AAMCO Transmissions

I was referred to this location by a mechanic at my local garage when my trans mission fluid started leaking after I hit something. and I have to wonder why.
I dropped my car off and a nice guy named Cliff greeted me and said he would give me a call when he determined what was wrong. About an hour or so later Cliff called me and told me he could not determine the cause of the leak so he would have to take the transmission out and look at it which would cost about $ 675.00. What?! I had him verify that this did NOT include the cost of fixing the transmission, just taking it out.
He then stated that there is no way an axle seal could leak like that. Considering I did not say anything about an axle seal I figured he looked at it. I asked if he tried changing the axel seal and Cliff stated that he wouldn’t touch it because again he said «There is no way an axle seal could leak like that and that it must be a crack in the transmission or something.» I explained to him that it doesn’t make sense because the leak started when something hit it on the outside and it drives fine as long as I pour an endless stream of transmission fluid in it. Cliff stood his ground so I knew at this point that this guy was trying to take advantage. I picked up my leaky car and stopped at the transmission garage I spotted on the way out across the street.
While I stood there the also nice gentleman from this other garage showed me a hole in the external cover of my transmission. Not inside. The hole was right next to the axle seal where Cliff probably saw it which is why he kept mentioning an axle seal. Do not go to this garage. They were about to charge me $ 675 for nothing and then who knows what he would have charged to actually fix the problem. There two possibilities here; either this guy is completely inept at his job or he knew what was wrong and was simply trying to screw me over. DO NOT go to this AAMCO unless you have money to burn.
By the way my car runs like a champ and I paid the other transmission garage $ 350.00 to fix it labor and all.
