Scott Stadium is pretty standard college stadium. They offer more of a selection of food other than your standard stadium nachos and hot dogs. They have ATMs located inside because many concession stands only take cash. The best part about Scott Stadium is that the student section is the grassy hill behind the end zone, which gives you great views of the game. Many people tailgate outside in the surrounding parking lot and checking out a UVa is always a fun fall thing to do a on a Saturday.

My son and I traveled from out of town to attend our first UVA game. It would be my 10 years olds first collegiate football game. So we were very excited and had high expectations of the visit. Parking is very limited, but many parking garages are located within a ten minute, or so walk… so no big deal. The outside of the stadium is appealing with it’s brick exterior and open sided area on one of the end zone. In this area they have grass and columns fitting for the area which is unique. I really enjoyed looking at something other than rows and rows of aluminum seating. The restrooms are plentiful and at the beginning of the game well kept. That deteriorated more and more as the game went on. Many vendors with lots of options on food, drinks and other options such as flavored ice. Prices are about what you would expect from these type of venues, expensive. The seating is bench with not backing, but you can rent seats that attach with cushions and a backing… however I am unsure of pricing. From our area of looking at the field the artificial turf appeared well maintained and the field marking were easy to see. If it were not for the huge issue with trash cans in the lobby over flowing this review would be a 4. However, what I witnessed was very diligent fans picking up after themselves and trying to throw trash away. However, all through the game it just piled up and never got emptied which was unacceptable to me. Hopefully when we come back this will be rectified. UVA fans were really awesome and courteous.

Wahoowa! As far as peer stadiums go, around the ACC and across college football, things don’t get much nicer aesthetically than Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. Located right on Central Grounds(around first-year dorms), the stadium fits the Jeffersonian architecture found all over UVA. Note that the field is below ground level — after entering, fans in the lower bowl will descend, which is a pretty cool look and sets up as the famous«Hill»(about half of the student section — frat bros go here, football fans sit in the stands). Atmosphere-wise, the Stadium has its ups and downs. Because of the flat slope of the stands, the building is automatically less imposing. And, because of the recent play of the Hoos, attendance has been sliding from historical standards. But, when push comes to shove(and especially in big games), Hoo fans can and do get loud. Arrive at games 20 minutes before kickoff to catch the Cavalier Marching Band’s pregame performance, followed by «The Adventures of Cavman,» just before the players take the field. The best seats in the house are not the first few rows on the sidelines, which have an obstructed view by the players on the sideline — you’ll want to be ~5−10 rows back. Students, same deal, best spots are probably section 103, 5 – 10 rows back. Food options in the building are solid and at reasonable stadium prices… but the move is truly just to tailgate before the game(lively scenes both in the lots and on the Lawn), then head to the Corner afterwards. Traffic and parking are manageable; despite Cville’s limited access and exit points, the area is cleared quickly after games. Yes, some students do dress up for games — it’s dwindling, but«Guys in ties, Girls in pearls» is still a thing for ~1/3 of students? Personally, wearing anything other than jeans and an orange t-shirt seems ridiculous to me. That said… I’ll allow it if the sundress look can continue as well. Go Hoos
