Craft Wine Spirits Beer

I drove 40 minutes (round trip in traffic) to pick up my wine club wine and the store wasn’t open as stated at 1 (waited until 1:15). I got a call back from the guy saying he was sick and if I would’ve waited 1 minute longer he would’ve been there (Ok I get it, shit happens). What really upset me is that he mocked me when I said it was extremely inconvenient to come «all the way from West Town». He, again, mocked me when I said I have a busy schedule that doesn’t allow me to make it up that way often (why do you think I have 4 month’s worth that hasn’t been picked up??). I wasn’t allowed to get my money back for the wine b/​c he «would’ve been at a loss» (even though the wine is still in his possession). I don’t know, I guess if I owned a small business in this city, I would’ve found a way to get the 8 bottles of wine to my customer or provided a small store credit as a gesture for the inconvenience. What do I know… I’m just in sales.

3.5 stars. I’ve been here half a dozen times, purely for beer. Their beer selection is nowhere near Binny’s (they have two double-​door coolers, I’m guessing around 50 varieties?) but it’s all solid craft brews, including some things I can’t find elsewhere without hopping on the train for a few stops (such as Surly). The staff has been helpful when I’ve had questions.
Otherwise – and this is just my choosy opinion – the atmosphere is mostly why I mark it down. Like other small specialty stores, there’s kind of an intimate hush and as I look at beer I know the one employee is just kind of sitting there watching me look at beer, and it’s a little weird, know what I mean? They’ve also told me about their tastings, and they’re a little on the pushy/​desperate side: «So we’ll see you Wednesday at the tasting, **right?**» Hey, don’t do that. The employees are nice but they kind of bro-​dude it up with me, and that’s just not who I am, brah. Don’t mean to be a crank, it’s just not really my style, but I could imagine people really liking this place, so go and check it out.

Came here looking for a good Chicago beer, and Tim was very helpful in picking one out. They had just finished a wine hour, and it sounds like there are all sorts of great events I look forward to checking out at this local gem.

Helpful service and good selection. Stopped in for the Friday night wine tasting and walked out with three reasonably priced bottles of wine. The staff are knowledgeable and provide good advice about the wine. I’ll definitely be back.

Never been here before but Mike who works here totally helped break into my car to unlock my door.
