I wish I could give zero stars. DONOTEATHERE. I ordered a combination plate with sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, and shrimp fried rice. The meat was questionable, the sauces were disgusting, and the fried rice was extremely salty. Then on top of that I ordered some sugared donut things and I kid you not they put SALT on them instead of sugar. I’ve never had a more inedible meal in my life! I’m still wondering if this meal was some sort of prank because it was THAT terrible.

I came in for carryout last night, and noticed the place was empty and looked like they didn’t have much food out. I would’ve left but I was there already and didn’t want to find another place. I ordered lo mein, chicken fried rice, sesame seed chicken and a veggie roll. I’m not typically picky about my food since I know not to expect 5 star quality from a fast food type place, but this was just bad. The egg roll was super greasy and tasted like it had been there for hours. Same with the sesame seed chicken. It was gooey and the chicken was rubbery. It also tasted like it had been mixed with the orange chicken and there were bits of other food in there. I could only bring myself to eat the rice and lo mein. And even that made me feel sick. Again, I’m not really a picky eater but when I come across a place like this, I have to let others know so they won’t make the same mistake I did.

Despite overwhelmingly negative reviews, I returned to Hong King Express to give it one last examination. I informed the owner that reviews in Unilocal had been very critical and that I will be writing a review and stated that he had to «impress me». With fluid practiced movement, he set out to prepare my order of vegetable fried rice, kung pao chicken and pepper steak. There was nothing groundbreaking about the meal –its fast food Chinese not a savory 5-star restaurant experience. The green peppers tasted fresh and the sauce, while not delicious was just doable though the fried rice was particularly bland. I am of the opinion that restaurant owners, particularly fast food places like Chinese restaurant, become very very very lazy with their recipes/menu. They refuse to improve, banking on the fact that people will ALWAYORDERCHINESE. Hong Kong Express is one of those tired restaurants, uninterested in improving the recipe, confident that sales from uninformed minorities will continue trickling in. More impressive, this is the ONLY Chinese restaurant on Cermark west of Western Avenue, so you can appreciate their reluctance to add some damed flavor in the damn fried rice. What is sad is that these places stay open and are not squashed by sheer market competition.

was scrolling around Unilocal and came across this chinese restaurant. the reviews are really low with bad ratings. but the pictures looks really good and promising. so i went ahead and gave it a try! i ordered the combonation fried rice, crispy beef, pick 2 veggie sides, lo mein, hong kong chicken, and mushroom chicken. everything was sooooooo bland and oily! ive tried using hot sauce and soy sauce to make it bearable to eat. didnt work. sigh. should of listened to the reviews … stupid pictures!

Ordered dinner last night, waited and got completely wrong order. If your hungry, look elsewhere and save yourself the frustration.

On the plus side, they deliver in North Lawndale(and you can order online), so if you’ve got a hankerin’ for Chinese delivery in the neighborhood, you may not be dissuaded by only two stars. The egg roll was not bad, and the orange chicken(large portion) was as advertised from a quantity standpoint. On the down side, you should avoid the sushi(which you probably didn’t need me to tell you). The California roll tasted mostly like salt. Fortune cookie not included :-(

I should have checked the rating and reviews before ordering from here. 2 stars is very generous for this place. I ordered some items to be delivered off of GrubHub and saw the«free delivery» lit up in green. Free delivery is nice but there is ALWAYS a catch. Always. That was what sold me but my naïve approach to ordering food online ended up leading me astray. I am very disappointed with this place and there are a few reasons: 1.) The delivery took forever. Around an hour. After seeing the small portions and simplicity of the dishes, an hour is ridiculous. Turns out they like to send multiple orders out at a time. I hate when places do this. Why? Because they give you other customers orders and that is exactly what happened to me. So I had to wait around some more for the delivery guy to give me the correct order. Not a good way to start out a first experience with a new restaurant. 2.) The portions are SOSMALL. For the price they are ridiculously small and very simple. I got some sweet and sour chicken and it had 6 or 7 pieces of chicken, a lump of white rice(snore), and an excessive amount of sauce. I liked the sweet and sour sauce though. I ended up eating the pineapple chunks out of it. But that was the only enjoyable part of my experience 3.) The price is too high. Especially after seeing the portions. I could just repeat myself about the portions but it would piss me off too much. I forget where I ordered from previously but the prices were around the same for a regular order of an item off the menu and it was almost twice the size. It was very disappointing. So, I guess this place sucks. I forget where I ordered from previously but the prices were the same and the portions were almost double the size. I’ve always expected chinese restaurants to stuff tins and containers to the limit with their food. This is true when it comes to some of the other places I’ve ordered from. But not this place. Do not order from here. Many other reviewers agree so take their word for it. Order from somewhere else. Avoid regret and future disappointment.

This place is so bad.(How bad was it?) it is so bad they brought it in for free lunch today at work and I went across the street and spent $ 11.00 on lunch at Freshii to not have to subjected to this today. I have few«dietary restrictions,» but chinese food with express in the name is usually for the birds. Hong Kong Express is no exception. I don’t live in the area, so i’m glad they’re not my local provider of chinese delivery.

I don’t why the reviews here are so bad. Keeping in mind this is Chinese take out, the food is amazing! I get deliver from these guys all the time. They’re always pretty quick and bring you all the sauces and even a cup of ice if you get a warm soda. Just got the spicy chicken and is truly fresh and delicious!

Horrible food. The food was old and extremely overcooked. I don’t know how they managed to screw up this bad. I ordered beef and broccoli with fried rice and crab rangoon. My rice was really hard and cold. The beef and broccoli was in so much broth that I thought I was eating soup. The broccoli was so overcooked that it literally fell apart in my mouth without me chewing. Disgusting. I threw the entire thing away after taking two bites. Waste of money. I called to complain and they said they would refund my card 10%. They never did. Big surprise, right?

Ordered delivery, not only did they not call or show up, but they tried to blame it on me. Very rude over the phone. I’m glad I didn’t give them my $ 15. Be warned.

I have ordered from this place several times and unlike the other reviews for this restaurant, I found the food and service to be good. Delivery takes about and hour which is about normal for any restaurant, so no complaints there. I have never eaten at the restaurant so I can’t say anything on that. I will surely eat from here again.

WHOA! Who is the manager and who is the District manager… because this place needs to be closed down. I swear I was eating chocolate sauce seasme chicken. The orange chicken tasted like honey. The crab ragoon was filled with onions and nothing else. This place is a shame and the only reason why me and my friend ordered from here was because we needed FOOD at 10:05 in the pm. Never again!!! Don’t even do it if your hungry. Just make a sandwich and all it a day.

First time I ever ordered food, paid for it and took one look and smell and threw it out. Delivery driver was rude, bags were wet from all the grease, kung pao shrimp looked like it was left out for about 10 days, and the awful smell from all this shitty looking food almost made me vomit. This place is definately less than one star, so use these reviews and don’t waste your time with this disgusting place.

YUCKYUCKYUCK is all I have to say. We ordered this place because it was the only place that delivered at 12am. The food was disgusting. I should have just gone to bed instead of waiting for this place to deliver my food. The«general tao’s chicken» tasted like cardboard and was extremely dry. There was no sauce on the chicken at all. The only good thing was that the food was hot, but hot nasty food doesn’t go very far. I will starve before I try this place again. The chicken wings left a bad taste in my mouth. I still have the leftovers in my fridge, I think I will toss them to the neighborhood cats.

DONOTORDERFROMTHISPLACE!!! The food was ok, and they forgot my drinks. But the delivery driver was the biggest creep ever! He rang my doorbell over and over, and when I mentioned that it was overkill he informs me that it was because there were alot of blacks in my neighborhood and he was nervous. I told him I thought he was a racist and should probably find a new line of work, he told me I shouldn’t even be here. The nerve! I’ve never been so angry at a delivery person. When I called management they didn’t seem too concerned that they had a racist working for them either. I was told they would make sure he didn’t deliver to my address again, that’s all. Well, they don’t have to concern themselves with that!!!

Not worth it, won’t be getting it again. Portions are huge for what you pay(if you get the large size). Egg rolls were good. Food was less than mediocre. My boyfriend thought his chicken egg foo young was only«ok»(and this is from someone who doesn’t exactly have discriminating taste — I’ve never heard him not like something) and my general tso’s chicken was pretty bad. Not enough sauce, bland and, well, just kind of weird. Delivery took much longer than promised. I think I’ll be looking for somewhere different for my chinese delivery needs.

If Chef Boyardee made Chinese, this is what it would taste like. I would rather drag my tongue over the underside of my couch cushions than eat here. The significance of the couch cushion is that I have a dog and four kids. My furniture gets scary.

It’s a very convenient and fast paced place. It resembles a buffet but they are serving you. It’s cheap and they are very nice there.
