I have ordered cakes from here on several occasions. About 18 months ago I ordered 2 cakes from here. First of all the cakes looked amazing! The birthday boy was big into cards s The owner of the bakery drove my cakes all the way out to Arlington Heights where my party was. One of the cakes was a lemon (yes, this birthday party had some seniors in attendance) and the other was a magnificent chocolate cake. That party was almost 2 years ago and I still get people asking me for baking for the takings number. If you want your guests to be raving how great the cake was, Baking for the Taking is the way to go!

The biggest miracle that their master baker pulled off was making me like apple pie. I realize that not liking apple pie in general makes me a communist, but their pie is so good that I’m considering putting an American flag decal on my car. The other strength of this delicious bakery is the frosting– the peanut butter is my favorite, although I’ve sampled other delicious ones as well. The best part is that the frosting truly gets to be the icing on the cake rather than what it can be from other bakers– a saviour of lifeless, dry cake.

I ordered two cakes for my twins birthday and they were fantastic! The peanut butter cream cheese filling is just superb!!! My boys loved the chocolate mouse filling as well. The cakes are perfect, moist, flavorful, and the right amount of sweetness. I had no problems ordering the cakes, the customer service was excellent. I have ordered from many different bakeries and usually party-goers say oh good cakes, but this time my family was over the top gushing about these cakes and wanting more details on the baker. Highly recommended!!!

I love Baking for the Taking. They baked mini cupcakes for our wedding and every single cupcake was gone by the end of the night. I have also had them make cakes and treats for other events and we have always been blown away. Leslie’s peanut butter frosting is to-die-for and her banana cake with cream cheese frosting is out-of-this-world. As an added bonus, I have found their prices(and delivery fees) to be very reasonable compared to the other chic bakeries downtown and in Bucktown.

yeah, they never got back to me about trying out some of their cakes. So, customer service loses them a point. I guess I don’t matter since I’m not getting married & I’m not spending thousands of dollars on a cake. I really wish they would have a small store front since so many are raving about it.

My maid of honor and I went for a cake tasting not too long ago. They are located very close to where we live and we knew just where it was. Except when we got there we were confused — the only thing on that block was the old, closed Gladstone Bakery and nothing else that even resembled a business, much less a bakery. Figuring I got the address wrong, I started to head back to the car when a guy comes out of an old, beat-up, unmarked door. He sees us standing there and says«oh, you looking for Baking for the Taking? In here». Well, once inside it was a very clean, modern kitchen, but what the heck? Could we have a sign on the door — any sign — considering this was a rather sketchy looking building exterior? It was like being granted access to some kind of speakeasy… say the password and all that spy shit. Doesnt make sense! The cakes we tried were fantastic, and the girls working there were very nice. Unfortunately they turned out to be a high quote due to a lot of «upcharges»; for everything from changing the height of a tier to adding fruit. Plus the cake decorator had a very heavy hand — meaning, if you are looking for tiny, delicate decorations, dont come here, her style is better suited to big, chunky designs.

These are some of the best baked goods/wedding cakes I have EVER had! I have been to several weddings and several events where they have made the deserts and it was literally to DIE for! I highly recommend!!!

I tried just about everything Baking for the Taking had to offer at the Unilocal Summerfest Party, literally, everything. I think I would have licked crumbs off the table had it been socially acceptable. I first tried the chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. Automatically a winning combination flavor wise for me, but this cupcake was insane. I immediately ran to their table to try everything else. There were old favorites in mini cupcake form, red velvet, cheesecake, and good old chocolate. I was BLOWNAWAY by the white chocolate macadamia bars. I generally don’t like white chocolate, but these were buttery and brown sugary and nutty and UNBELIEVABLE! I chatted with the women at the table and I was pleased with how custom they can make any of their treats. I inquired about a carrot cake. The samples didn’t have nuts or raisons. I was told they generally don’t use a ton of nuts because of the high rate of allergy, but they would be happy to customize a cake with nuts or raisons in it if I so choose. I’m ordering a carrot cake and some white chocolate macadamia bars. For what occasion you ask? Because they’re delicious and I want them.

Baking For The Taking is Awesome! The cake is so delicious and the frosting is the best I have ever eaten. I have eaten many treats from Baking For The Taking and my personal favorite is the red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I ordered a large cake for a family party over memorial day. The cake was a huge hit not only was it decorated beautifully, there wasn’t a morsel of cake leftover. People were smuggling out pieces in napkins. Baking For The Taking = YUM!!!
