Friendly staff but the chicken burrito was honestly disgusting. It was watery and had an unnecessary brown sauce on it. Should of been chopped and not shredded in my opinion

Been coming here on and off since its inception along with several management changes… not sure about the ownership. The food has always been very good here. however on this visit, service just stunk… The very uninterested waitress and gave us chips and salsa… no napkins no plates… Took our order and never came back… gave us our food never checked back again. Someone should train that waitress a little bit better

Let me begin by saying, I have been ordering from this place for many years now and loved this place better than Amigo Chino steak meat-wise. I hate to down this place but I hope the new owners read this because this is a mild suggestion. Ever since new owners or management has taken over, the meat portions on a taco, torta, enchilada, etc. has turn into the size of GROUNDBEEF or pellet size crumbs I can feed to my fish! The taste as well has changed, I get it, char-grilled but does it really have to taste like you scraped it literally«off the grill»? The previous owners had bigger sized steak meat as well. I almost thought they had my order wrong when I ordered an enchilada plate with steak not ground beef. The portions here have always been small visually unlike Amigo Chino with their extraordinary size torta that 4 people can eat but I have always loved the meat from Mucho Gusto. But now the taste has become a disaster, I understand increase the heat equals faster service but don’t sacrifice flavor. I rather wait for good cooked meal than to have fast food garbage. Either scrape off all the excess charred burnt tasting meat off the grill before cooking or lower the fire, cause everyone knows how a burnt tasting piece of meat taste like on a grill and this is not even a t-bone steak, its little pellets of meat that pigeons can begin to eat now. A fancy little tablet looking register, a pretty face to go behind it slash waitress, and customer service has improved but all that can only go so far. If you don’t have good tasting food, I don’t know what will happen to you guys. Now every time I order I hope that the meat just didn’t burn in flames. Good luck to you guys, When Amigo Chino opens back up, you will need some serious thinking to do, and I don’t even like Amigo Chino, their meat is even worst, just to be honest!

This place it my default neighborhood Mexican joint, and my family and I order dinner from here at least once every 4 – 6 weeks. I can’t comment on the atmosphere or the service, as we always order for pickup, but I could not be more pleased with the food. I’m a big fan of the pastor tacos and nachos with avacado, while my boyfriend always orders and sings the praises of their steak burrito.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it’s not closer to my house haha. I tried this spot with my girl last night for the first time and it was excellent. We had a takeout order and all the things we asked for as far as customizing our orders was on point. I had a steak taco dinner and the meat was awesome. Char-grilled, real carne asada(not to be mistaken with bistek). My girl had the chicken flauta dinner and that was excellent. Definitely a new go-to spot for tacos in my book. I have some of thee best tacos joint in my neighborhood so I definitely know good tacos when I taste them!

Ehhhh, just alright. I ordered a pork torta, a steak taco, and a barbacoa taco. I ordered the tacos with onion, cilantro, and avocado and one of the tacos I got had lettuce and tomato on it. Now the place was dead when I walked in so there’s no excuse for my order being wrong. Talking to the register lady, she didn’t sound confident as to how good the food was. Apparently she’s worked at several Mexican restaurants.

Terrible customer service. Delivery took over 2 ½ hours with no communication from the restaurant. After waiting all that time they forgot one of the main items on the order. Then they were refusing to refund the cost of the item they forgot on my order and wanted to give me a credit. First and last time I’ll order from there. Really crappy and rude people that have no concept of customer service.

Very disappointed. I’ve ordered from this place multiple times in the past, but today was awful. Ordered cheese only enchiladas and received chicken enchiladas. Asked for no onions on anything. Received onions on multiple items. The quesadilla was so greasy it wasn’t even being held together by the melted cheese and just tore into shreds when moved. Sorry, De Mucho Gusto, everyone has a bad night, but three mistakes is too many for one meal.

Bad service. Waited 1 hour and 45 mins for food until I had to call and cancel. The guy who I spoke to with no remorse said«ok bye, Don’t order from this place.» Rude!!!

Pico de gallo is spicy fresh salsa, they apparently think its just vegetables w/o jalapeño… its not pico de gallo then. steak dinner was really bad steak, no flavor. Burrito was meh, wasnt even wrapped up completely the insides were flowing. No interest in going back.

I really love the cheese enchiladas & the chilaquiles and order from them all the time, but they are never there in the mornings. For example, it is 10:23AM and the phone rings and rings. This is not the first time, it’s actually more like the 5th time. I don’t know why they say that they open at 9:00AM. Please update your hours of operation.

Quick and Easy, Walked in with a group of friends. Very casual but the food was pretty good. I ordered a Torta with all the trimmings. Sou rcream, cheese, beans, LTO, super good. If in the neighborhood I’d definitely go back. Beware of the green salsa… sooo spicey.

Mucho TERRIBLE! One star is too many. Thought I’d try again since they changed ownership. Food is really bad since the new owners took over. Ordered a torta — mostly all lettuce, not much else. Very little egg and chorizo and not even any beans or cheese. Everything was dried out and burned. I called ahead so it would be ready when I got there. Took 3 times as long as they promised me to make one sandwich. Won’t go back again. Don’t waste your time or money either.

Update on this place. The quality has gone totally downhill. Just got back from a long flight on a Sunday evening and wanted something I knew should have been decent. The place was empty, except for someone the girl behind the counter knew, I assume she was the owner. She kept asking him why haven’t I seen you in a long time. I soon found out why he hasn’t been back in a while. I ordered a carne asada burrito, my girlfriend ordered a tamale and a taco. I asked for one extra sauce and she demanded .25 which was annoying. I could see if I asked for 2 or 3, but I come here often. No customer loyalty. Got home, took a bite of my burrito, it was terrible. pieces of burnt charred meat, disgusting. Obviously, since this was Sunday late night the cook reheated meat left over from maybe a week ago? I dunno. My girlfriend’s tamale was dry and and inedible. Her Taco was as bad as my burrito. Im with the guy who hasn’t been back in a while. I don’t know if I will ever return. They can keep their sauce too! PS: I never wrote about this before because not every place does everything well but after my experience, game over. Do not ever get their taco special. Its a weird ground beef taco. It reminds me of manwhich meat disguised in a taco shell. Yick! Strike Two, They Changed the sign and improved the outside, but made the food worse. Strike three!

Had lunch here today. I was at nearby Portage Park and was looking to get lunch. I decided to check Unilocal on my phone and located De Mucho Gusto. I thought the Chips and Salsa was OK. The chips were good, but not the best I’ve had. The salsa both red and green had a kick to them. For lunch I decided to try the tacos. I had a steak and a ground beef taco. The steak was tender and full of flavor. The toppings were fresh and complimented the steak very well. The ground beef had a lot of flavor and very juicy. It’s very simple inside, but clean. The people were very friendly. I will be returning…

When I moved into the Portage Park neighborhood 3 years ago, this restaurant was under different management. The food was greasy and more than once, I regretted eating there. BUTTHEN… something delightful happened. The new owners moved and turned the place around. The ambiance is like being in a busy latin kitchen, the telenovelas are on every tv, the owner’s family members are eating at the tables and there is laughter everywhere. Whenever, I’m home for lunch, I will always bypass the Mexican giant on the corner and go to Mucho Gusto for my taco fix. They already know me there and are ready to serve me up whatever deliciousness my heart desires. One the occasion that I actually go for a sit down dinner there, the service is impeccable. The young waitress with the heart of gold is always ready with water or the drink of your choice, she is attentive and delightful. The food is home cooked to perfection. I always say that if you aren’t from Portage Park, you’ll probably end up at Amigo Chino where I find the service atrocious and the food over priced. But if you are from the neighborhood, you will always choose Mucho Gusto. This is a business that my stomach is happy to support.

Loved this place under the previous owners, and am sad they are no longer there. Been going there since I moved to Portage Park in 2001. Food is always high quality. Atmosphere… not so much, but the quality of the food always drew us back. Have eaten there several times since the new owners took over and am pleased to say that the quality has not suffered a bit.
