I have never been to another restaurant with as many legit Guatemalan dishes as BryAnna’s. I had the pepian. Next time I’m trying the jocon. Pupusas were excellent and made with queso seco for some stinkiness. I’ll be back soon.

Came her last night for dinner and ordered the combo a la churrasquera! came with 2 steaks, 2 pork chops and 2 sausage as well as rice, beans and guacamole! More than enough food for 2. Meat was tender and seasoned just right. Salsa and chips were on point! Will definitely come back.

Great Central American cuisine. Definitely, will be returning. It’s BYOB too! A refreshing addition to the west rogers park/Lincoln area

C and I were headed to one of our usual haunts for dinner when we noticed a new place. A quick U-turn brought back to BryAnna’s Restaurant and we decided to give it a try, especially since we couldn’t remember ever having either Guatamalan or Salvadoran cuisine before. We were curious whether the influence would be entirely from Mexico or there would be a South American spin. It seems to us that there is definitely South American influence. In any case, we liked almost everything we ordered. One of the appetizers, essentially a deep-fried taco filled some meat and cabbage, didn’t do much for us(not much flavor happening), but everything else was superb. The food was above average. Food — 4 stars Ambiance — 3 stars Service — 3 stars BYBO — Yes, thank you. A word about the ambiance: I have observed, at a number of Latin American restaurants, that there is seems to be an identity crisis taking place. One the one hand, they are nicely decorated and even have cloth napery and tea lights, which lend themselves to a potentially upscale and/or romantic atmosphere. But simultaneously, these restaurants have elements of a fast food place mixed with a sports bar. In this case, the potentially pleasant ambiance was undermined by lighting that was far too bright, destroying the ambiance that would otherwise(easily) be achieved. Simple fix(dimmers), but the room suffers further: Three large TV panels with mismatched channels playing that have the sound turned on just enough to be heard. A disasterous result, especially when combined with a too loud boom box that is cranking out some sort of Latin pop/rock-like music, interspersed with random ADVERTISEMENTS(!!!) that blast every ten minutes at about 30% higher volume than the actual music. OMG. Please, management, turn down the lights, lose the boom box, put in a speaker system and play ethnic Guatamalan and Salvadoran music, and sell those TV’s to fund the speaker system. Additional, possibly unwanted tips: Provide silverware on individual napkins. Wrapping utensils with napkins is an awful idea. It sets a tone. Not a good tone. Also, just in case: Overcome any inkling, if you have one, to add horrid LED strip lighting on the exterior. I, for one(actually that’s two of us) refuse to walk into any restaurant(any establishment) that has those godawful lights. Finally, refrain from adding posters on the windows advertising lunch specials and the like. Focus on ambiance, quality, and elegance. You are so so close. Play up the ethnic aspect! Aside from the few ambiance issues, we really enjoyed our visit and we’ll be back.
