I interned here a few years ago. My impressions are that in terms of survey development they tend to cut corners. They are not worried about many important aspects of survey design, such as construct validity or internal reliability(ask your rep if he knows what a cronbach’s alpha is). I wouldn’t consider the project managers to be subject matter experts in survey design and development, and the feedback they provide to employees is somewhat superficial. Their action planning software is definitely top notch and very user friendly. But ultimately I found that the behind the scenes operations were lackluster. Data analysis consisted of simple arithmetic(finding averages for item responses, subtracting averages, and highlighting the«largest numbers» — which are not always the most statistically significant numbers). Interestingly, they run their reports using WordPerfect. That’s nothing against the company, and I actually found the program easy to use(I hadn’t even seen WordPerfect on a computer in at least 15 years). So anyway, HR Solutions may have competitive prices(though their project managers are required to «upsale» their products to customers by pitching additional services), but I think there is some comfort relying on a more established third party vendor for your survey needs. Those are my thoughts after spending a summer on the inside.
