My fav bar in Chicago! Always a great time! My group of friends and I go after dinner at Tango Sur. Whenever I’m back in Chitown I always stop in!

Got there at about 4:55pm and bartender told me that they are closed and I can hang out there for few mins, while there were about 5 people getting their drinks and drinking beer. WTF?! And I have to wait while everybody else had their drinks? So Rude!

Guthries is a great neighborhood bar, complete with a wall of board games for you to play while you hang out and a great beer list. It’s a VERY limited menu, but you can always order food to be delivered to there, and the infamous Tamale Guy is frequently spotted on weekend nights. If you’re looking for upscale, stay away, but if what you want is a great time with some friends or the perfect lowkey first date spot, Guthries is your place! Just beware — it gets packed on the weekends at night!

Guthrie’s is a great place for conversation. There are no TVs, the music is not intrusively loud, and the tables and lighting are intimate and cozy. The beer list is quite nice, with plenty of draft options ranging from gold standards to rotating specials as well as plenty of interesting and adventurous bottled choices(and PBR in a can, my personal favorite). A defining feature of the place are the board games, which make it a great spot to catch up with friends or take someone out for a first date, which you’ll see a lot of here. Friday and Saturday night ca be extremely busy and there isn’t a lot of space to go around, so I’d recommend staking out a table early if you come on the weekend. Definitely one of my favorite neighborhood spots.

The bartender was a total b****. The doorman mentioned that this is her«thing.» Well sir, I don’t enjoy being treated like a piece of sh*t when I order a drink. Also, this place is packed with bros, no thanks.

Cool bar that has board games and has a collection of menus for food delivery. They have a variety of beers on hand. The lighting was a bit dim, which may not be as conducive to playing boardgames for long.

Ok place, not loud at all, lots of games, grouchy bar tender discourage me to order a second beer oh well I guess not everything can be perfect. Customer service and empathy are important for me. Hopefully next time is better.

It’s nothing fancy; great selection of games, generally pretty friendly crowd, good amount of space. Celebrated a graduation here and also had a work Christmas party here. The staff is pretty useless but not unkind. Good for a night out but there are definitely better game bars out there that have more seating on busy nights. Bonus: You can have food delivered here.

Guthries is the best place to visit on a the nights when you want to be social but not have to venture too far into Wrigleyville. This place caters to people that love to drink and play board games. They have a whole bookcase that is packed with the common popular games. I do have to mention that the games are very worn due to the overuse and sometimes are missing parts. This is a great place to gather with a group of friends. I would recommend getting there a little early if you planned on getting a table so you can play the games. The drinks are all reasonably priced and delicious. They offer bar food but they allow you to bring your own food or have it delivered. I’ve seen people get pizza delivered to a man walking through the bar selling tacos. I loved my visit and can’t wait to go back! I can see this place quickly becoming one of my go too places on the nights I don’t want to dance the night away.

Trapped in a suburban sprawl lacking any neighborhood bar worthy of calling my favorite drinking hole here in Arizona, I long for another bar to compare to Guthrie’s Tavern. On my 4 day trip to Chicago in October Guthrie’s Tavern was one of the top bars I was able to stroll into. Extensive craft beer selection, ivy covering the exterior with a homey feel that has never been matched by any bar I’ve been too. Can’t wait for round 2 on my next visit to Chicago!

I tell everyone this is my favorite place in Chicago because it’s just that amazing. The bar has character and is a great neighborhood bar with a lil something special. They have a whole bookshelf full of board games, are open late, and have a good selection of alcohol. You can’t go wrong here whether you’re wanting to catch up with old friends or getting know new ones. Note to those who are driving that parking on the Addison is permitted so best to find parking on Southport!

When you come to an established place like this you expect to have a fun time because these type of establishments are rare but then you encounter a condescending, unhappy and rude bartender. He was such a dick his disgusting attitude prompted us to leave. We had to ask ourself was it is or is he like this all the time. We came to the conclusion that he was like this all the time. My one friend asked if he had Prosecco and the tone of his voice as like«WHATPROSECCO» then another friend tried to move a high top chair and he then said«DONTMOVETHATITSFORTHEWAITSTAFF» when there wasn’t any there and didn’t give another option to move it anywhere else. It’s wasn’t crowded he made everyone come to the bar to get or drinks when he could have delivered it. Plus he was on the phone the entire time and kept going in the back. We noticed that monopoly was in Spanish and we asked if he had it in English and he said«what’s there is all we have». Since it was three of us we asked if we could split it three ways and he said you an only do $ 10 each way without even telling us the total and then I asked… well. What it the total? He gave us our cards and then walked away Into the back again. They guy that working is a short man of color with a beard. We will come back there again when he is not working. He was a total jerk!

Such a fun place to come for board games. You can order in any food that you would like. On weekends, tables tend to fill up around 8pm so get here early to grab a seat! We arrived around 7pm on a Friday and snagged a table plus our two favorite games. We ordered in pizza and drank beers all night. Laid back vibe, lots of fun!

Wow! Great selection of beers, very relaxed and comfy atmosphere, and board games galore– what more could you want? This is such a great neighborhood bar for hanging out, so you don’t have to worry about too-loud music or sitting around in darkness. While there was plenty of tables when I arrived at around 6pm on a Friday, by the time we left at 7:30 all the tables were taken– I’d suggest getting here after an early dinner if you want to play some games! I’ll definitely be going back!

Came here with friends after a Cubs game. It a nice neighborhood bar. The had plenty of drink selections but not really food. There was like 4 items on the food menu. We orders the pizza and it was ok. The best part about the bar, is that they have broad games. So you can play your favorite broad game as a kid while drinking. That is pretty cool! We had a pretty good time and plan to go back, I’ll make sure to eat before going there.

I love Guthrie’s! It’s a solid neighborhood bar that has a great selection of beers and a wide array of board games. That, in my book, is a winning combination! I first came here about a year ago and was quite impressed and have been back a few times more recently. The bartenders are really friendly and are always chatting with patrons seated at the bar. The décor of this place is a little nuts with some weird pieces on the walls and ceilings. Above the bar area there is a bunch of doll faces! Kinda creepy. The only thing I wish this place had was more seating(it gets packed on weekends with people setting in for the evening and playing a lot of games) and maybe a TV at the front of the establishment just in case the Hawks/Bulls are playing. You can’t see the back TV from the front of the house. Anyway, this place is a great bar where almost anyone will feel comfortable. Just stop by, order a drink, and play a few games of Connect 4 or Candyland. I’ll definitely return! P. S. Don’t challenge me at Connect 4. I will win.

Guthrie’s is great. Board games and beer. Great for a lazy Sunday afternoon or a Friday night with friends. Very casual, laid back atmosphere with board games for free. Given they’re free, probably expect a couple missing pieces but nothing you can’t figure out on your own. The board game selection is pretty good I think, plenty of your typical social games — yahtzee, sorry, life, apples to apples, etc. The beer menu is pretty good as well. I was definitely expecting plenty of light beers and plain old pilsners, but there’s more. Got a couple good German beers there in the past. I would not recommend the food. I haven’t eaten there, but friends have an none report it as anything worth eating. But you’re probably not there to eat anyway. Guthrie’s a a good time by all.

300+ reviews are great but they all say the same thing: It’s a fun place, quiet, friendly place to go and have a drink or two and play some old school board games! First time I was here it was with others in a class I was taking. Since then I have been here a few times. It’s a great place for a first or second date just to go have a drink and play some board games.

This bar is the definition of «laid-back». It was awesome drinking a few beers and playing dominos in the back porch. They even have menus so that you can order food from a local restaurant.
