YUM!!! Seriously can’t stop raving about this place. I have been here quite a few times and the people are very friendly. I haven’t tried their food yet as I only come here for the Italian ice, but I’ve tried just about every flavor and my faves are watermelon and strawberry, even though they’re all delicious. Their prices aren’t bad either and since I recently moved it the area it’s tempting to stop by everyday. The only reason I dont come here everyday and the reason for my 4 of 5 stars is that this place accepts cash only and although their hours are posted on Unilocal I came here a couple times and they were closed… even though the Unilocal hours said they were open. They didn’t have any hours posted on the window either. This can be a bit confusing for customers. Aside from those two nuances I highly recommend this place. I will most definitely keep returning!

Great italian sub. Fantastic italian ice. Try the roast beef or the smoked turkey and ham. I stop by when in the area!

Sorry I have to give two stars. I’ve been to this place twice and I absolutely dislike their Italian Beef. Don’t think I’ll give them a third try.

I always pass this place on my way to work. Right off the expressway its convenient. I decided to go with a classic dipped Italian beef with mozzarella cheese. The beef was very well portioned and tasted great! One thing that really got my attention was how friendly the staff was! They were tremendously curious to every customer there! I love when a place makes you feel welcome! Parking lot is tiny and cramped and it seems like the parking lines are non existent when people park. I will def come back here again!

Freaken LOVE this place. So glad during winter they still have a smaller selection of Italian Ice. The quality and value can’t be beat. Love their watermelon, strawberry, cantaloupe & lemon. I tried the mango and reminded me of frozen sashimi.

Food is average at best, but the Italian ice is the best. Made on site with seasonal fresh fruit. I prefer their smooth consistency & natural fruit flavors far above Taylor St.

Worst food I have ever had hands down. My hubby and I each ordered a beef and a breaded steak. He wanted me to try the beef before we even left the parking lot to make sure it wasn’t too spicy, it wasn’t any spicy and in fact tasted a bit spoiled. We drove home, he was disappointed because he said he used to love this place. I felt bad for telling him I didn’t like it. Once home he took a bite of his beef, he was surprised at how terrible this was, and he agreed it had a strange flavor to it. So we tried the steak, i had mine with natural juice(beef juice) instead of red sauce, the bread that was dipped was inedible and had the same horrid taste as the beef. The steak was okay but not good enough to make me go back. Our bill was $ 40 ½ of which ended up literally given to our dogs, which BTW they wouldn’t even eat the meat. I would find a different place to go and save yourself the bad meal.

I’ve been at this place a few times. The first time I went I had a Italian ice with a Buffalo chicken sandwich. The Italian ice was great, but the sandwhich had more fat than meat. The second time I went, I tried the Italian beef sandwhich. That was ok as well, but it didn’t have any flavor to the meat in my opinion. It wasn’t enough meat, for the amount of bread you get, and it wasn’t worth $ 9.00 in taste & size.

I have been stopping at this place for the best hot dog special around town. You get 2 hot dogs with some of everything on it. I love the slice pickle and hot sport pepper’s. You also get a super size order of fresh and hot French fries And a large drink. This place has a wide menu for what ever you may have a taste.

Nothing flashy about this place, and sometimes the hours are unpredictable, however they’re a solid neighborhood joint and everything they serve up is as it should be, and you can’t go wrong with a beef or meatball sandwich from here. What I find that seals the deal is that you can get some really very tasty Italian Ice in December. Velvety, sweet and tart, just perfect. Most places have it only seasonally, which is a bummer. This is where you can satisfy that craving. Not only can you get a serving, you can get it by the gallon to take home. Can’t ask for anything more!

Been coming here for years for the Italian beef sandwich as it is one of the best in the city. They aren’t afraid to pile it on and the bread is very fresh. Get it dipped. The juice is very good.

For the pride of south side, I rendered Ferro’s a five(5)-star rating on their Italian ice lemonade. Although I’m a north-sider, I’m quite itinerant. It’s not too difficult to spot Ferro’s if you’re stuck on that infamous I-90/I-94(Kennedy/Dan Ryan) junction. Well, take a breather and spend some quality time at Ferro’s, on the northwest corner of 31st. and Wentworth. Having Italian ice during summer time has become a routine for me whenever I have days off from work. Here are price comparisons, as of 08/24/2015, from the joints I’ve visited in the city and in the immediate suburb: 1) Ferro’s small cup: $ 3.50(THATCUPISBEYONDFULL) 2) Mario’s medium cup: $ 2.75(size compatible to Ferro’s small cup) 3) Gina’s medium cup: $ 3.00(my third favorite in Chicagoland) All three(3) places accept cash only. I’ve tried Annette’s in Lincoln Park and Miko’s in Logan Square. However, for the value/portion ratio, Ferro’s does stand out in the crowd. I saw some patrons ordered the large cup($ 6.50) and shared it. Rosa J. and Daddy J. went with a small cup of cantaloupe and a small cup of pineapple. They were delicious with pieces of real fruit in them! I have to admit that Ferro’s has several advantages over other competitors: free parking and a spacious patio for the season. They also serve fast food and have heard positive reviews on that category. Driving obviously would be a convenient choice. Nevertheless, the CTA Sox-35th Red Line Station is approximately four(4) blocks south. When #24(Wentworth) bus is running, it would be an alternative as well if you love CTA buses as much as I do.

Can’t believe I have not yet signaled out what has undeniably become a Chicago South Side notable: Ferro’s. In fact, I’m even more surprised there are not more reviews here period, especially given the dependable throngs who will come from near and far to stand in sweltering heat while awaiting a scoop of arguably one of Chicago’s best Italian Ice concoctions. Locals CRAVE Italian Ice in the summer. For the devotees, they tend to be split based on geography. Each«side» of the city presents great choices including Tom & Wendee’s(Lincoln Park) and Mario’s(Little Italy). For the South Siders(and the other trekkers), Ferro’s(Bridgeport) is the SPOT! Fruity, non-artificial and packed to the hilt. On a hot Chicago day, one can drive north on the Dan Ryan and look up to see the throng. And two years ago, Ferro’s further distinguished itself by making the most popular flavors such as strawberry, pineapple and mixed berry, available year-round. Always great for a New Year’s treat, mixed with a top-shelf vodka or just by itself. Ferro’s also offers consistently tasty fare in the way of it’s ambitious menu of burgers, dogs, polishes and popular breakfast sandwiches. Oh, and the hot, fresh fries are sinful! Finally, as a long-standing institution, Ferro’s has done a fantastic job of retaining always polite, expedient staff. Same crew for years and they apparently love what they do. That’s a really nice thing to see … A family –oriented team of diverse persons happily aligned with great service and superior product. If you have not been, I highly recommend Ferro’s for a visit. If you are in the mood for any of what’s been mentioned heretofore, you will NOT be disappointed.

I am a Hot Link Junkie. Tried two different links here on two consecutive days. On the first day I witnessed an elderly black lady complaining that they skimped on her barbecue sauce on her last visit. I got the link special, which consists of a Hot Link, fries, and a drink for around 9 dollars. The link was decent, but holy mackerel, did they ever skimp on the barbecue sauce. The fries were completely naked. The owner is so stingy with this barbecue sauce, like it’s made of gold. It isn’t even that great anyway, Cheapskate. Leon’s Barbecue has no competition here. This miser isn’t in the same league! Whoever heard of a Link Dinner with no barbecue sauce on the fries and half a teaspoon of barbecue sauce on the Link. What a sick joke!

4 stars only for the reason that they take cash, but other than that this place has great burgers and I always enjoy this place. Environment is great ! Also right of the highway for a quick stop if you’re passing by Chicago

I heard good reviews so I decided to try this place out on a number of different occasions. So I’ve been to this place a couple times and never been able to get my order taken. Literally waiting 10, 15, sometimes 20 minutes just for service. Whether it was the restaurant line or outdoor italian Ice line. There was never anyone in line ahead of me. I won’t be returning.

I have yet to go to Ferro’s and try something I do not enjoy. If you’re in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and stop in. They have a smoker where they make fresh bbq everyday. Their brisket and rib tips are my favorites. It will leave you licking your fingers. Their Italian ice is the best I’ve ever had, ever! You taste the fresh fruit that they use. Treat yourself well and try all their flavors. Your tummy will thank me. Make sure you remember to bring cash though bc they don’t accept cards. Believe me though, it’s worth running down to the atm and going back. Enjoy!
