Glo On Braids & Natural Hairstyling

I had a great experience at Glo On and will be returning to her for braids in the future. Shavon was pleasant and we had friendly conversation. I didn’t get my hair washed and tried to blow dry it but I do wish it was blown out more because my hair (which is kinky curly) cam be seen through the braids. I know for next time to get it washed/​blown out there. Other than that, I love my braids and the location is SUPER convenient, in the south loop. I’ll be back!

Shavon is my go to natural hair stylist because she is creative and gentle. She’s the best around in my opinion.

I was happy to be in Shavon’s chair again. I love my yarn twists. The atmosphere is peaceful and easy to relax in. Shavon truly works her magic and takes care of your hair.

This is my first time reviewing the company. The people who run it are nice but this is about their business.
I have only been to Glo On Braids twice and unfortunately I won’t be returning because they are getting too expensive. Don’t get me wrong, they do a good job on the hair but I am not made of money and at some point you have to question what you are really getting for your money. The first time I went the cost for mid back Senegalese twists was $ 200 in September or October of 2013. The cost for the same hair-​do in February 2014 is $ 250 which is now really out of my price range. I understand that prices have to increase for inflation but a $ 50 increase is ridiculous.
Now I don’t have a lot of experience with getting my hair braided/​twisted and so I went with Glo On because they had really good reviews. Everyone seems to have an opinion of what makes a hair braider good and all I knew was that this place had good reviews and they weren’t too difficult to get to.
Something else that bugged me besides the price was willing to write off is the experience. When you have someone sitting in a chair for up to 6 hours and the client is paying you a lot of money I think it is courteous to offer them refreshments such as water and it also can’t hurt to apologize if you are delayed by something.
The last time I went I think that my spot was overbooked because at one point there were 3 people at once waiting to have there hair done including myself (though she did have an assistant). At some times I was left sitting waiting for long periods of time because she was working on other people. Shavon started doing my hair at 9:30 but I didn’t get out of her office until 6pm. It is in the south loop off of Wabash and Roosevelt Road.
I don’t have a lot of experience with hair braiders so I thought I had found a winner that I would return to for years to come. That all changed when she increased her prices. I recently found an alternative that I can use next time who can do it for much cheaper for the same result.

Customer service SUCKS!!! I had a consultation with Shavon and was very excited about getting my hair done… After the consultation, I got no response from her. I called and left a message on her VM then I reached out to her on Facebook — NO RESPONSE. What I found funny is, FB will let you know when a person reads your messages and needless to say she read my message 20 minutes after I reached out to her. I’m very glad that I didn’t purchase the hair from her ($ 200), because I would be stuck in a rut being that she won’t return calls. Good luck to anyone needing to get their hair done by her, I guess she’s too busy for new clients.

I have been going to Glo on Braids for about 6 months now and will look no further for anyone else to care for my hair. Shavon is every efficient and works at a speedy rate. She braids very neat and does not pull tight. I have been consistently getting my hair braided for 6 months and still have strong healthy edges. Shavon does a beautiful job and I recommend her for natural hair care and styling services.

I had a great experience today. I moved from CA looking for someone to do loc maintenance with a latch hook for micro-​locs and Glo On came to the rescue. The products smelled great, the conversation was friendly, and my hair looks great!

My cousin has been natural for almost 10 years but never went to a professional stylist. She was getting married and I insisted that she have her hair done professionally. We went to 3 consultations. Glo On won hands down! They we’re very patient during the free consult and used her hair to show samples of different styles they could achieve. Upon leaving they set up a tentative appointment with us in their computer system and said they would follow up to see what we decided.
We had a horrible experience at another natural hair salon named Chatoo, which charged us a consultation fee knowing they wouldn’t be available for the date we needed the hair done and the simple style we requested was going to cost a ridiculous amount. We hurriedly left and finally confirmed our appointment with Glo On. From that time on they were constantly in communication with us. They confirmed different hairstyles and hair accessories. The appointment they gave us started exactly on time and they finished 2 hours earlier than the initial estimate. But with the speed they did not sacrifice the quality. The hair turned out beautiful! It was exactly like our vision and the price was so reasonable. Thank you Glo On for a wonderful experience. We will be back!
