Only got to get one jump in, but it was a blast! This DZ is fun for experienced jumpers and tandems alike. I took my buddy for his first tandem, and he was STOKED! As a licensed skydiver, I felt at home and comfortable with the DZ and huge landing area, plus they have 3 planes to get you up! If you’re jumping tandem, snag the extra jump for $ 119! You’ll be stoked you did, especially if their King Air is running loads at 12 minutes to altitude. Blue skies!

No words to describe this experience. Chuck was the best. I was nervous and almost had a panic attack but he calmed me down and we managed to jump. Peanut was my boyfriends instructor and he was just as cool. It was a very exhilarating experience and we will set be back. I recommend going at 6 am. Not only do you get a discount but the sunrise was breathtaking.

There are a few times in life when I am speechless this was one of those. There is no way to describe this incredible experience, but I will do it again. This was a gift for my daughter’s 18th birthday, and so I excepted it as a Father’s Day as well. The staff was amazing and the service and instruction was awesome.

As a licensed sport jumper and with experience at over 7 different drop zones… Skydive Carolina has it all. Friendly people, super nice equipment, well maintained facility, and lots of helpful people around every corner. I would recommend this drop zone for any first timer or experience jumper in all of North Carolina and South Carolina. Huge thanks to Derrick who keeps the gears of the organization crankin! Blue skies!

Signed up for a tandem jump on Living Social close to a year ago [Didn’t really realize what I was getting into until it was time to use it] Skydiving was on my bucket list and something I wanted to do to prove to myself I can get over the fear. The folks at Skydive Carolina are super nice and keep it fun and relaxed. There is a lot of waiting involved, which is probably a good thing since it gives you enough time to fully think about what you are about to do. We actually attempted to jump on Mother’s Day, but got rained out and made another reservation to jump on Father’s Day. It was a group of 7 of us so those were the only dates we could come to a consensus about in our schedules. Since the Living Social Coupon knocked the price of the tandem jump down by 50%, I opted to get the picture and video package which is over $ 100, but well worth it if you are only going to do it once. The money pays for your videographer, to hang out the side of the airplane and catch your jump, your freefall, and your landing. It’s pretty awesome… they also do a pre and post jump interview. I’m really glad I sprung for the video because now I have a little 5min video that will forever make me smile. Just remembering that adrenaline rush and the ride… also I still have the feeling, «Did I really just do that?» but the video and pictures really are a great way to document a great experience… a great milestone in my life. My instructor I jumped with was Chuck Hammond and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor, he was very knowledgeable but kept it fun at the same time. I pretty much just jumps in his t-shirt and cargo shorts… some of the other instructors suit up in jumpsuits, but Chuck keeps it casual.

My first visit to Skydive Carolina was in October 2006. I had Skydiving on my list for a long time and as my wife and I were talking the child talk I thought I better get on it. Of course being who I am, to heck with a tandem, if I’m going to do this, I am going to do this. So I signed up for the free fall program and was trained to do my first jump. Unfortunately Fall/Winter is a dicey time to jump because of mother nature. It wasn’t until December when the weather finally co-operated and I got my first leap into the open air. It was magnificent. Five years later and I’m still jumping, once a week if I’m allowed, every other week if the world is just too zany. I consider it my cheap psychologist visit. I can do high performance free fall executions in the air, deploy my parachute and see Charlotte to the north and the Carolina foothills to the west. Scream and laugh my head off. It feels wonderful. It all wouldn’t be possible without a facility that has some great people at it. You are only as good as your team and Danny & James pull it together with the help of a myriad of wonderful instructors, photographers, and fun jumpers. If you’re looking for an experience unlike any other, one that you’ll want to do again just to make sure you got it all in – you’ll want to visit Skydive Carolina for a small step to a 2 mile fall. Just remember to smile and breath. You’ll do just fine.

The instructors are awesome and the rest of the staff was all super friendly. Went in a group of 4 arriving at 9am and was on the ground and reliving the experience for the rest of the day by 11 am. The crew seemed to know who they could and who they shouldn’t taunt and how to tailor to each individual’s expectations just right. I highly recommend jumping with this facility because they’re just great and will make you wanna go right back up. BTW, when you hear«We need volunteers to shag a tandem» they just mean to ride down with you ;-)

I decided to «take the plunge» on skydiving when Skydive Carolina offered a Groupon for half off a tandem jump. I jumped on a partly cloudy Saturday with Gene, my instructor. Gene was personable and attentive to my concerns prior to the jump. During the flight to 14,000 feet, he must have inspected all of our connecting components a dozen or more times. This really made me feel safer about jumping out of a plane at free fall speeds towards Earth. Falling through the clouds was probably my favorite part of the experience. Shortly thereafter, Gene deployed our parachute. Falling slowly from a high elevation, I had a clear view of Crowder’s Mountain and the uptown Charlotte skyline. If Groupon features another opportunity to buy a tandem jump at 50% off, I will take it. I will also likely request Gene again.

We arrived at 4 and sat around waiting for 2 hours before training or anything happened. Much of the excited anticipation for the jump dissipated in this time. Fortunately the dive instructors are awesome and jumping out of a plane is pretty sweet so overall it was a great experience. Just be prepared to spend at least 4 hours there and you’ll be alright, as long as your chute opens.

I’m not what you would call a typical daredevil or thrill-seeker. I’ve done plenty of stupid things, usually involving alcohol and/or probably some girl I was trying to impress at the time, but I’m a fairly conservative person overall when it comes to activities that could potentially cause serious bodily harm. As a result, skydiving was always in the category of «something that sounds cool but I probably won’t do.» When my younger sister’s birthday came around, she wanted to skydive. She had a few friends on-board with the idea, so I reluctantly had to give in when she asked me as well. I couldn’t let my younger sister call me out! She found Skydive Carolina, got a group rate, and off we went. And I’m glad I did it. Located at an old airfield and hangar roughly 35 minutes south of Charlotte, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane was a blast. It was a tandem jump of course, with an instructor strapped to your back. Upon arriving, we realized the power was out to the main office(a double-wide trailer), which hampered the payment process and slowed things down a bit. Also, being summertime, air-conditioning wasn’t available as they sat us first-timers in a small room to go over safety measures. Then, we waited. A basketball goal and some football tossing occupy our minds as other groups left and slowly floated back to earth. When it was our turn, we made our way to the hangar, heaved ourself into these grey, blue and pink jumpsuits, had harnesses tightened in places you don’t want harnesses too snug, and waited for the plane that would take us to 14,000 feet. Also about this time, if you decide to have your jump documented on video, a videographer starts buzzing around you and your friends asking you questions and sticking a camera in your face to get everything. Surprisingly I never got supernervous, probably because I was conscious of projecting a cool exterior for my sister and her friends. The main thing I remember before the actual jump, as the plane climbed up into the clouds, was how refreshing the air feels at 14,000 feet. They tell you that the freefall portion of the jump lasts for a full 60 seconds. If so, that is the fastest 60 seconds I have ever experienced, and I’m not talking about the 120 mph you are moving. I spent most of the time figuring out how to breathe while falling at that rate, which was to face straight down and take in gulps of air. The problem is the crazy videographer, falling with you about 5 feet away, keeps wanting you to look at him and the camera! I was also amazed at how fast the atmosphere warms as you fall towards earth… its literally like jumping into a fire. When it comes time to pull the ripcord and open the ‘chute, that previously mentioned supersnug harness becomes downright uncomfortable as you are yanked into a much slower descent. After circling around the airfield, and trying not to get nauseous from the turning, for 5 minutes, we finally touched down. Needless to say, I enjoyed my trip and would gladly go again, were it not for the relatively high price. It’s $ 199 during the week and around $ 209 for weekend trips, not including video, which is a necessity for first-timers. You’ll want one, but you may not want to show it to everyone. It seems you make some pretty weird faces while falling at 120 mph! Discounts are offered for groups of 6 – 10 and 11 or more. Aside from the actual experience of pushing yourself out of a moving airplane, which is a rush wherever you do it, I thoroughly enjoyed Skydive Carolina. The staff, and my jump partner, were a very friendly, professional and well-oiled machine. That things managed to run so smoothly despite the power outage, which was restored in the afternoon, is a testament to their knowledge of their own operation.
