Let me start off by saying this is a very small place. The service is a little slower than most places. But I believe that is because the food is cooked fresh and made to order. They have hard wood chairs. So if that is going to bother you take your food to go. Now, let me tell you how good the food is. I am the one that posted the pictures of the fried pork chops and the smothered pork chops. I went there with my cousins and we all loved our food. Two of my cousins had enough food to take home for lunch the next day. I can’t say enough about how good the food was and the peach cobbler was good also. I’m actually going back there tonight.

The service is poor I agree with fellow Unilocalers, walked in and a customer acknowledged me before an actual employee. I ordered the catfish blackened which ok nothing special, I could’ve made myself. The Mac n cheese was watery, not cheesy or tasty didn’t remind me of good homemade Mac n cheese. The greens were tasty n somewhat seasoned, yams were not sweet & the desserts don’t get me started. The chocolate cake was dry, banana pudding tasted artificial. My 1st and last time @ this place point blank.

OMG!!! «Ain’t nobody got time fa dat» I’m just saying, we live in beautiful Chicago! There are many many many restaurants. This place says«Southern Comfort Food», I was so upset with my second visit, there was nothing comfortable about the place. The owners are not business people they are simply about the money and being PROBLACK to get our money… I’m just saying, if I’m hungry I will go to a purple mans establishment & if the purple mans food is cold, I will tell them to run me my damn money back or fix the problem. Do you know they had the nerve to be upset that I calmly told them that my food was cold. Mr. Eric tried to make it better… He told me to come In the following day for a complimentary meal, when I got there the wife began to rant and rave about how we(black) treat our own people wrong and she is wasting money giving me a complimentary meal and that she’s not going to honor her husbands decision and guess what, she didn’t. She hollered at me as if i was a child. After this face to face conversation she told me ok she would honor his decision then went to the back to tell the poor cashier/waitress that she wouldn’t and left the cashier to deliver the message… wth… so i ask to speak to her again, when she came to the eating area I was speaking with a customer so she avoided saying anything to me, instead she told told the cashier to follow through with Mr. Eric’s decision… OK my friends listen up, the witches final offer which I was prepared to take advantage of because of the inconvenience and the lack of professionalism was my daughters would eat half off and I would eat free… Well when she learned that my youngest daughter is 9 so her price is half off already and would now only be $ 4.50 she screamed in the kitchen HELLNAW!!! i returned the out burst, HELLNAW? along with give me all my money back… As I was saying that she was saying you can take your food to go and you don’t have to return… I told her to give me my $ 15 bucks back and to keep her damn food… It was pure ridiculousness!!! By the way, the husband was in the kitchen and was forbidden to come out!!! He was more embarrassed by his wife’s behavior then the situation, I’m sure. Funny thing was I thought he and I solved the problem the day before. I even tried to explain to the wife is wasn’t worth discussing again… But she wanted confrontation… At the end of the day white, green, yellow or blue restaurant owners should all have good customer service skills and be able to handle constructive criticism!!! & none of them should serve cold food!!! especially if you arrive 15 minutes after you order, the order taker told me it would take 20min… Iona lost me as a customer!!! I came far as hell 2days in a row and wasted my damn gas… WTH… Karma is a Muther Mr. Eric’s Wife!!!

Kept passing this place on my way back and forth to the train and so I decided to give it a try. How can I put this fairly? Well, when they’re «on» they’re firing on all cylinders (the shrimp caesar is to die for) however more often than not, they are out of ingredients OR they’re aren’t open when the sign on the door says they should be OR they’re completely indifferent to you. As good as my salad was the first time, the second time it didn’t quite measure up. Maybe when they figure it out, they’ll start running this place like the great busines it could be.

I visited for lunch today with a girlfriend. We ordered fish, blackened and fried, plus sides. I had greens and sweet potatoes; she had the fried green tomatoes and smothered potatoes. We both shared. My favorites were the catfish and the greens. Next time I will definitely try the green tomatoes. The place is small, but I thought the service was excellent. Plus it was super clean and neat. We thought the portions were generous too. We met the owner, and I can’t imagine he would ignore customers intentionally. Overall it is certainly a place I would recommend to others. Also parking is on the street but very convenient.

I’ve passed this place a zillion times and said one day I’d stop in. It’s a small soul food spot located on the corner. It has small seating area for those who want to dine in and everything is cooked to order. I finally did and wasn’t too thrilled with my food. I called ahead for pick up. The service was okay. The young lady who rang me up seemed nice enough. The price to portion radio is a bit high especially for the dessert. I ordered smothered pork chops, greens, candied yams and banana pudding. They were out of macaroni. Oh well. Anyway, to make a long story short, the pork chops and greens were too salty. The pork chops were less smothered and more like pork chops with a little gravy on top. The yams tasted like they were out of the can and overcooked. The banana pudding was not bad but it didn’t do it for me. I might give them another chance because they also have fried green tomatoes but that will be it.

Enjoying a Mango Salad… Oh thats right they dont have that here… Horrible Service… Stood there for 5+ mins no1 even acknowledged our presence… 5 people behind the counter INCLUDING the owners and none said hi. I thought we caught a break when some one asked if were being taken care of, we kindly said no, and she sauntered off as if she didnt care. 3 mins later i’d had enough… We left… They did have the nerve to great the people who came in through the door we held the door open for! In shock we left and went to Qdoba!

I have heard good things about the dinners, but I have only been for breakfast. Very good! Smothered potatos, creamy grits and a REAL mug of coffee.

If you drive too fast down 95th street you will definitely miss this place because although it’s on the corner it’s been several other restaurants over the last few years. Iona’s is exactly what that area needs. They serve breakfast all day and have a Sunday brunch in which they serve rib tips, catfish, mac and cheese, candied yams and baked and fried chicken. I haven’t tasted the buffet but while I was there I noticed a family that seemed to be enjoying every bite. I went to Iona’s before church on a Sunday and ordered a waffle with potatoes and eggs. The owner-Eric was extremely nice and started a conversation with me from the kitchen as he cooked the food. I liked the fact that he asked was I in a rush and let me know that my order would take 10 minutes because they were preparing the buffet. I must admit the waffle was not topnotch but the potatoes and eggs were good. The waitress was nice and the prices were average. Iona’s offers a wide variety of breakfast choices including salmon croquettes, waffles and grits. Iona’s has a really cozy and comfortable feel. The only downfall was that several items were not ready when the buffet started so patrons had to wait. Otherwise I have no complaints. I definitely want to try the Sunday buffet
