out and see some Indy film and have fun discussing them afterwords

Things I should have done before committing to attend and adding this to my mental calendar: *Read the review of the venue. *Decided if I would be comfortable watching a movie at a stranger’s residence. As it turns out, I did commit to attend, but when my companion and I turned down Medill and realized we were in a residential area, I was puzzled and got a little skittish. I can’t say the organizers kept this a secret, since there is in fact a review stating that this is on someone’s patio, but I guess I had different expectations for something with a title, logo, and web site.

Trust me, you want to go to here. My inaugural experience at this event was on June 20th, and it was wonderful. The host — Peter K. — is as gracious as they come. Seating is on chairs or blankets or whatever you bring to sit on on a lovely outdoor ground-level patio, next to a sweet flower and rock garden. Alisa made beef and veggie burgers for those who requested them, and chips and refreshments were abundantly provied. BYO whatever, including a community spirit! The movie I saw — Ingmar Bergman’s «Persona» in DVD format — was projected onto a big screen, and it was absolutely awesome to watch this phenomenal film outside, on a big screen, underneath the stars, surrounded by local film lovers, strangers and friends. I think there were easily 20 people in attendance on June 20th, all seated fairly close together, some huddled comfortably on a blanket, gazing up, in quiet awe(this film is truly amazing). Some attendees were friends of the hosts, some just heard about the event word of mouth, others saw it advertised on a flier. It was great to see so many different sorts of people hanging out together, enjoying the summer evening and remarkable film. I’d almost love it if this event stayed the best-kept secret in Chicago, because the tight-knit community vibe — replete with post-movie socializing! — was such an enchanting aspect of the experience. Still, you have to give it away to keep it, so I must in all earnestness and honesty highly recommend this event to anyone who likes 1) very good foreign films, 2) gracious hosts and 3) community-forming. This is a superior and unique movie-watching experience, and I couldn’t be fonder.
