Edited/updated review: Eclipse has been closed since early January 2013. The owner shut the place down and fired all the staff via a note on the door. The phone has been disconnected and the exterior of the place has been deteriorating. Their brand-new LED sign has been disconnected as well. The owner of the restaurant claimed they’d be re-opening in partnership with Lettuce Entertain you. Lettuce Entertain You denied they’d ever talked to Eclipse.

5 stars for service 4 stars for food I wish I would have asked our server/hostess her name — she was absolutely wonderful last night! Very attentive, very sweet, gave us free dessert, etc. I had the scallops with wasabi mashed potatoes. The scallops were delicious, but the mashed potatoes were a bit too potent for me. Also had the Caesar salad and the garlic that was used in the dressing was way too strong! Otherwise, everything else was good! I would definitely return and try some other dishes!

My date took me here for the first time. As i walked inside, my eyes got bigger as i was overwhelmed by the beauty of the designs. everything was in top notch qualities. it gets better when i opened the menu. My first entre choice was the jumbo lobster tail cooked in perfection! I cant wait to go back there again to try the rest of the recipes. i walked out so happy and feeling more than satisfied. My date made me feel very special! Great job to the owner and his crew!

Horrible service!!! The most ridiculous thing I’ve ever experienced. My fiancé and walked in here on a thursday night(totally dead by the way) and waited by the door for at least five to seven minutes before we left because NONE of the waiters(who we could see in the kitchen talking and laughing amongst themselves) even bothered to check outside and see if there were customers waiting to get seated. VERY disappointing.

Food was excellent but service was pretty subpar. We went in a very large group and the entire order was inaccurate and lotsa people got the wrong dish but in general the food was very tasty. Maybe in smaller groups the service is better? They did however recognize the poor service and comped us a bunch of desserts that were also great tasting.

I went to eclipse for a couple of reasons: proximity to where I was for dinner time and they supposedly serve zabiha/halal meat. The atmosphere at eclipse was ultra chic compared to a high end steakhouse. Since it was our first time, we decided to go with the burgers and ordered sliders for my daughter. The burgers were delicious. It was probably one of the best burgers I have had in my life that complimented beautifully the caramelized onions and cheddar cheese. The sliders were incredible too with pretzel buns. The fries were also good. Compliments to the chef who supposedly worked for Wolfgang puck. My wife wanted to order the French onion soup but it was made with red wine much to our disappointment. The server reassured us that it was zabiha/halal meat. However, the full bar and red wine French onion soup with red wine? The only thing you can do is ask, right?

Went here on a Friday night, thanks to a Groupon. Now, the food here is delicious! A little salty, but delicious. I had the lobster bisque and the rack of lamb. My sister had the shrimp tempura and steak sandwich. I wanted to trade my lamb for her sandwich. Seriously. It was juicy and had the perfect mix of blue cheese and onions on it. When we first arrived, there was only one other table in the whole restaurant. It was 7:30 on a Friday night! Soon after, that table left and my sister and I were the only people in the restaurant. So you’d expect the service to be out of the park right? After waiting quite a while for someone to greet us, I decided to head to the kitchen to find someone. Our waiter came out and apologized for the wait and seated us. I could understand because there was only one table there and nobody else in sight. That was really the only major hiccup I encountered. Not sure how long Eclipse has been open, but some words of advice. Lower your prices and do some more advertising. It’s a great restaurant and more people should be experiencing it!

I have been to eclipse several times and decided that it is simply a place with no identity. On a mondqay night, its dead… Tuesday, full of what seem to be gang bangers… like the kind that may have guns. Other nights its youg people or couples and on the weekend, its a hip hop nightclub. Yet they have an upscale menu and some pretty good food. So…Ecipse, who the hell are you?! More importantly, who are you trying to cater too? I ordered a drity martini which they couldn’t make because they RANOUT of olive juice. What? At a bar? I supose next time they will be out of gin too. Speaking of being out of things, I always ask what’s NOT on the menu tonight, because its ALWAYS something. The excuse is always that some order has somehow not come in every time I am in there. Which is a shame because the food I HAVE had has been great. I’m picky about scallops and they blew me away. But I tried t go back for them twice and they were always out! Eclipse are you a restaurant at all? They serve lunch and there is a very nice looking dining room, but hardly any staff and certainly doesn’t seem to be being run like a restaurant… I have never once seen a seating hostess. They frequently have a groupon which is a good deal… if your willing to deal with the mercurial environment that is eclipse. I am adding this revision and lower stars… I live near eclipse and today Man from the city council came door to door today informing the neighborhood of multiple complaints and ultimately a court case against eclipse. He even invited us to show up to voice our complaints. There are countless problems police and residents have been seeing. For starters, they are operating an illegal valet… And then charging people to park on my street, so there’s no resident parking. The man also eluded to there being some trouble with their liquor license and police reports of drug use. In addition, there was a pretty serious fight that broke out on the weekend spilling into diversely avenue. This used to be a nice quiet north side neighborhood… I think eclipse belongs on the south side. For more information or to voice your complaint, you can contact city alderman joe Moreno at 773278‑2541

The most awesome cornbread EVER!!! We were at the restaurant on a saturday night and we were the only customer seated. We ordered cornbread — AWESOME!!! could NOT stop eating! beef short ribs — good, melt in your mouth meat porterhouse steak — small and thin thought the food was ok, but the atmosphere nice and the service good.

Why do people willfully come here? If you’re reading this you’re smart enough to go elsewhere. Let the jackasses who can’t realize that there is more to a weekend than a ridiculous cover and shitty music come here.

I am actually writing this review while I’m still at the restaurant. The place is so-so. They tried to make the place inviting but the architecture of the place is just not conducive to anything special. Service is good, so far… We ordered the butterfish, chicken, filet mignon and halibut. They were all ok/good. The quality is not up to par with the price point — I think everything should be at least $ 5 cheaper. The wine specials are priced strangely. The same bottle is either $ 5/glass or $ 30/bottle. It just doesn’t add up. Overall it I have to say it is an ok place but definitely delusional in terms of pricing. This place should be more of a $ 12-$ 18 entrée place not $ 20-$ 40. I will not come back. If you are looking for a place around the same area then I would recommend Glen’s Diner or Café 28.

I remember coming to this place when it was Rancho Luna’s. The place is nice on the interior, had no trroble finding a park. Did not get to sample the food, but the bartender was nice.

Food = 2 Stars Service = 4 stars We had been waiting for this place to open all summer and it finally did a few weeks ago. It’s hard to tell what kind of place this is from the outside and the name doesn’t seem to suggest too much either. I had high hopes for this place, although the reviews were a bit mixed about the food. I will say that all the negative comments in the other reviews were pretty spot on in regards to food. The food… Bread basket — easily one of the best things of the meal. They give you mini focaccias that are fresh out of the oven. These were a great first impression.(Unfortunately, as the meal progresses my expectations were definitely let down) French Onion Soup — this onion soup was awesome. It was well balanced and ooey gooey with cheese. Now I’m getting excited for the main courses… First is the Caesar Salad — I order mine with prawns(more like frozen pink shrimp) for some protein. The server sets my salad in front of me and my heart sank when I saw my «prawns.» Then I realize I should have taken advise from my fellow Unilocaler about how small their prawns were. Mind you, the addition of these prawns were $ 9(for 5 shrimp or so). These definitely were not prawns. You can tell with your naked eye that these were frozen shrimp. Your tongue will tell you the texture is that of shrimp(like the ones from your corner chop suey place) and not of a prawn which I think is more like a cross between crawfish/lobster/shrimp. To make matters worst the salad was tasteless. The dressing was totally bland. In fact, to make it edible I fixed it myself a the table. Hey chef, your dressing could use more lemon, salt and black pepper. Total price for the salad = $ 23 or something in that ballpark. What a disappointment… My boyfriend ordered the Porterhouse which was dry and not juicy at all. The taste was Ok(and I say that lightly). It kind of reminded me of that steak that Uncle Rico from(Napolean Dynamite)…you know… the one he nuked? Well it wasn’t that bad, but it surely resembled that piece of steak. To accompany the steak(which didn’t come with a side), we ordered their baked potato with sour cream and chives. The punchline is… they don’t have sour cream. Good thing they knew how to bake a potato… but seriously no sour cream? Totally not worth the $ 5 for the average sized potato sans sour cream. The steak was like $ 40 something. I don’t think I’ll be going back for entrees. The soup – may be. Now the service: The service was great! The staff was very friendly. I think our server might be a little new. The owner or manager or whomever checked on us was very nice. In short, this place is a bit overpriced and highly disappointing; although, their bread basket and french onion soup were delish! I hope they can work out these kinks and perhaps rework their pricing.

Okay, I must say that the owners did a great job with the set-up and lay out of Eclipse. I saw them for over a year do the rehab and renovations on this place, while driving by. It a perfect date mood with the lighting, the seating and vibe.(I like the side bar action=big plus) The staff at Eclipse was hands down the nicest most welcoming restaurant in the area. The waiters were very attentive and friendly throughout the night. The food was just okay, not bad not great. I may of had higher expectations, but the food was still cool in my book. I would say skip the Caesar salad, I wasn’t a fan. The french onion soup was super delicious, and my steak was just okay. I live in the area so I’ll definitely be back for another try sometime soon. Remember great service, okay food, cool romantic neighborhood restaurant.

I held a wine tasting fundraiser for AFSP at the lounge area at Eclipse last night. The room was tastefully decorated and the ambiance was intimate even for large gatherings. The food was nicely presented and the taste was to die for. The wine selection was also very good. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and professional. Eclipse is definitely one restaurant that I would highly recommend. I give the food and wine an A+ and the service is superb!

My girlfriend and I bought the daily Groupon to go eat here. The decoration in the restaurant suggests that this place doesn’t quite know what it is. However, we started with the Tempura battered Prawns. The flavor was delicious. The portion for the money was not quite what I would expect for a $ 14 starter(5 Prawns), but the flavor was spot on. Our Entrees took a little too long to arrive considering we were one of two tables that were sat in the entire restaurant. My girlfriend ordered the Scallops. They tasted very good. They were pan seared in a Miso sauce with flash fried Fennel strips which made for an interesting texture. Very thoughtful dish with respect to marriage of flavor, much like the Prawns. I ordered the Lamb dish for $ 31. My expectations were very high. However, this dish was an absolute failure. The Lamb was over cooked, the wilted leeks and carrots were bland and the fingerling potatoes were«meh». I sent this dish back. I figured for $ 31, I should get exactly what I paid for. There are two reasons I will definitely be going back to Eclipse though. When I sent the dish back, the server handled it very well. He immediately took my dish away and asked if I would like to order something else off of the menu. I said yes and ordered the Roasted chicken. The dish came 10 minutes later and it was literally the best chicken dish I had ever had. It was $ 19 and beautifully cooked and portioned. Chicken on the bone on a bed of perfectly seasoned mash. Between Service and food, Eclipse will not disappoint. I would definitely recommend for a romantic dinner or a special dinner with friends. And afterward, you can hang out in the lounge for drinks and dancing.

i went here the other night, service was good, food was ok, but i really think the management needs help. I witnessed a couple of servers being treated very poorly and it sort of ruined my experience. I was a server once, and I know about working in places like this. Besides this i guess it could be okay. I may come again, don’t know if I would recommend though.

Yum! Great wine selection both by the glass or bottle. The best lobster bisque I’ve ever had. Each course was perfectly cooked and the service was top notch. We will definitely go back!

My fiancé and I had been watching this place waiting for it to open since we drive by it every single day on the way to the train. It’s really easy to find right on Diversey before you cross under the interstate. Finally, while his brother was in town, we had a chance to try it. It was divided into two areas – a nicer restaurant and a cool lounge. We decided to sit in the lounge since I wanted some drinks. We had an AMAZING waitress… several cocktails, and I really liked the champagne flight that was only around $ 9 I think. I had a ceaser salad — my fiancé had the macaroni and cheese and a specialty pizza and his brother got the sliders. All of our food was great, very unique… but this place gets its 5 stars from the cool, chill ambiance of the lounge. Honestly, you could go into this place dressed in a super nice cocktail dress or jeans, and still feel comfortable. Everyone was super friendly, and I can’t wait to go back – try this place out, I was SO happy we did!
