Delicious. Reasonably priced. Friendly. Perhaps a shame it is BYOB, vs having a huge selection of saki? Does not matter. There is a bar with«package» sales next door, and a liquor store across the street. OK, back to fish. A typical selection of rolls. I may seen one or two specialty rolls that I had not seen before? The spicy tuna is a bit spicier than others; a positive attribute from my POV. Two visits now, with different items on both visit. Everything was great.

I love this restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere, good jazz music, very friendly wait staff. The sushi is amazing, but I go for the Ramen and Udon. On those snowy or rainy Chicago days, their ramen absolutely hits the spot, it’s so good. Plus it’s very reasonably priced(they even offer a Loyola student discount).

My wife and I were in Chicago for a family occasion and then business meetings when we had a free evening. We looked at Unilocal for a well reviewed, family-owned, ethnic restaurant. Bonus points for one with a BYOB policy. We scored. The husband and wife owners greeted is warmly as we walked in the door. That small gesture made a world of difference yet we weren’t surprised given the similar comments by other Unilocalers. Their son — a college student — was our waiter and did a great job. He clearly took pride in his family’s ability to serve great food and make their customers feel like guests. We bought a bottle of sake across the street for $ 16.95 and enjoyed that with dinner. We went with Combo B, vegetable fried dumplings, and a dragon roll. The combo was superb. Every piece of sushi was well prepared by the father feet away from us and delicious. The combo gave you the option of a California or spicy tuna roll. We went with the latter. Yum. Loved it! The eel sushi was the best I’ve had and I’ve had my fair share. Warm, tasty, melt in your mouth. That’s why we went with the dragon roll as its primary protein was eel and it also had avocado and shrimp tempura. Again, yum. The dumplings were very good but not any better than many others I’ve had. I would order them again but they weren’t good enough to bring us back if that had been all we are. As a bonus, we received 10 percent off for checking in on Unilocal.Loyola students get the same discount with student ID’s. I very much look forward to coming back.

This is a tiny mom and pop joint. Really friendly owners. We had a small group and got an array of sushi choices. There are only a handful of tables but we went mid afternoon so it wasn’t crowded at all. They seem to do a steady stream of carry out orders even mid afternoon. With our group we were able to get a number of choices. Everything was top notch. Big variety so you can customize the choice of seafood, vegetables, spiciness and texture to your heart’s content. The Latino roll was a hit with everyone. Recommended and I will be back. You may even be lucky and snag one of the free two hour parking spots across the street.

This place is awesome. Just had the bibimbop(delicious), they have great rolls and the ramen is pretty great too. Great place for dinner after music lessons down the street. Glad to have Asahi Roll & Noodles in the neighborhood.

A love letter to sushi, I’ve never found a place that makes me so happy. Asahi is a little place with about 6 tables, with a big window and a sushi bar. We have been to Asahi about 5 times since it opened. I wish I could come here everyday. Let’s discuss first how amazing the owners are. Our tea was never empty, they answer all of our questions and they have that personality that makes you just want to hug them. Everytime my husband orders the shrimp spring roll. It is fresh and refreshing. We also really enjoy the gyoza and the cucumber salad. Once we get past the apps, both my husband and I go in different directions. Hubs always gets something hot. The favorite, spicy ramen. Now, you have to like spice to get the spicy ramen, otherwise, the Shoyu is for you. Oh and the Yaki Udon… yum. All sushi, all the time. Soft shell crab is my favorite food,(because seafood is my favorite food group) and their spider roll is delicious. I haven’t been disappointed by any of their regular rolls. I want to take the sauce in their spicy tuna and put it on everything.(Except maybe cereal) Their sushi prices are very competitive with other sushi places in the neighborhood. So if you want a specialty roll, which are LARGE, try one of these. The smokey bear is creamy and a little sweet. It has smoked salmon and eel. It is a little heavier because of the cream cheese. Super filling. Makes my tummy happy. Latino Loco,(because we like heat, were you even paying attention?) Spicy salmon with cilantro and jalapeño. So hot. Last, but not least, the Avocado Torch. It’s spicy tuna with flamed avocado? Now I don’t know if I like hot avocado, but it WORKS. And it’s worth it. Don’t forget your mochi! They have green tea and strawberry and redbean. Psst get the green tea. Asahi, I don’t remember where I got sushi before, and I never want to have to remember. I could go on and on about the yumminess of this place. i hope you stay in RP and my heart/tummy forever. Sincerely, Happy Customer

As we say in restaurant world, «Hole in the Wall», this one truly defines that term more than anything. Small and cozy, run by a fantastic couple, the food is unbelievably top notch quality and prepared to your best satisfaction. They are new in Rogers Park/Loyola Univ area, I am betting they will be discovered by so many, very soon, then I will have to fight to get my spot there… Yummy Tummy…

I’ve lived in Rogers Park for years and tonight was my first time eating at Asahi Roll — I wish I’d tried it sooner! My husband and I split the beef & asparagus appetizer, the Asahi Roll, and the May Flower roll. All were delicious and fresh and well crafted. The entire staff was so nice too! The menu is surprisingly large and it’s within walking distance, so we will definitely be back for more!

This place is amazing, my husband and I LOVE sushi and are always searching for nothing but the best. Our favorite sushi places are kind of far so we were looking for a place close by. I did some Unilocal searching and decided to try this place, we were not disappointed! The staff is kind, and the quality of the sushi exceeds expectations. Good customer service paired with good quality, what more can you ask for? When I say my husband and I love sushi I mean we go for the gold when it comes to sushi. We aren’t the type of ppl to say we love sushi and then when asked what our favorite kind is we don’t say the California roll because that is BASIC. So when I say this is good stuff it means we’ve had the the special rolls and have a explored their menu to the fullest.

Love this place! It’s about a half a block away from my apartment, so I eat here way too much. My favorites are the miami and spicy tuna roll The sushi is always very delicious and I always order way too much. The sushi chef is nice and the wait staff is friendly and makes conversation while I wait. I 100% recommend this place to anyone. Plus, it’s BYOB! Always a great addition to a great restaurant.

I came here on a Saturday for lunch and ordered a spicy tuna roll and a salmon avocado roll. The sushi was delicious! Very fresh rice, generous portions of fish, crafted well, and all at a reasonable price. This is a great addition to Rogers Park, and I’m looking forward to going here for date night dinner!

This is such a gem in Rogers Park!!! Every single item we ordered were fresh and delightful! You must try Avocado Torch Rolls and Asparagus Beef for appetizers!!! If you are looking for a dish with soup or broth, try Oden Udon and if you like a spicy one, try Spicy Ramen! Definitely a kick to it! I am going to come back and try all the other dishes!

Hidden little gem of a Sushi joint. Doesn’t look fancy from the outside but everything I have tried there has been great and affordable. Everything tastes fresh, made to order, personal touches abound. Love the spicy tuna roll and the ginger dressing on the house salad.

I hesitated for months trying the latest incarnation of this place. The two previous sushi joints in this spot were pretty mediocre. Finally stopped in for a couple of rolls and nigiri. So glad I did! Delicious, fresh and skillfully made. Owners are delightful.

Great spot in the neighborhood and friendly staff. Great quality food! I like the dragon rolls mostly I usually get the green dragon roll. The Mizo and the ginger salad is also good. It’s located near the beach and is a nice walk if you located near by.

I am always confused about why this restaurant isn’t more crowded when I come inside. On three separate occasions, I’ve walked in and no one was there. The music wasn’t even on until I sat down, and the staff looked somewhere between bored and concerned. It could be the time of day I’m going, but this place is so underrated. I love vegan sushi rolls. Their miso soup is delicious. Their avocado maki rolls are incredible. The server and cook are always nice. It’s quiet and good for a date night. My only suspicion about why it doesn’t get more customers are the two Chinese food restaurants directly across the street with terrible food that I always avoid. When I went in with a guest, my guest was looking for the usual greasy, fried foods. Asahi is not that. You eat with chopsticks. The food is fresh, made to order and healthy. Only downside is their drink selection is a refrigerator full of sugary drinks, and I wish they had more options outside of cans or bottles. Green tea is always a good alternative. Only other con is the guest I was with ordered salad, and they said they were out. How could a restaurant this healthy be out of salad? That was about as odd to me as some place like Popeye’s being out of chicken. If you don’t already like or want to test out Japanese food, you may be better off at the greasy spots near the theater. But if you’re looking to eat healthier, this is that place!

What a hidden gem! It’s Spring, which means snow in Chicago and I wanted some miso soup to warm me up. Found Asahi and I’m so glad I did! What a hidden gem :-) walked in with my sis at 8:3pm and there was a steady stream of traffic for pick-up orders which we took as a good sign. We both ordered miso which was some of the best I’ve had. Warm, flavorful and salty(my preference). My sis ordered spicy sushi rolls and I ordered the bulgogi roll. Thumbs on both! It was my first bulgogi but not my last. Small little restaurant(about 6 tables), great ambiance, really sweet owner and personable waitstaff. And most importantly, great food!
