Aiyu Hair Design

I went here a couple times for cut and color. I think my colorist was too afraid to leave the lightener in. I wanted to lighten for summer and I ended up with extremely brassy orange highlights and had to return for a tone. Went somewhere else two weeks later for a real color job. And the cut was a barely noticeable trim. Prices rather high for what you get. Not very experienced stylists.

The morning of my appointment on one of the most important events I have ever hosted, I got a call saying my morning appointment is canceled. Maybe they are okay to use if you’re just scheduling a haircut, but if you’re scheduling something more formal, beware… there are two other reviews in here saying that they canceled the appointment last second as well. Be very wary when you schedule with these guys… especially if you have something important going on.

This is by far my favorite hair salon! After months of searching for a hair salon, since my previous hairstylist left the other location I went to, I have only positive things to say about it! First off Joanne is super sweet and nice! She does an extravagant job with hair color and cut! I have received so many compliments about the color and how well it suits me!!! I can’t wait for my next hair appointment!!!

Just had my first appointment at Aiyu and can’t say enough! Warm welcome from the moment I walked in! I was asked by Dana about any concerns about my hair, but I felt instanly trusting and it was well placed… I walked out with beautiful color and cut and felt like I just met an amazing person I can’t wait to see again. Great experience… can’t say enough and the prices are great!!!

I just moved to the area and wanted to try somewhere close. So I randomly made an apt with Joanne. It was such a great experience. The salon itself was welcoming, clean and modern. Joanne was so personable and enjoyable, I didn’t want to leave. This is officially my new place to always go when I need anything for my hair.

I have been looking for a salon in my neighborhood and found it! Aiyu is a great place. Joanne cut my hair and she was so nice, sweet, talkative and professional all at the same time! I met Dana, the owner as well, and she seemed to be very fun and a great stylist too.
Prior to visiting this salon I got a not-​so-​good haircut and I decided I needed a hair change. So after consulting with Joanne we went with a cute, stylish AND problem solving cut.
I will definitely be back and highly recommend Aiyu!

It has been years since I found a stylist who understood what I wanted and was able to make my hair look this good. Dana, the owner, who is also so sweet and fun, cut almost 8″ off my hair my first time seeing her, and it looked amazing!
I have lots of hair and it ranges from kind of wavy in the front to full on S waves in the back, so it’s not the easiest to work with. Dana just knew exactly how to shape it so that it lays right, but still has lots of swing and movement. This salon is such a great find for me. Compared to what other salons charge, it is so reasonable to leave with hair you love!

This was my second time getting my hair cut at Aiyu… I love Dana… she knew exactly what color to use on my grey’s and this last appointment added highlights… My hair looks great and I have gotten many complements… I was going to another salon for over 15 years… and decided I needed a change. I was very nervous at first but Dana is wonderful. She is welcoming and I immediately felt at ease. I have found my new salon and I love it… Thanks Dana you are the best!

this is my first review on Unilocal.I just had to review since I know lots of people like myself that have a hard time finding a good salon. and because of prior bad experiences, I had not cut my hair in over 8 months. I moved back to my hometown Chicago from NY after 10 years so I was looking for a hair stylist to stick with. shortly after I moved back in spring of 2013, I had a bday party to attend and needed a cut badly. on short notice I stopped by the nearest chain hair cuttery. it’s wasn’t a bad cut necessarily but it wasn’t a good one either. she missed trimming at least one layer. and she scolded me for having dry hair, doing keratin, and not cutting my hair every 6 – 8 weeks.
fast forward to this past Friday. I read a few reviews and also wanted to stay within driving distance of Jefferson Park. so Aiyu peaked my interest. I was super nervous but as soon as I walked in Dana was so warm and inviting. the place is small but very neat and modern. she mentioned her training and education which did put me a little at ease.
conversation flowed with Dana, but I never felt pressure to converse (sometimes I just want to read a magazine or play with my phone and not necessarily have an hour long convo while my hair is being done) (FYI: I’m an introvert). but I felt really comfortable. the wash was great, she conditioned my hair more because it was dry and needed lots of dead hair cut off. but she never once scolded me.
she asked and actually listened for what I wanted. and I too asked her opinion on length to cut but she didn’t go crazy cutting my hair all short. I wanted a cut but I still wanted my long hair. when she was done I admit I was a little surprised, it was probably the best cut I’ve had. all the dead hair was gone. my hair was still long, and it was shiny and soft and so flowy. my boss complemented me as soon as I walked in to the office yesterday.
I’m loyal in that when I find good service (car shop, hair salon, etc.), I stick with them forever. Extra points for sending me a «thank you» email.

I have kinky curly hair. A co-​worker recommended her «amazing hair stylist Dana». I tried to get on schedule with Dana, instead ended up scheduling with Joanne. I was so nervous because this hair of mine is not easy. I got my roots touched up (cover lots of gray) and wanted the brassy/​orangy color my hair turned into gone, along with that some peek-​a-​boo highlights. Joanne was great! I love it and am going back for some more highlights. Joanne here I come!!!

I just got home from my first visit with Dana at Aiyu and let me tell you, I got a fantastic cut! I was so scarred from another salon that I hadn’t had a hair cut in 11 months. Dana listened to my needs, asked me about my lifestyle, and worked her magic on me… Viola! My hair was once again back to being awesome. Dana was so kind and welcoming, she really made me feel great about the whole experience. I’m Soooo happy — I found my new Salon! Yay!

I went in on a glowing recommendation from my neighbor. I was getting drastic color done, going from blonde to dark brown. I had an appointment with Mac and he did an awesome job. Joanne also gave great suggestions. The salon had such a comfortable feel about it, very welcoming. I will certainly be going back.

Mac gave me the best haircut I have had in years. He is very talented, patient, and listens to what you want. The entire staff is inviting and helpful, the products are excellent, booking is easy. The northwest side of Chicago is lucky to have a salon of this caliber.

This salon is has a very peaceful feeling. My stylist, Joann, gave me a highlights and a cut. She was very attentive and asked the right kinds of questions to understand what I was looking for and then made great suggestions.

I woke up today and saw my new cut and color and thougt how lucky I was o have found Aiyu and Dana. This was my third visit. I thought that the best way to say thank you was to let others know about how great this place is. Here is what is great about Aiyu.
Dana is great with both cuts and color. I had been going to a salon for 10 years and found it difficult to book an appointment with my guy for color because he lowered his hours. I was recommended to Dana. The first time Dana did my color she explained the color product she uses and why my former color was leaving my color brassy. She uses the best products and I can say that my hair has not looked at all brassy since. In fact my color had not looked this good since I went to an exensive place in Wicker Park nearly a decade ago. The color was so perfect I called her the next day to tell her how impressed I was that she was able to get it so right the first time.
We are now talking about extensions as my hair is starting to thin a bit. She talked about a modified version where we would add fullness and the cost and time involved would be reasonable for me. So for technique and knowledge Dana is amazing.
Let’s talk about Dana herself. She is the person you want to spend an hour or two with (if you get cut, color and highlights like I did yesterday). She is one of those rare people that is always upbeat, kind, and great to talk with. You leave her salon feeling great about yourself.
In the end what more can you ask.

I have been looking for a great hair stylist for too long and have now found one that I hope to keep forever. Dana understood what I wanted and made it happen! The salon is super private and very cool! Dana uses very high end products and it does make a difference. This was the first time I have ever had my hair treated and didn’t itch afterward. I have been to some local expensive salons in the area and my experience was not good. Prices are very reasonable and fair. I lovethissalon and suggest you try it… chances are… you willbe back.

Love my hair highlights! Natural looking and consistently awesome every time. This salon is also well priced. Dana is very sweet, interesting and fun to talk to. I really look forward to my hair appointments. I also love that she promotes local artists on her walls.

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for a place like this. I found Aiyu through a friend and could not be happier. Dana listens to what you want and makes great suggestions. I often find sitting in that chair to be awkward, but Dana is super sweet and friendly. The place is small but well decorated and welcoming. AND she cut my hair exactly how I wanted!

Dana, the owner, is really friendly and outgoing. I loved my cut and color. She’s very intuitive about what kind of style will work, esp for the harried mom haha… The space is cozy and intimate. Prices very reasonable. I definitely recommend this place to anyone on or near the NW side!

Aiyu Hair Design is a breath of fresh air from other salons I’ve been to. Not only is it the beautifully decorated, but I felt immediately welcomed and comfortable the minute I walked in. My hair has never before looked or felt better. Great cut combined with great products, my hair looks great even if I just let it air dry! I highly recommend the Brazilian Blowout, I have never been more pleased with my hair than I am now. Thank You Aiyu Hair Design, you’re THE BEST!!!
