I absolutely love friendlys ice cream. However I absolutely hate walking in and have not one staff member look at you. Or they look at you and walk right by you and have you stand there for like 10 minutes not knowing if you’re going to be seated. And when they tell you that you’re going to have to wait a few minutes and watch them eat ice cream behind the ice cream bar.

Waitress did a great job for how busy they were but the rest of the staff. Oy vey! No one even acknowledges you when you enter. After 10 mins we left and decided to come back later. Food is eh… I mean it’s a friendlys what do you expect. I’ve cream was on point as always. Cleanliness is HORRIBLE. Dirty floors every where, sticky tables and booths. Guy at the table next to use only ate his half his sandwich and got it for free cuz he found a hair in it. Ice cream yes. Food no. But owner… Do you EVER look at these reviews? Your customers are spelling it out for you in five simple letters. DIRTY. Even the severers shirts were disgusting. Shame on you for having such a great location and restaurant and treating it with such disrespect.

Too bad you can’t give them a zero star rating… then maybe people would stop going there and they could shut down the place for a couple months and get their act together. Since Friendly’s filed bankruptcy, this is the only location near this area (next is Nashua) and there are so many families in Chelmsford and the surrounding towns. Instead of closing down to remodel and add more/​better seating and improve their help, they closed down to add those stupid video stations at each table. I don’t get it, this place could be a serious goldmine if someone just took the time to make it better!

The Chelmsford Friendly’s is one to avoid. My husband and I brought our daughter here separately and each of us noted the unusually slow service and dirty atmosphere. Paired with employees who seem to be hanging around, waiting 30 minutes for a grilled cheese gets a tad annoying.
Recently we tried the Friendly’s in Nashua. The tidy atmosphere and attentive service reminded me of the Friendly’s my family frequented when I was a kid. I should head on over to their Unilocal page and give them a 4-​star review. I’m not sure what would constitute a 5-​star review for a Friendly’s…

Serviceable as far as food goes but very slow service. It’s not the Friendly’s of my youth, that’s for sure. The servers are pleasant but overburdened.

My two friends and I came for an early dinner. We arrived around 5. It took close to two hours all together between us getting our seats, food, and ordering our ice cream. It took about 40 minutes between each time of the waitress coming to check.

Took my kids here for dinner tonight and honestly wasn’t that impressed. It’s been going down steadily over the last few years. Three of our meals came out together but my oldest’s didn’t come for ten more minutes. Poor kid pretty much ate alone as being on a time crunch I couldn’t keep the others waiting. Food was les then mediocre for the price and I was surprised to find that selecting waffle fries when asked by the waitress actually cost an addition $ 1.
The waitress was nice enough but just a word of advice. Wear a turtleneck or use some cover up. Not everyone wants to know you got lucky last night

Went here with my mother on 7÷29÷15 as we were disappointed the Tewksbury location closed. When we walked in 5 employees made eye contact but walked right by us without even a hello.
About 5 minutes later a very grumpy old lady walked over, mumbled, looked at a table, and then said «let me look out back». She then motioned for us to follow her.
It only got worse! When we got to our booth, the seat had soda all over it, and we asked if she would mind wiping it down. She begrudgingly walked away, returned a couple of minutes later, wiped it down, said nothing, and left. The waitress did not approach us for another 5 minutes — although she too walked by us multiple times.
Between the service and the new lack of ice cream flavors, Friendly’s will need to improve to drastically to avoid shutting down the remainder of locations. Just sad, as this was once a great childhood memory of mine.

I live in chelmsford. Therefore when I go for ice cream I prefer friendlys. I was there recently and I like the pineapple topping, but they no longer carry it. They did this before so I didn’t go anymore I guess I will be going to kimballs. Also this friendlys needs to be cleAned. It always looks dirty.

I mean… it’s Friendly’s, so my expectations were not high to begin with.
I walked in and was not greeted. After a couple minutes, a waitress shouted over to me that she would clean off a table for me. Interesting, because there were two tables already set right in front of us. We were ignored for another few minutes while they socialized. Finally, someone brought us to a table– and had us cut through the kitchen, which is in the middle of the restaurant. Uh, okay.
The floor, table, and seats were filthy. I would have walked out if I had not already promised my daughter ice cream. I guess all that time waiting wasn’t for a clean table after all.
Service and food were typical for Friendly’s: bad. The ice cream was the only decent part of the visit.
Worst Friendly’s I’ve ever been to. They need to clean it up if they want to keep this location in business.

Had breakfast here and was disappointed. Long wait for food, more than 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes. When it arrived, saw that they made my omelette with regular eggs, rather than the cholesterol free «eggbeaters» that I ordered. Also omelette was quite small and tough, perhaps overcooked? Also has to return my first cup of tea, since it arrived lukewarm, and was barely steeping the teabag. My companions pancakes were good, no problems there. The servers never came by after delivering the food, until a bunch of new people came, and then they delivered our check, perhaps because the needed more empty tables. Not quite the Sunday breakfast out I was hoping for…

I usually don’t complain about to many things but this was horrible it is dirty, terrible service it took half hour just to place our order then another 45 mins to get our order and when the food arrived it was cold. My daughter actually had to get up and find out waitress because she never came to check on us when I told the waitress the food was cold she did apologize and said she would get the manager which took another 15 mins for the manager to come over when she did all she offered was free ice cream. At this point me and my kids were so tired I said fine we placed the ice cream order and that took another 20 mins to get I will never go here again. I am so unhappy with this location which is upsetting because for the most part I like Friendly’s.

We come here twice a month they have recently redone the restaurant, but the tables are stained, so they should be replaced as well, the food is, good the management is wonderful, and everyone is almost always happy!

I only gave 3 stars here because you cannot beat the value of food especially for kids. However the cleanliness is questionable at best. My 2 year old needed the bathroom and it was nasty. If that’s any indication what the kitchen looks like I wouldn’t be happy. Otherwise we left happy.

Walked in and it smelled like B.O. Waitress was very friendly. Ordered the fish and chips. I could’ve got the fish at market basket for $ 2.99 (6 pieces). You could obviously tell that the fish was frozen. The fries were okay. We also ordered the munchies combo. The buffalo wings tasted gross. Straight up horrendous.

i have a soft spot in my heart for friendly’s. old fashioned diner food + ice cream for dessert, what’s not to love?
i’ve noticed that their menu has «modernized» since my childhood. eg — no more liver as an entrée. new menu seems mostly sandwiches and burgers. still has my go-​to item, however — the tuna supermelt. ice cream sundaes are still fantastic.

This was the Friendly’s that we went to all the time during my childhood. It’s a classic, and pretty much the best ever. :) The mozzarella sticks and the chicken tender meal were some of my favorites, and the ice cream is great too. I really like the location of this Friendly’s in Chelmsford — easy access.

Review is more for a product than for the Friendly’s itself.
Random fact: Yesterday (5÷7÷11) was National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, so the KitchenDaily editors decided to put 14 different brands of chocolate ice cream to the taste test to determine who makes the best. As a lover of choc ice cream, I couldn’t resist trying the #1 pick: Friendly’s Classic Chocolate. OMG. Excellent texture, flavor, color. Bought the pint so I’d have more for later on.
Random happening: When I paid $ 3.75 or so for a hand-​packed pint, the cashier reached into her pocket and pulled out a 3×3 inch cloth change purse. She reached in, gave me change for the $ 20 and put the little purse back into her pocket. Is a change purse the new cash register? Don’t know, but it was weird. She was standing in front of the register but the drawer never opened.
4 stars for the product. I’ll still give 3 stars, however.
