Came for my friend’s birthday party at Ian Sherwin’s gallery. That was so much fun! You can bring your own food and drinks, play your own playlist, feel like at home :) Ian demonstrated several techniques of drawing. You can practice how to do it on your own. Everyone can chose what they want to draw, and Ian will help you realize your idea. No matter if you’ve taken art classes, or only know how to paint the walls, you will develop new skills :) I highly recommend taking a class with this creative and professional artist! Can’t wait to come back to draw my next masterpiece:)

We did a private painting class and I have to say it was one of the best paint/wine sessions I have been to! I have tried a few other ones before via groupon, I loved that this class was different and we got a chance to explore our own creativity with a painting of our own choice. Would definitely recommended and go for another class in the future!

I would highly recommend doing any sort of private party or class here! We came for a corporate team event. As other reviewers have mentioned, everyone gets to paint something different instead of doing a «paint by numbers» wine glass or city skyline. Some people in our group were a bit wary(we work at a software company so «artistic abilities» isn’t really our strong suit). But Ian showed us some cool abstract techniques and then worked with each individual to guide them if they wanted to paint a certain picture or just use random techniques to achieve an effect. It was SO cool to see how unique everyone’s painting turned out to be. I can’t emphasize enough what a patient, understanding, and intuitive teacher Ian is. Everyone had a great time. I reached out via the website, and Ian was very accommodating and flexible when I was trying to plan for a date that fit everyone’s schedule. The new location is at the north edge of Lakeview, and there’s a few places nearby for food. Place is BYOB/BYOF; cups, plates, painting supplies(board + paints + brushes) were included. The class ended up going longer than I had expected(almost 3.5 hours) but everyone was able to finish their painting although Ian kindly offered to let us come in if we wanted to finish it up or add anything. Again, highly recommend Ian’s class!

Came for a private paint class for my bachelorette party and everyone had so much fun! It is definitely not your basic«paint and sip» class where everyone paints the same thing and ends up throwing it in their closet a few weeks later(I have a lot of those…). He really took the time to get everyone’s individual style and guide those of us who were unsure of where we were going. I ended up with a painting that matches my décor and that I’ll love to have hanging up to remind me of a great time with friends! I highly recommend for any private party. He even let us get food delivered, offered to play our own music and there is a full kitchen available.

Had an amazing time. The owner took his time to show us technique and help us develop my style. I’m not the artsy farsty type guy but this I liked a lot

We have been to the gallery twice and there is a reason behind that. When we first signed up for the class, we were not too sure what we were getting ourselves into. I have walked by other painting classes and have seen HUGE groups of people painting the same thing while the instrutor was in the front on a headset microphone. But this was not the case with Ian. We had a small intimate group, which means we got pleanty of attention. When we walked in, the studio was clean and had beautiful pictures displayed. Ian was very personable and made our group very comfortable from the beginning. He gave us a demonstration and stepped back and let us run wild with our ideas. He checked in with each person and gave useful tips for each piece. Its crazy how we were all in doubt of our skills before we walked in, and walked out INLOVE with our creations! Ian really brought out the artist in us all. I then went back with another group and they all loved it as much as my first group did. Can’t wait to come back for more!

I have been to BYOB painting classes with groups of friends two times. The first was at his old location and the second time was at his new location. Both spaces are great and I have had a fantastic time each time. There was a nice groupon deal the first time. You bring your own drinks and then have the opportunity to create/paint whatever you want. If you want to work off of a picture, Ian will help guide you and show you different techniques you could use. If you want to go abstract, he will show you ways you can play around. I love doing classes there(and would more often if I had the money), because you get to be creative, do your own thing, and hang out with your friends. Everyone’s painting looks different too, which I love.

I have been to many art gallery’s before for Byob wine and painting and this was not what I was expecting. The instructor I think his name is Ian seemed strange(couldn’t make eye contact) and when I asked for advice on how to do a technique he wasn’t helpful at all he was so short with me(made me feel like I’m stupid for not knowing how) He then walked away and carried on talking with the other women. Maybe he knew them but I felt really awkward almost like he was flirting with them or was mad cause I asked for advice/help. The place was dirty and I just felt out of place. However the space is nice but service wasn’t.

I have taken two«wine and painting» classes with Ian. Not only is it a totally fun weekend activity to do with friends, it is also a great way to meet people and socialize in a new way. Ian sets himself apart from teachers in similar venues in the way that he interacts with his students. Ian makes the effort to develop an individual relationship with each and every one of his students. He is seriously invested in seeing every painter go home with a piece that they created and are happy with. If you don’t finish, he offers to send you home with supplies, invites you to come back to work on it, and continues to reach out to see how things are going. It is rare to meet such a genuinely kind and generous person. The gallery is clearly much more than a business for Ian. He strives to create a community and invites every painter to think of his gallery space as «home». I have only worked with him twice, yet I feel like I have a friendship with him. In addition to being a fantastic art teacher, Ian is an extremely talented artist himself. He is very passionate about his work and will gladly describe his artistic process and talk to you about any given piece for as long as you will let him. He is very inspiring to talk to and seems to awaken the artist within each and every individual. You will not be disappointed!

Ian’s gallery is the spot to be when you want to get creative. Ian is a true teacher and mentor. Ian really likes to interact with students and give them positive feedback on their creativity. He is a very positive mentor. Ian provides a fun space for people to really dig a little deeper into their imagination. Ian is a passionate artist with a great gallery where people can have a relaxing class.

I am so happy to have found this art gallery! I’ve attended two art classes here, and I always have a great time! The classes are BYOB, and they usually provide some finger food. Ian(the artist/teacher) starts off by showing the us a couple of cool abstract techniques that we could incorporate into our art. But what I really love most about this class is that Ian will help you with a drawing/painting idea that YOU want to create. I’ve seen some of my FB friends attend other art classes… and the whole class would work on the same drawing/painting! I mean, not ever person wants to draw the Brooklyn Bridge or a vase of flowers! I wanted to paint a unicorn! And a unicorn is exactly what I painted. :) Any who, you can bring in your own ideas and paint it! I would recommend printing out a couple ideas that you would like to paint or saving your ideas on your phone. Make sure to charge your phone and bring your charger just in case.
