Love, LOVE this place. Awesome sandwiches. The NJ style sloppy joe is always a winner as are their club sandwiches. They also have amazing homemade ravioli and pasta. The crab and lobster ravioli are my favorites. Tons of bottled and canned drinks and a load of Italian staples. I just wished they delivered!

I had never had a Taylor ham and egg sandwich in my life until my roommate at rehab had one delivered. That was the best breakfast I ever had. The deli appears to be a landmark in Morris County.

My all time favorite sloppy joes!!! The guys who work here are super nice and fast too– always a plus! When ever we have guests in town I pick up a couple to keep in the fridge!

We recently moved here and this charming family owned deli was our first experience w NJ. First of all the service is extraordinary. Every time I go in the owner & other employees greet their customers by name. They are very attentive and polite. Now the food is even better. So far we’ve tried the sloppy joe, BBQ pork panini, spinach salad, kale salad, chicken noodle soup and rice pudding. Everything is amazing– especially the pudding. I’ve also started buying my deli meat and rolls/French bread here. This is our favorite place to bring friends when they visit. It may be small(only outdoor seating) but well worth it.

As far as delis go and made-to-order sandwiches are concerned, this place is amazing! They also have a healthy amount of home made specialties that are worth a try. Great place for lunch!

I used to love this place but lately they’ve been very disappointing. The last two turkey joes I’ve ordered have been made incorrectly. I don’t know what happened to this place but I think I’m going to have to go somewhere else next time.

Every sandwich I’ve had from Hickory Tree is first rate. Great selection, great flexibility with ingredients. Their Cubano is excellent and so is the house special roast beef sandwich. Really good homemade potato salad too!

I wish there was a 31⁄3 stars… Sandwiches are good, food tastes fresh. Long lines aren’t a bad thing; it just means a lot of people like it there so I take that to be a good thing. Workers are friendly but not overly so. They have chips and plenty of drinks, fresh pickles and deli salads. Also a small grocery-like section with some specialties. Extensive menu of basic and special sandwiches. 3 stars for two reasons. There is only one option for sandwich sizes. Younger kids don’t eat a large sandwich(actually neither do I for lunch) but I am forced to buy a large $ 7.00+ sandwich for them which isn’t cost-effective for families. Also a star taken off for their gluten free options. They are trying which is great to see and I thought it might be a good alternative to the other gluten free deli in town, but it’s not. They only have gluten free bagels(which did not look good) and white bread; so my sandwich was tiny and basically fell apart with one bite and I had to use a fork to eat it. Gluten free white bread can’t support a deli sandwich, so I’m back to the other deli. So to sum it up, decent fresh sandwiches that are large but expensive, with poorly executed gluten free options. Long lines. With many different delis in town you’d have to try it to see if this is the best option for you.

The sandwiches are great, but I have to say they are definitely overpriced. I got a hard roll with ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, and it was 13 dollars. Pretty ridiculous, even for Chatham.

Down home kinda deli — looks like a family-run establishment, long lines and a huge menu indicate this place has been around awhile. I ordered the turkey bone that came with cranberry sauce and added brie and lettuce to my order… the lettuce was shredded just the way I like on a whole wheat roll. Generous portions, fresh roasted turkey. I wish I had this place in my town. Would definitely go back.

One of the best delis in the Morris County area. I drive here from Morristown every so often because this place trumps anything in that town. The Triple C or the avocado BLT are no joke. Huge menu of high quality sandwiches.

Kinda like going to Soup Nazi at lunchtime, hits the spot for old school deli sandwiches. May seem basic, but I love the BLT. This is my new go-to for lunch when I’m in the area.

Sloppy Joes and Pints o’ marinara sauce to go! Awesome sandwiches and soups. This local Italian deli has been around for a while now, and it’s a mainstay for the neighborhood. The frozen section is great too, with different meals in different sizes all ready to go. Definitely try the Sloppy Joes if you haven’t before… you won’t regret it!

This place is straight up legendary. At lot of Jersey spots will claim to have the best sloppy joe(cold cut style, not Manwich), but Hickory Tree no question has it on lock. They’ve got roast beef, ham and turkey joes pre-made and ready to go. Here’s a little trick… If you want a fresh one, just ask for a joe with one of the aforementioned meats, but request provolone cheese(the pre-made ones have swiss). Now don’t get me wrong, the pre-mades are bomb, the sometimes you just want a freshy. The Russian dressing and Rye bread is great, and the cold cuts and cheeses are fresh as can be, but the thing that really separates Hickory Tree’s joes from all the other joes out there is the coleslaw. It’s literally the best on Earth. Hickory also had amazing T-ham, egg & cheeses, and ridiculously good frozen Italian dinners. 5 star!

Well if you read my reviews then you know I’m a sucker for a sandwich. When people ask me my last meal, I say it’s a tie between a fat ass burrito smothered in Hatch’s green chile and a fat ass sandwich smothered in cheese and anything else that a sandwich can have on it. Enter in Hickory Tree. My man’s hometown deli. His mom used to buys us these all the time, till we had to have a little sit down and I explained that sloppy joes don’t do wonders for my waist line. Sometimes you have to splurge. Enter in this Italianesque pantry convenience store. With pastas, dinners, and some dry/canned/packaged goods that you can pick up while you are at the deli. Enter this fantastic deli filled with meats, cheeses, homemade salads, slaws and gdknowswhatelse. I order the Hickory burrito with turkey bacon(twas bfast time). Whole wheat wrap, egg whites, smothered in the melty cheddar cheese that was just everywhere with of course the added turkey bacon. Amazing. The boys I were with thoroughly enjoyed their t-ham and egg sandwiches. Well now, let us talk about lunch that day. We took home a Joe with us. Ham, swiss, russian dressing and slaw on rye. It was huge, cut into three(thank you for that) and was amazing. It was dressed perfectly for our lunch date. Fully clothed with the mayoey dressing with extra left on the parchment paper to scrap up with the sandwich but, not so much where it was all dressing. You can tell this is a family joint too which is always nice. I like it when my man says he knows the dude makin’ my sammy and that we are supportin’ him. So, Steph, why not the five star review? Well, I’m no sloppy Joe connoisseur. I need to sample what else they got before I potentially up this rating.

best sloppy joe available in new jersey hands down. excellently rare roast beef, and a stupid amount of russian. after soaking in the fridge for the pre-requisite 20 min minimum(if you’re unlucky enough to not score a pre-made one), its easily one of the best sandwiches you’ll ever have. they also offer great«weekly special» sandwiches, where they take one of their specialty sandwiches and offer it at a reduced price all week. all the subs here are excellent. nothing too fancy, but its a great classic deli. style points for having joe’s tea.

If you’re reading this, and you think a Sloppy Joe is some Manwich concoction with ground beef and generic red sauce on a hamburger bun, get yourself to Jersey, NOW. A real Sloppy Joe is none of these things. A Jersey Sloppy Joe is a triple decker sandwich with deli meat, swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing on rye. It is awesome, and the best around this part of the state is at Hickory Tree. I’ve been coming here for a very long time. Back in my caddying days during the summer in high school and college we would often stop here for breakfast. Not only are they home to the best sloppy joes anywhere, but this is also where I was introduced to the wonder that is the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. Now I usually only make it over here for lunch every now and then. But when I do, there is only one option, the Turkey Joe. They pre-make the sandwiches in the morning because so many people order them and they take some additional time to make. If you haven’t been here before, do not worry about this. I can’t explain it but I think the sandwich is even better when it sits in the fridge for a while. Also, side note, this is the best cole slaw I have ever had. If nothing else, come to this deli for the cole slaw. If for some strange reason you mouth is not already drooling over the sloppy joe, show up anyway. Their deli is great and they have a large selection of pre-made Italian dinners as well. After writing all this, I need a turkey joe. Maybe for lunch tomorrow.

This is definitely one of the better delis in Chatham, if not in the surrounding area. It can be a bit pricey at times but as they say«you get what you pay for». All the food is great with a nice variety of soups each day. The breakfast sandwiches are very good on the large rolls and I recommend including the thick slices of taylor ham to your egg and cheese. But I think their best sandwiches are the pre-made turkey joe’s which are served on three pieces of rye bread and packed with turkey, russian, dressing, and cole slaw. In addition to the quality of food, the quality of service is very high as well. They always have the right number of people working based on the time of day, even during the lunch time rush you can be in and out of there in about 5 minutes. Due to the great food and friendly service I highly recommend this deli as one of the best in the area.
