Kenji is awesome! The creamy salmon roll is the best I have ever had anywhere! Popcorn crabs are addictive. Black snapper, sweet shrimp and live uni are the high lights. It does take long to get your sushi but it’s worth the wait. They offer a golden color premium soju that is outstanding and it’s good for four people or they’ll save it for you for the next time. Overall great«boutiquey» sushi. Good service!

Absolutely amazing sushi. This sushi is just so much better than any other place I’ve been(so much so that I finally decided to write my first review). From the first bite you can instantly taste the quality of fish and ingredients. The rolls are not huge and it’s not the cheapest sushi you can buy but you pay for the incredible taste and atmosphere in this little restaurant. I’ve been eating sushi my whole life and this place just wow’d me. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Although I can’t testify as how good the sushi was since this was my first time eating it, and yes I know how am I this old and never had sushi. I will say for something I never thought I would eat or try, it was good. Perfect little place, not to crowed yet great atmosphere. They were very helpful making sure we had what we needed great service! kept our beers cold and full and even took the time to explain some of the history behind saki. We got about 10 Sushmi’s, and at least 10 – 15 rolls, sorry I can’t tell you what kind I did not know. =) but all of that and about 4 beers and a small saki, we walked out for about $ 210.00. Hope this helps a bit. Enjoy!

1. Nice service. 2. Very small rolls. 3. Expect to spend $ 50 lunch(2 people) and leave hungry. 4. I do NOT recommend this place to anybody.

I’m not sure why I didn’t update my review earlier… well, that’s a lie. I know exactly why — because I’m lazy. Anyway, I read some other reviews and was surprised to see that some people think that this sushi is no better than any olé’ mediocre sushi. I beg to differ. If you can’t tell that this sushi is better than a place like Kabuki or Sushiya — then… perhaps you just can’t tell the difference? Which then makes me think — what the hell are you doing putting up these reviews? Décor isn’t what makes sushi great — its the sushi chef and the freshness of the actual fish. My point is — if you know good sushi — then you’ll probably love this place. If you don’t or if you’re the type of person that can’t really tell the difference, well then maybe this place isn’t for you. Compared to other places of its caliber(i.e. Brothers, Omino, Koi, etc) this is the most reasonably priced with the most diverse of options. However, this is also the most homely. Meaning, when you walk in, maybe you might look at the décor and be expecting fast food prices. So to conclude — if you go to sushi restaurants because you like the ambience and all you order are California rolls anyway — then to you, this place will probably be overpriced. If you’re into quality fish and Japanese cuisine — don’t run, SPRINT to Sushi USA now. Yesterday even. And tell Kenji-san what you want. …or you know, tell the nice waitresses what you want if you’re not eating at the sushi bar.

Haven’t been here in a couple years, but while I was residing for many years in this area, I would frequent USA many times. Many. All staff(Sushi Chefs, wait, servers, etc) are always genuinely happy to see you and have beaming smiles. Dine-in is doable — not a lot of tables available, but you can always belly-up to the sushi bar too for a more interactive and engaging experience. Plus they have«Lucky Cat» adorned in their restaurant too which I’m convinced gave me such luck to land a huge job before an interview… I’ve never had sushi that seemed«tired» or just«a hair past it’s shelf-life». Ever. This is why I gave this place SOOO much business. Quality was excellent, and I *LOVED* that they would always serve my Salmon sashimi(Sake) with paper-thin onions and lemon wedges. Do you ppl even KNOW how good those are together?!? Oh my gosh. They also do creative and unique cut rolls, if you fancy, and hand-rolls are popular(think Spicy Tuna ‘ice cream cone’).

Hands down Best sushi in the 818. Fish is always top quality. Kenji is a culinary artist. I can’t go more than a week without their incredible yellowtail & crunchy rolls. Mmmmm! I love this place!

Good sushi little pricey but you get what you pay for. Only thing that sucks is the place is small and takes a while to get served. But the sushi is really good!

LOVELOVELOVESUSHIUSA! I’ve been going to Sushi USA for years and have never had a less than perfect experience! The sushi is fresh and Kenji and his staff are warm and inviting — what more does one need? The only downside is that on a busy evening, the wait for your food can be extremely long!

Kenji-san is a genius. I arrived a few minutes before closing. Kenny and company were gracious and welcomed me wholeheartedly. The sushi-ya is small, clean, and in excellent repair. You can sit at tables or bar. The bar has the ubiquitous refrigerated fish in plain view. And it looked great. The sushi specials are behind the bar on a grease board. The non-sushi specials are in the main area. The waitress provided the sushi menu, order form, and pen. She asked what I wanted to drink. They have Sapporo and Asahi beers, and Sho Chiku Bai sake. The spicy scallop hand roll was excellent. The red snapper was superior. The maguro was phenomenal. The spicy shrimp tempura roll was hot and fresh. I asked what he recommended. Instantly, he replied, «black snapper.» It was amazing. He said to eat it with neither soy sauce nor wasabi. He was correct. It was almost indescribable. I wanted one last nigiri. «You eat anything?» «Yes!» He broiled scallops using a hand torch. Oh. Wow. I didn’t realize it until about halfway through: Kenji-san prepared the next delicacy when I finished the current. Nice touch! When I noticed the non-sushi menu, I ordered tonkatsu to go. Later, when I tasted, Kenji-San serves the best tonkatsu this side of the Pacific. It’s a little expensive, but it’s worth it.

USASUSHI! Omg! The best sushi I’ve ever had to date in the valley. You have to try Japanese ceviche. Owner, chef and the servers are the best! Celebrate your event with a bottle of iichiko!

My husband and I love this place so much, we actually feel like we’re cheating on it if we go anywhere else. The first time I went to Sushi USA I was surprised at the great reviews because it was a small, almost a sushi diner type set up, so I see why there are some bad reviews. Being the daughter of a food critic, I would’ve taken off one star for ambiance, however, it did not take me long to realize the ambiance is not created by the chairs here. It’s the people. It’s Kenji. Kenji is hands down the best Sushi Chef in the Valley. You come here to watch a master work and chat it up with the locals. If you’ve ever seen«Jiro Dreams of Sushi» on Netflix, you’ll understand why I think the Chef is the ambiance. Kenji definitely has a style, which means you may need to try a couple rolls before you find that«magic» you look for in sushi. For me, I had to try Sushi USA twice to truly appreciate Kenji’s style. This isn’t the place you go to for a California Roll-which is what I tried the first time I went there. To me, their California roll is heavy on the mayonnaise-not good for this California born-and-bred girl! Every piece of fish we’ve ever had there is very fresh, melt-in-your-mouth, yet unpretentious. Our favorites are: The Nick Roll, The David Roll, and The Kobe Roll. We think Kenji’s specialty sauces are his garlic sauce and his spicy sauce. I don’t generally like spicy, but Kenji’s rolls changed that. They have a «specials» board with items that sell out quick(get there before the dinner rush). My favorite«special» is the grilled abalone in the shell with butter, but be prepared-it’s the meat in the shell, so… about 2 bites if you don’t savor it. If you are price conscious, don’t order off the specials menu. From what I’ve ordered, they are appetizer-sized. A customer told me his family’s favorite special item was the Uni Shooter, which I tried. It’s an acquired taste, but a fun experience since it’s an authentic specialty. There is also a lunch board with even more authentic dishes. I’ve read the reviews about this place being pricey, which is true, but I would not want to pay any less knowing that the fish I am getting is fresh and prepared with delicacy. I have gone there with my mom and eaten for $ 50. We did not buy drinks, we ordered the special rolls, and split everything. When I eat with my husband, we almost always get drinks and the bill is closer to $ 70 – 80. But we leave with the pleasure of our bellies filled. If you are expecting a California-American Sushi experience, I do not recommend this place for you. If you are looking for an authentic, fresh, and consistent atmosphere, you will not find a place like this anywhere in Los Angeles.

RIPOFF. Never in my life have I paid $ 30 for 6 pieces of sushi. This was the worst! I ordered two rolls which were each $ 13 a piece and each only brought 3 pieces brought out on one tiny plate. I would never go back. DONOTRECOMEND. ITWASTHEWORSTLUNCHEVER.

I was looking for a local sushi place because my regular place is across the valley… 1st time here and this is my new local spot! They have good verity and everything I had was delicious! From sushi to Japanese curry to bento boxes! Service: great everyone was really nice and attentive! Ambiance: clean small local sushi place. Nothing really fancy. Food: delicious, not the best sushi I have had but I would come back because it was all pretty yummy! And they have other stuff like curry! Price: not too bad, it’s sushi so it’s never really cheap for good quality. About $ 62 for me and my hubby.

First time here. I ordered their Tempura Undon Lunch Noodles, they came with a side of 4 California rolls. Everything was delicious! Great service, the waitress was a sweetheart. I give it a 3star because I’ve only tried these two items. I will definitely come back and try some more!!! :)
