This is THE Greektown grocery. Artopolis, across the street has some Greek wine and liquor and coffee, but Elea is the place if you want cheese, dry goods, olives, herbal tea, or other groceries. The store is clean and orderly, if a bit small, and the people who work there are always helpful – and the girl is pretty cute. Her presence nearly makes up for the absence of the old Greeks in the white coats who worked at the old grocery(that burned down a few years ago). Also, be sure to try all the varieties of cheese that they have from Greece and Bulgaria.

I love this sandwich shop! I work right around the corner and make it a regular lunch stop during the week. I have tried a couple of sandwiches but mainly stick to one which the owners kindly alter a tad for me. These sandwiches are stacked high with quality meats and cheeses, and the price is great too. If you are in Greek town for lunch stop in here!

Baseball star under half the size of the original place that used to be by Pan hellenic Bakery. Was greeted by the girl that was working there who had to get her sister and another guy who was talking about some dude that was attractive or something but she asked me a couple of questions to see if I needed anything and I did pick something up it is a very small store but its nice and I’m sure the prices there reflect it being downtown in Greektown.

Nothing but good, quality goodies. Like being back in Greece. Prices are very reasonable. Very nice people too. Support the mom and pop shops!

I got the barrel aged feta – best feta I think I’ve ever had. Also picked up some delicious olive oil and roasted red peppers. The owners are very nice and helpful. Will definitely be back, their sandwiches sound good too!

Total hidden gem! Homemade yogurt is ridiculous; best I’ve ever had. Their barrel aged Feta is amazing as well. A little tough to find parking in that neighborhood sometimes, but otherwise it’s great. Friendly service and well priced to boot.

If you are Greek & fortunate enough to be raised in a Greek household, this place will be as comforting to you as the sun on a warm day. I just discovered Elea and I haven’t been this happy in ages. To start off with, I am Greek and have been to Greece. I am the pickiest person you will ever meet. Here is what I have to say. The owner is a kind, generous man who will graciously offer you samples. The market itself is cozy, busy and full of culinary wonder. It’s located in the heart of Greektown. They have olives worthy of song, many kinds of feta, olive oil that’s the real deal, not the overpriced supermarket stuff. It will ruin any other olive oil for you, be warned. They have a dozen or more kinds of great Greek cheese. I splurged and got a lb of the feta as well as some others. Magnificent. They have loukaniko! Definitely worth the trip and 5+ stars! Will be coming back weekly for the basics. Next time I’m getting a giant can of olive oil! Titan brand = heaven.

Excellent Imported products at a fraction of the price of anywhere else. The man who runs the shop was so nice, and let us sample cheeses and olives before we made purchases. They have all sorts of stuff, and we now have a great local store to add to our weekly grocery shopping trips.

We really love the tasty cheeses at this store. They have original Greek products, and they are always happy to let you taste test cheese first. The sheep’s milk feta is delish. The people are very friendly. :)

Excellent Greek cheese selection along with wide variety of gourmet Greek foods. This store offers an excellent mix of quality, service and value. It is surprising their prices are better than Dominicks or Jewel — let alone Whole Foods or Treasure Island. Even if you are not Greek, there foods such as olive oil, olives, rusks, sweats, canned vegetables suitable for a wide range of dishes. Yet, the best part is the wide range of gourmet Greek cheeses(kefalograviera, kefalotyri, vlahotiri) that are not available in Chicago-area grocery stores.

I wish I knew about this place sooner! I live a few blocks away and have been buying things like olive oil and cheese and olives at Dominicks where it’s overpriced and not special. The nice Greek man who owns the store was handing me all sorts of stuff to try before I bought them. Their feta is beyond anything I’ve had even in restaurants, and the olive oil… a super yummy big bottle of imported greek oil for $ 9! I can’t wait to go back and buy more treats!

Greek specialty grocer in Greek Town. Great feta, kalamata olives, kasari among the many items to get your Greek fix.
