There is a place in our soul where fresh made bread comes out of the oven to rule our world and take over our very being… Because of this, bread stone exists. The guys know a thing or two about making lovin in their oven… Ok enough cliché verbiage. This place is delicious. Everyday they make amazing pita, Samoon, flat bread, lahamajeen, middle eastern pizza, breads with roasted veggies cheese and zataar. Hand rolled, fire ovens and lots of love goes into this. These guys are all new to the country sharing an art of baking passed on for generations. Come early they close early and are sold out before you know it. Tell em I sent ya!

Strolling east on Devon with the intent of finding a samosa or two to snack on, I walked by a small storefront with an indecipherable sign(at least to me). If it says Eastern Breadstone Bakery somewhere I missed that entirely. What I could understand, though, is that rows of fresh bread rounds lined the counters and that a wood oven was in action. Okay, count me in. There is no posted list or menu board of what is offered but when I saw the pita-like rounds topped with za’atar, the decision was made. Cheese topped and a vegetable version also were on hand the morning I was there. He packed up a brown paper bag with five bread. Apparently, that is the smallest number you can buy, something that seems to be refuted by other Unilocal posts. No biggie; a sack of warm bread slicked with olive oil and made pungent with a liberal amount of za’atar for $ 5 seemed like a good enough deal to me. It was rapturous love at first bite. The bread is nicely chewy and the topping divine. He told me I could freeze the extras. Yeah, right… I ate three within the first two hours. To one of them I added some fresh Syrian cheese that I nabbed at a nearby market. An absolute gem of a place that I swear I will stop in every time I drive by.

Too bad no zaatar when I got there. But in the case ready to go(in plastic unfortunately so that you can see what they are, but makes them no longer crispy) were meat, cheese, and veggie(spicy tomato base) round flatbreads(6″ across) bagged up in sets of 4. There was also one chicken roll pastry in the oven. A bag of 4 veggie and the chicken roll was $ 6. Supposedly open 7 days of the week until 4pm. I’ve had trouble getting there while it was open before. JUNE3rdUPDATE: Got some breads with potato filling this time as well as some zaatar. At 9am they had some flexibility to bake two zaatar breads on request for me while I made other bakery stops down the street. Warmed up in a pan at home they were almost good as fresh from oven.

How are there not more reviews of this place? The bread is fresh, chewy, amazing. And it’s so cheap. I have a hard time getting there during the hours he’s open, and usually by the time I do get there all the zaatar bread is gone, but no matter – the puffy, diamond-shaped samoons are plentiful and awesome. I’ll do my part to make sure Eastern Breadstone stays in business; you should too.

The best bread! They also have these wonderful meat, veggie and cheese pies. Everything I have had is delicous and fresh(and cheap). 6 sandwhich breads, 4 meat pies, 4 cheese pies for $ 12.

My friend Gorges told me about this place as I was telling him about the Argo Bakery a few doors down. This place has the best price on Iraqi Tandoor bread. $ 2!!! I got 6 sandwhich size flat bread rolls and 4 large flat bread circles all for $ 4. I about fell over! This is a new business and I am sure could use the support spreading the word. I do not think they sell much else, at least not yet, but this place is a keeper. Their hours are 7AM-5pm. Cash only.
