Great old neighborhood bakery. Very good prices and an old school feel.

So glad that I’ll be moving to the neighborhood soon. We stopped in this morning after signing our lease. Picked up two coffees, two breakfast pastries, and a sausage pizza bread to take home for lunch and our bill was only $ 12! Everything was delicious. Can’t wait to return.

This place holds a special place in my heart, my grandmother lived here for many years above the bakery before there was a fire. The smell of my grandmothers house literally was that of a bakery. Anyway, shout out to my gram who also made killer chicken soup. The bakery itself is clean and has a variety of goods including pizza and a a fontanella cheese bread. They are both really good. You must try their chocolate cake donuts and they make really reasonably priced quality birthday cakes. The apple and cherry slices are also a must have. Don’t forget the coffee cakes.

Impallaria reminds me of all the surprisingly affordable neighborhoody New England bakeries i grew to love when i was in Providence, that for whatever reason also sell pizza, calzones, Italian goodies, and seem to specialize in donuts but don’t have any indoor seating. LOVE their super early hours, and the fact that even when i’m there right at 5am, there are always people pouring in and out like the rest of Chicago isn’t still sleeping for another hour at least. obviously the donuts here are insane, but their cupcakes, zeppoles, and other desserts are also great – just not a fan of the sausage and bacon buns which tend to run a little dry.

I trekked down to Impallaria on a Sunday morning to try their apple fritter. It was a long trip, but I do what it takes to serve my obsession. Turns out that it was a pretty good doughnut, but only a mediocre apple fritter. It just didn’t have any apples, and hardly any cinnamon to boot. But it did boast that perfect fritter texture, soft on the inside and really firm on the outside. Plus the sugar content was pitch perfect. If they would only add some apples and spices, this would be a prince among fritters. Obviously I had to get more than one doughnut since I went all the way down there. The coconut cake doughnut was very, very good. Most places can’t do a cake doughnut to save themselves, but Impallaria’s was perfect AND did not leave that unpleasant film on my teeth like most do. I also got a boston crème which wasn’t very special but tasted good anyway. Prices are good here: I didn’t notice the exact breakdown, but my entire bill was $ 3.11. Nice.

The butter crust is really good with a quite low price, and the bacon bun is good too

Don’t get the Boston Cream Donut because you won’t get any custard filling. Being 8 months pregnant, my husband was nice enough to go out in this freezing weather to get me that donut and it really stinks that there was hardly any custard. If you want a Boston Cream, find another place!

So I NEVER go to the southside. I had to head down that way to get some quality white sox stuff for a special gift. I got down there too early and decided to be a fatty about it and get doughnuts. I didnt want the«fresh of the assembly line» taste of dunkin donuts so I looked for something original and randomly found this place. And let me say I am glad that I did. First of all the doughnuts are gigantic. They are $ 1 each for easily $ 5 worth of doughnut that taste like $ 1,000,000. The inside is old, rustic, but beautifully kept and smells so good you want to drop kick a puppy in celebration. Everyone in the neighborhood apparently knows about this gem but no one ever told me… jerks.

I had the apple pastry and focaccia bread. The focaccia bread was doughy and barely had any flavor. The apple pastry was on the sweet size and the crust wasn’t that fluffy. I was a little disappointed coming here.

Like a few people stated, I don’t think this is a deli. Just a bakery. I came in to inquire about cakes and decided to get two cannolis to try. They were fine, but I’ll like to come back and try the donuts next time.

Stopped in here the other day mainly because I have been using my LevelUp app and I noticed this Bakery on the list of businesses with LevelUp in Bridgeport. The reviews here are spot on. I had a surprisingly delicious machine-dispensed latte and a scrumptious chocolate frosted cake donut. I think it ended up costing my boyfriend and I like a dollar each, which is right on target for my broke college student budget. My only negative comment is that there is no seating in the small shop, but I will be returning for Valentine’s cookies very soon.

The donuts at Impallaria and Bridgeport Bakery are the gold standard for classic donuts in Chicago. Impallaria’s chocolate cake and glazed yeast donuts are as legit as any donuts I’ve had anywhere. These new jack trendy donut places need to fall back and bow down to the OG. Great donuts at a great price. Go here now.

It’s an Italian bakery in a predominantly Chinese neighborhood. BYTHEWAY, the hours are 5am-5pm on weekdays. Slightly different hours on weekends, I can’t remember exactly what they are, but they’re written outside the door. Pros: The donuts are a-freaking-mazing. Soft cake texture, and I found myself ransacking the paper bag for more pieces of icing. The coffee is fantastic. I’m not a fan of Starbucks, and Dunkincoffee is just mediocre for me. You can taste the slow-cooked flavor of this coffee. The prices are not bad, but Dunkin is slightly cheaper. Donuts are 98 cents each, and there are no «deals» here. But at least you know you’re not stuffing yourself with preservatives at 8am. Also, this place seems like a one-stop-shop for your sweet tooth. They’ve got a great variety of pastries, cheesecakes, and cookies, as well. All of them looked good. Cons: No website, no brochure, and prices are listed in a semi-organized fashion in the bakery. I got an «apricot log» b/c I was craving rugelach, so maybe I was setting myself up for disappointment. It was dry and flavorless. I will be coming back here for the donuts and coffee. And maybe a cheesecake when I crave one.

I’ve never had better donuts. They are the size of your head. Get one with a cup of coffee cause, take a note Dunkin, this is real Donut Shop coffee… the kind that tastes like it was brewed with donut crumbs in the grinds. Well done, Bridgeport.

The chocolate glazed cake doughnuts are amazing! Best in the city! They are reasonably priced(83 cents, I believe, for a gargantuan doughnut that should be split, or else your pants won’t fit later on) The goodies here are fresh, tasty and substantial. They taste like they were«made with love». The staff has always been very sweet. Also: for those going with young children, the entire wall opposing the counter is mirrors so the young’ins will stay occupied while you order. :-)

So today was Fat Tuesday/Packzi Day/Pancake day. Even though I am not Catholic enough to fast for or even give up anything for lent, I always partake in a Packzi or two. I am Polish after all, so when every bakery in Chicago is selling these, how can I pass em up? A couple of weeks ago Aaron S. found out that this bakery, just a couple of blocks away from home were making them, I figured what do I have to loose in trying them out? I had a different but further away bakery in mind to try out, but once my work schedual came out for the week, I realized that making it out there during non peak hours wouldn’t quite work out. I went in to pick up my order about twenty minutes before the time I gave them and I didn’t have to wait at all. No lines. Awesome. The Packzi themselves? Really good. They have the right texture. Are the right size(BIG) and just almost perfect flavor. I was confused by a couple of things though. They were more like a Packzi sandwich. I guess they filled them that way to save time? It just confuses me when places do it this way because none of the Packzi’s from my childhood were ever made this way. Also custard Packzi’s traditionally have a chocolate icing/glaze on them, these did not. Very minor things really in the big picture. All in all I was/am a happy camper.
