After taking a «red eye» flight from the west coast, Fannie’s was fantastic find on Unilocal. The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing. The food was delicious and prepared home style. Highly recommend the biscuits & sausage gravy(more sausage than gravy). Our server, Kate was the best ever.

French toast is excellent. Brunch on Sundays is really good as well. Owner also takes custom orders. She made cupcakes for my friends baby shower that turned out great.

Stopped in with a friend and our little one for coffee and breakfast. Food was fresh and flavorful! Service very friendly and accommodating! Our waitress offered up crayons and a basket of of small toys available to keep little hands busy, always nice when a business makes dining out with a little one an easier experience! Baked goodies at the front of the store all looked so good, couldn’t decide what to take home for later. Went with the lemon cookies and they were a great choice!

I have stopped into Fannie’s a few times in the late morning, since I had downtime before the bar tending classes started next door. Overall the place is charming and the staff is very cordial. The coffee is good; you may also purchase iced coffee with frozen espresso cubes. I ate the polish sausage and scrambled egg sandwich, and it was delicious. Overall incredible, but not the most overwhelmingly awesome of places. Great place to study in the morning.

Stopped in at Fannie’s this morning on my way to work. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Everything looked very tasty, had to restrain myself from buying too many sweets. I ordered biscuits & gravy to go, a pancake-batter-maple-bacon muffin and a mocha latte. I wandered around looking at the handmade local craft items(embroidered baby bibs, hand beaded jewelry, hand knit items) while I waited for my food. The wait time was appropriate for my order and I really enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful handmade items. I have a nephew whose wife is due in August. I’m planning on purchasing the adorable bib with Mangia! embroidered on it the next time I’m there. The order included 2 biscuits, quite enough to share with my co-worker. The gravy was laden with sausage and still perfectly warm after my 7 minute drive to my office. Can’t wait for my next visit.

I just got back from Fannie’s Sunday brunch. It was fantastic. I’m so full that I can’t imagine eating for the rest of the day — and I didn’t even try everything. I will definitely be back! Unlimited brunch is $ 15 and goes from 10 – 2.

Charming café in a neighbor that you can park. Food was very good, especially the vegetable pancakes. Brought home a scone and that was excellent. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

I have been wanting to try Fannies for a while. Since my child’s school was having a fundraiser there I decided to stop in to support. I was so disappointed at how rude the girl at the counter was. She wasn’t going to crack a smile for anything! I was the one saying thank you for purchasing something from them. Coffee was decent, scone was dry. I am a stickler for customer service. Friendly sure would be nice. Unfortunately I won’t be back.

Good service. Small menu, but small is good when they do it right. Yummy bread. Try a breakfast sandwich. We loved ours.

For a bakery it really has little to offer. I was pretty stoked since I am in the area a bakery was headed our way. I envisioned cakes a plenty, many types of cookies, etc. Kinda like Marianos. Not even close. I saw no cakes when I was there. It’s a bakery!!! It is very odd place. Jewelry for sale, a antiquated sitting area which I guess is part of the«style». Had a muffin. Was not that impressed… Bummed

Fannie’s rocks. We celebrated my son’s one year old birthday at the bakery, and it was a huge success. They worked with me on a menu, allowed us to bring in beer, and the space was perfect for our group. Food was great and atmosphere was cozy and homelike. Highly recommended for a Saturday coffee date or an event venue. Welcome to the neighborhood!

It is so rare to find somewhere friendly and relaxed but which also has wonderful food. This place is a hidden gem which I will certainly be returning to regularly. The staff are incredibly welcoming and the atmosphere is just right — a happy mixture of comfort, peace and quality. The furniture and style is wonderfully eclectic and in addition to the bakery there is also a small ‘homespun’ store with lots of thoughtfully crafted gifts. I’ve now visited twice and both times there has been a great mix of people from parents with small children happily playing with the games and books provided, to couples chatting and even the odd person catching up on some personal time. All are welcome. Enjoy.

I was first introduced to Fannie’s(formerly Fannie Schmoe’s) at the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market. Stephanie and her husband Troy are wonderful. I just love Fannie’s chocolate marble cookies, which always sell out at the Market! Some girlfriends and I made the quick drive into the city to sample their hot menu. The outside signage isn’t the best, so we almost missed the place. Look for the big Pizza sign out front. As soon as we walked in, we just loved the vibe. The mini-marketplace of local artists was great — such as Distinct Bath and Body’s handmade soap, a wine bottle painter, a crochet artist, jewelry makers, and others. If you’re looking for some local artisan products, this is your place! Once we peeked into the bakery/café, we settled into a cozy blue table in the corner surrounded by lovely paintings on the wall. We were given a coffee menu, a breakfast/lunch menu, and a daily special menu. Most of us went with breakfast and coffee, thought the lunch menu was tempting. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered: biscuits and gravy w/2 eggs over easy, corned beef hash w/2 eggs over easy, walnut french toast w/fruit and yogurt, Trouble T sandwich, and sides of mac and cheese and veggie pancake. See photos. The service was lovely, with our waitress AND both owners checking up on us often. A pair of hand painted wine bottles caught my friend’s eye on our way in. She mulled over the purchase as we were eating and she decided to buy them. It turns out that our waitress Kate is the one who painted them! What talent! It’s always so lovely to meet the artist in person. We all just loved this neighborhood joint, even though we don’t live in the neighborhood! We are going to plan for some extra time at our next visit so we can go to the Distinct Bath and Body store and other Portage Park treasures.

Great addition to the neighborhood. Eclectic place that serves coffee, baked goods, breakfast, and lunch. Most ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Bonus is the BYOB status. We tried the Irish breakfast special and the spinach tomato and egg sandwich. Very good. Expresso coffee was good too. Great place to stick around and eat, meet, or work. Lots of room plus a little store that feature licks artists. So good and relaxing.

Rosa J. celebrated the Valentine’s/President’s Day with a strong commitment to supporting local businesses, just as you were to do so with your spouse or the significant other. She noticed that a relatively new coffee shop, Fannie’s, opened in the northeast end of Portage Park several months ago. I dragged hubby along to check out this spot. Fannie’s is technically a «coffee shop, a «pastry/breakfast joint, and a «boutique» featuring arts and crafts made by local artists and products from local businesses. I saw the soaps from«Distinct Bath and Body» on W. Irving Park Rd. sold in here. The entire venue is very homey, which reflects the demographics of the neighborhood, more family-oriented. Many patrons arrived at Fannie’s early for the Sunday AYCE brunch($ 15/adult). Although I didn’t have the luxury this morning to stay longer for this feast, I would definitely come back when I have a Sunday off. Everyone was nice and inviting. The prices for the coffee, beverages, and pastries are quite reasonable($ 2.85/scone; $ 2.47/12oz. latte, as of 02/14/2016). The coffee was adequately strong, and the blueberry scone was delicious. The owner(assuming he was) commented on my Union Jack handbag. I know it may be a subjective comment, but I think those who are fond of the Union Jack pattern can’t be bad people because this pattern is merely awesome! It’s on my route to work(20-minute walk northbound to Jefferson Park Blue Line). Fannie’s is located near the corner of Milwaukee and Montrose, adjacent to the bartending school.

Crazy delicious fresh homemade food in a super comfy DIY atmosphere, all made by people that love what they do. AND the Mac n cheese is insanely yummy.

Went on a slow Saturday afternoon. There were no other patrons but me. While service was friendly it was also SUPERSLOW. I wish I could provide review on the food… I ordered the Zesty turkey sandwich to go. It took at least 15 minutes to put a simple sandwich together. I got home ready to enjoy my «zesty turkey sandwich», took out my sandwich only to find that there was NOTURKEY in my sandwich!!! I almost went back to return it, but it took soooo long to get any service the first time around, I decided it was worth the aggravation!

Live a couple blocks from this place and decided to try it for Saturday breakfast. I got one of the breakfast sandwiches and my husband got a breakfast special; we both ordered the bottomless coffee. I thought the food was very good, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere is great. I loved the mismatched furniture; I felt like I was at someone’s house and it was very inviting and cozy. We were told to take our time with the check, and I didn’t feel rushed at all. After breakfast, I looked through the boutique area and then we went to the other side to order lattes and a package of cookies to go. The lattes were excellent and we both enjoyed the cookies as well. For a business that just opened, I think that Fannie’s is wise to have a smaller menu and shortened dining hours as they get their name out in the community. We will definitely return.

Fannie’s is two storefronts, one side being a counter for a small bakery plus coffee, the other side being a café with a small area with bags and other craft items for sale. The bakery side makes the same stuff that people have gotten at the smaller location(in the library in Harwood Heights) and at local farmers markets and that is on the whole quite good. The café is surprisingly large, the walls kind of a pastel orange, the tables mismatched, not a very typical Chicago place. It felt like something out of a small town. They only have one high chair right now, which was kind of a problem as there were at least five kids there who could have been in one. As for the food… meh. We had a sandwich, eggs with potato pancake, coffee. For some reason they try to have a noon cutoff, breakfast only before noon, lunch only after noon, but with so few items on the menu and a place that leads as a café specializing in pastries, that just doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s in a good location with no other coffee shop too close, but if you’re driving, there are places which focus on coffee or on breakfast in relatively close proximity. We’ll still get the cinnamon buns at the farmers markets and if nearby might walk in for coffee but overall given the build up we were disappointed.
