I am a novice powerlifter, and Lance’s Gym has given me everything I’ve needed to get stronger. Not only does this place have all the right equipment and specialty stuff for accessory work, but it also has great people. Lance himself is a 1000+ lb. squatter but is still easily able to dial it back for somebody as new as I am to give solid advice to help me get stronger. Further, many of the diverse set of people who work out there treat the gym members as extended family. Need a heavy lift-off on bench or a pro-quality spot? Within a week of working out there I had the numbers of several different folks who live within 5 minutes of the gym and are happy to pop by and help out. That’s the sort of community you don’t get at a big box gym and a big part of what separates Lance’s from the other south side gyms. Oh, that and it’s shockingly inexpensive(especially for more than one month), quick to get to for southsiders, and has abundant free parking.

I took a membership at lance’s in the early summer and could not be more happier with that decision. A fancy gym with hot-birkram yoga and tai-chi it is not. However what it does has is alot of different free weight and weight machines soley for weight lifting and building muscle mass. Great for that, not so good for anything else. Lance is very nice guy and owner and can deal some very good tips and techniques. Take my advice you want to go somewhere close to bridgeport\mckinley park for a good weight lifting workout? Take spin at Lance’s(I think he’ll let you try it once for free).
