Save yourself a whole lot of headache and DON’T rent from Kristalex. My roommate and I lived at 937 W. Cornelia and it was an unbelievable nightmare. In the time we lived here, there has been a string of robberies in the building(over a half dozen) and the management never found it necessary to tell anyone about their safety being threatened. Also Kristalex rented one of the apartments to a group of FBI most wanted criminals and there was an FBISTING to bust them! Also no mention from the management company. After all the burglaries, they didn’t even change the locks! Not to mention our original manager at Kristalex mysteriously«killed herself,» with lots of suspicion pointing to the owner and building manager, who are some of the most SHADY people around. Whatever you do AVOID Kristalex like the plague, save yourself the nightmare!

For the sake of your own sanity, please do not rent any property from Kristalex. We moved into our apartment on W Gunnison last fall and it was DISGUSTING when we took it over. After numerous attempts to have someone come in and clean it up, we gave up and did it ourselves. The management company is completely unresponsive. On numerous occasions we had to over exaggerate the degree of the problem in order to get the 1 and only building manager they have to check it out. And when he did finally show up, it was usually without notifying us before or after. Problems we’ve had include a leaking, bubbling, mold-producing ceiling that wasn’t fixed for 5 months, ants in the laundry machines, little to no shower pressure, inadequate electricity causing the breaker to trip several times a week, and just overall poor building maintenance. The entire basement area looks like a war zone, with random junk and fallen ceiling rubble everywhere. I almost feel like a hard hat should be worn at all times down there. The laundry equipment is constantly in need of repair. You’re better off renting from somewhere else.

I lived in a building on Damen that was managed by Kristalex. The apt was infested with bugs(cockroaches or «Water Bugs»). They management was very helpful at first… Then it took longer to return my phone calls. Linda, the manager, was often rude. Matt, the maintenance person, while nice, often entered my apt without notice. The bugs stayed, and I moved out at the end of my lease.

I lived in a building on Gunnison managed by Kristalex Group and it was the best apartment experience I have had in Chicago! The apartment was lovely and well kept as was the building. The value of the apartment was perfectly in line, I felt the rent was very fair. I worked with Linda at Kristalex and she was always SO helpful and quick to respond. I had to leave my lease early due to planning and timing for moving into my house. I decided to try to find a subletter(something I had never done before) and Linda was so helpful in giving me the information I needed. Once I did find a subletter Linda communicated to me constantly on what was going on so I could stay informed on the process. If I ever had to rent again I would go straight to Kristalex! Beautiful apartments, fair rent, wonderful customer service! 5STARS!

I lived at 4524 N Damen, which was managed by Kristalex Group, for a year and a half. It was my first apartment in Chicago, and probably the best case scenario I could have asked for. It was an amazing studio, very good price, and excellent management. I worked with Michael at Kristalex, who was very funny. He always returned calls quickly and was flexible about extending my lease when I wasn’t sure what to do. Matt, who was the maintenance guy for the building, always went more than out of his way to help out if we needed something, cigarette in hand, of course, but nonetheless extremely helpful. Move out was easy, and Matt even let us borrow his little cart to assist with the millions of boxes. I miss this little place and would definitely rent with Kristalex again.
