Hyde Park Shoe Rebuilder

If you don’t mind shoddy workmanship, then this place is for you. For all others who want quality work you have been warned. Just because a person is older and been doing it a long time doesn’t mean they are good at what they do.
My favorite leather heeled shoes got mutilated here and my favorite pair of leather mules have sloppy glue on edges and on two other shoes, the heels do not have clean edges. I wanted to like this place because it’s close to me and the old guy seemed ok but I’m very disappointed. I found the beehive to get my shoes done and re repair the shoddy heels that were done here. I wish I had found them in the first place before this happened. I miss my old Rogers park Cobbler :(

He ruined one of my best pairs of shoes. Went in to get new soles applied and when I picked them up they were extremely sloppy with the glue still oozing out the sides. It wasn’t that he’d just done the work and that the glue was still wet; I picked the shoes up two weeks after I was scheduled to.
Five weeks later they have fallen apart completely, the soles started to separate after first two weeks. I noticed this and knew I had to take them in, but I was out of country with only two pairs of shoes, I didn’t have much choice but to keep using them and try limiting how often I wore then, by the end of my trip (5 more wears) I noticed that some places had held fast but others had split almost completely, the result: the leather was strained and so the soles literally began to rip off. I told a work associate about my experience and he told me another story about a pair of his shoes the guy ruined as well.
Do not go here; go to Beehive and make sure that your shoes get repaired correctly.

I just wanted to check back in to confirm that this guy seriously ripped me off. My boyfriend got some shoe repairs done at a place up here in Lakeview, and even much more complicated repairs than I got at Hyde Park Shoe Rebuilder cost less than $ 10.

This guy is an old-​world cobbler used to dealing with impoverished students and cheapskate Hyde Parkers. You can bring him something you love that is falling apart and he will repair it to the extent that this is humanly possible, fairly cheaply. It isn’t the expensive Cadillac work that Beehive in the Loop will do – they restore things – but it’s useful if you have something too funky for Beehive to touch. And his workspace is a trip back in time. I don’t know him personally, but I know he has been in this space since I was a child. It doesn’t seem to have changed a lot.
